iaran McLaughlin is no stranger to success. Dubai World Cup? Check. Breeders’ Cup Classic? Check. Belmont Stakes? Check. Whitney, Travers, Woodward? Check, check, check. And these are just few of his many Grade 1s. No, he’s no stranger to success at all, indeed. But McLaughlin grew up in Central Kentucky and has been primarily based on the New York/Florida circuit, and before that in Dubai, so his April 15th feat of training four winners – from just four starters – on one single card at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, with much of his family in attendance, had to be just a little bit extra special to him. McLaughlin joins Bill Mott and Todd Pletcher as the only trainers to make four trips to the Keeneland winner’s circle in one day. The winning quartet – Tasteful, Zennor, Watershed, and Dickinson – were bred in Kentucky by Darley and are owned by Darley’s related entity, Godolphin Racing LLC. What’s more, all are by Darley sires: two by Medaglia d’Oro and one each by Bernardini and the late Street Cry. Tasteful got things rolling in Race 4, a sixand-a-half furlong maiden special weight that she won as she pleased by three-and-
