t might be near the height of hubris to write a book about the gospel. I am not, however, writing this because I think I have a special revelation. Rather, it seems to me that there is a need to express the character and content of the gospel in an Orthodox Christian way that can be understood by modern English readers and that is not currently available. Over the years, as I have struggled to find a way to express the gospel as part of being a pastor, teacher, and communicator, I knew that I would eventually have to compile these thoughts into a coherent whole. I am not claiming that this book is the only way to present the gospel nor the last word on it. It is, however, my best understanding of it and in many ways represents
