The TRM Trainer of the Quarter award has been won by Roger Teal. Teal and his team will receive a selection of products from the internationally acclaimed range of TRM supplements as well as a bottle of fine Irish whiskey. Oscar Yeadon s the saying goes, every cloud has a silver lining, and so has proved the case for Lambourn trainer Roger Teal, whose Tip Two Win is now heading for the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket after a lengthy, unconventional but successful juvenile campaign. Rewind to last September, when after finishing a good second to the Hamdan Al Maktoum-owned Elarqam in the Group 3 Somerville Stakes, Teal and Tip Two Win’s owner and breeder, Mrs Anne Cowley,

had their sights set on the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf. “Adam (Kirby), who rode Tip Two Win at Newmarket, persuaded us to enter him in the Breeders’ Cup,” remembers Teal. “Tip Two Win’s not an over-big horse, so we thought he should handle the tight track. However, we missed the cut as there was a huge entry, but Adrian Beaumont, at the International Racing Bureau, suggested a race in late December at Doha, Qatar, so we kept him in training.”
The trip to Doha (a career first for Teal) proved fruitful, with Tip Two Win running on well to land the seven furlong conditions race, which gave Teal food for thought. “He bolted up in that first race, so what next? He had travelled well and handled the track well, as a neat, little horse. He is straightforward and given the way he won, I was keen to step him up to a mile.” Two months later, Tip Two Win won even more impressively in the Group 2 Al Biddah Mile, having been left short of
