ven if you have no experience with Christianity, you have probably heard the word gospel, and you may well have heard that it has something to do with “being saved.” So the gospel is something you listen to and buy into if you want to get saved. Here in twenty-first–century America (my context), the gospel as usually preached and generally understood is essentially a kind of sales pitch, and the product you are encouraged to buy is eternal life.
