History of APD

Anderson Porter Design, Inc. (APD) is an architectural firm established in 1994 in Cambridge, MA. The firm has over twenty years of experience with practice area expertise in housing, retail, workplace design, and medical device laboratories. Since 2014, their expertise has excelled within the cannabis industry. They are a coalition of architects, designers, and planners implementing lean design solutions for controlled environment horticulture, food and drug manufacturing facilities, and retail dispensaries, working with clients nationally and internationally to build worldclass facilities. From site planning to ribbon cutting, APD works with first time entrepreneurs and leaders in the cannabis industry to design, engineer, and construct facilities that transform ideas into successful, profitable businesses.

With a background in medical device manufacturing design, APD understands the importance of strict protocols, quality management systems, and current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) required in such facilities. Of fundamental importance to cannabis facilities, APD brings expertise in workflow efficiency with energy-efficient and sustainable building practices. BRIAN ANDERSON

Brian Anderson is a Co-Founder of Anderson Porter Design, leading architecture firm in the cannabis industry. He is a highly experienced architect with a passion for creating innovative and beautiful spaces that work in tandem with complex systems and engineering. He believes that good design is the result of a collaborative process that involves the client, designers, consultants, and contractors. Starting in 2014, Anderson Porter Design has become a leader nationally in the cannabis industry, designing dispensaries, grow facilities, and other related projects. Anderson is an expert in this field, having developed a deep understanding of the unique challenges and needs of the cannabis industry. He is experienced in working with local, state, and federal regulations to ensure that projects are built to the highest standards and compliant with all applicable laws.

Brian Anderson is a visionary leader who has made sustainability a guiding principle in his work. Brian actively promotes ESG, environment, social, and governance, to guide business in making sustainable choices. He understands that every decision has an environmental and social impact, and he actively educates his clients on how they can integrate sustainability into their design and innovation processes. His goal is to create innovative solutions that will pioneer a more sustainable future for the cannabis industry.

Risk mitigation in cannabis facility design is achieved through compliance. Brian helps investors and operators ensure operational safety and economic success through compliance with all applicable regulations. This not only minimizes legal risks, but also increases the potential for long-term success and profitability. With his deep knowledge of industry regulations and best practices, Brian is uniquely positioned to guide his clients through the complex process of designing and operating a cannabis facility to meet federal, state, and local regulations.

Brian D. Anderson has worked in the cannabis space for almost a decade designing upwards of 45 cannabis cultivation facilities and approximately 35 retail stores in 23 states. Brian has a master’s degree from Harvard and a BFA and B.Arch from RISD. He speaks at conferences, webinars, and panels at a national level, addressing sustainability, efficiency, and best practices relative to cannabis facility design. Brian is working with clients in various stages of state approvals process in MA, NJ, NY, ME, NH, CT, CO, OR, AR, OH, OK, MO, MI, MS, VA, WV, PA, UT, AL and FL.
