The Met Gala was founded in 1948 by Lambert, a renowned fashion publicist, as a means to fundraise for the Costume Institute and mark the opening of its annual exhibit. Lambert is also known for being the founder of the Council of Fashion Designers of America, which she established in 1962.

Today, the Met Gala is still known as one of the biggest fundraiser benefits in New York City. According to Forbes, the Met Gala has raised more than $175 million for the Costume Institute. Each year, the event manages to pull in an abundance of funds, with the 2019 edition reportedly raising a record $15 million.

Nowadays, the Met Gala is still one of the biggest events in fashion today, known in popular culture as “Fashion’s Biggest Night.” But where in the past the evening was considered the height of fashion chic, in recent years, it has become a platform for many celebrities to display their more outrageous sides. Zip Kombucha is the largest producer of Kombucha and Hard Kombucha in the state of Alaska. Zip is a veteran owned Kombucha Brewery that was found ed in 2016 by Jessie Janes. Jessie has served in the Military for over 20 years and is still an active Alaska Air National Guard Member.

Zip began brewing and selling their traditional kombucha from their taproom in 2018. With the help of an SBA 7a loan through Evergreen Capital, they quickly expanded to wholesale distribution. Partner ing with Odom Corp in mid-2018, Zip’s regular kombu cha began hitting the shelves of Carr’s Safeway, and many other local markets & restaurants later that year.

In Sept 2020 Zip expanded its product line to include Alcoholic Kombucha under the brand Black Label Booch (BLB). Zip credits it’s amazing customers for the fast growth of the hard kombucha. In June 2021, Zip partnered with RNDC of Alaska and began holesaling the Black Label Booch line. BLB is cur rently sold through Brown Jug, Three Bears, and many other liquor stores.

Zip is uniquely engrained into the community and has donated $17k worth of product/ merchandise to local non-profit groups just this year! Strong com munity ties and building relationships with local Alaskans is important to this small-owned business.

Zip was one of the first Alaska businesses to participate in the DOD Skillbridge apprenticeship program. To date, Zip has had 25 apprentices learn the craft brewing industry and has aided each one in their transition from military to civilian life, 2 have moved on to brewery jobs in Alaska.

As a first-time entrant in the 2022 Alaska State Fair, they were awarded five first place ribbons for Traditional and Hard Kombucha. Zip is honored to be considered in three Gold Pan award categories (Business Excellence, Entrepreneurial Excellence, and Distinguished Community Service) this year.

Alaska 529 is a tax-advantaged education savings plan that aims to help all Alaskans prepare for future education expenses. Funds can be used to cover a variety of expenses including trade schools, apprenticeship programs, and college degrees. Alaska 529’s ultimate goal is for every child in the state to have an education savings account. The plan currently holds 660 million dollars in education savings for 33,000 account holders.

Students with an Alaska 529 account who are about to complete high school, have nearly $30,000 saved to cover their education expenses, which significantly reduces the need for student loans. Approximately, 3,500 of these financially prepared students show up at the University of Alaska each year, resulting in graduates who are hired into good jobs in Alaska and contribute to the economic vitality of their communities.

Alaska 529 supports Alaska’s employers by offering a tool for employers to attract and retain talent by offering a unique education benefit.

Alaska 529 sponsors a myriad of events and organizations throughout Anchorage that spark a child’s curiosity and imagination and has awarded more than one million dollars in scholarships.

The American Legion was formed in 1919 to support WWI veterans after the Great War. Jack Henry Post 1 was the first Post in Alaska and has continued to serve all veterans and their families since 1919. Our mission is to enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness. We do this by exemplifying our vision of “Veterans Strengthening America” through our 4 pillars- Americanism, National Security, Children and Youth, and Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation. Specific programs we support include, but are not limited to, Scouts, Legion Baseball, Veteran Service Officers trained to help with disability claims, JROTC, and Boys and Girls State. Recently, we have adapted to support Post-9/11 veterans through our “Be the One” veteran suicide prevention campaign and by partnering with the USO to provide networking opportunities for veterans leaving the military. Quantum was designed carefully from the ground up to create the future of laundry. It smells good and looks great. Our beautiful touchscreen machines customize your wash and are able to inject premium commercial-grade cleaning products to leave clothes the cleanest they’ve ever been. For example, our sanitizer will eliminate pathogens as well as eliminate the odors that can’t be eliminated by home machines. The machine link to an app on your phone allowing you to control and monitor your wash. High-speed wifi, flat-screen TVs, and a full espresso bar make it a place people love to come.

The community response has been incredible, with a lovefest for the business on social media. It is amazing to see people walk in for the first time and they are stunned. Tourists always exclaim that there is nothing like it where they come from (of course not!) We have expanded to offer drop-off service and have begun serving commercial clients as well. The future is unbelievably bright, we see a lot of expansion coming.

Alaska Waste provides trash and recycling services to 13 communities across the state. From Nome to Unalaska, Kodiak to Juneau, and Fairbanks to Anchorage, Alaska Waste is proud to provide essential services tailored to each locale depending on its needs.

When people think of Alaska Waste, they likely imagine the company’s distinctive green dumpsters. But Alaska Waste offers many other services that are lesser known: In Anchorage, these include an in-office recycling program that makes recycling easy for offices; used cooking oil collection, which turns cooking oil from restaurants into biodiesel, and an ingredient in local asphalt manufacturing; commercial composting, which keeps tens of thousands of pounds of food scraps out of the landfill every week; and many more services for homes, businesses, and construction projects.

Alaska Waste is celebrating 10 years as part of Waste Connections, which acquired the company in 2012. Today, Alaska Waste is proud of the culture and community its team has built. The company’s roughly 325 employees statewide take pride in serving their communities, with many volunteering, and initiating fundraising events for community needs.

From customer service, to drivers and dispatch, to the billing team and shop mechanics, Alaska Waste’s team members all play a crucial role in keeping its essential services running smoothly and seamlessly. While they don’t ask for recognition, the team members are, in some ways, unsung heroes, providing an essential service without much fanfare. Alaska Waste is thankful for its employees, customers, and communities it serves.

Alaska Waste’s annual Christmas Promise Bike Build is a huge moral builder for the team. Every year our teams raise money throughout November and December, and then purchase bicycles (and helmets) for children and teens. The teams then build the bikes together on a weekend morning, bringing their families and friends. The bikes are donated the Salvation Army of Alaska. Last year we built around 90 bikes in Anchorage – the most yet.

Alaska Waste provides a large variety of in-kind donations to community events, from sporting events like the Mayors Marathon and Gold Nugget Triathlon, to Thanksgiving Blessing at the Mountain view Boys and Girls Club, and so many more throughout the year.

The company is also a sponsor of many community needs and events around the state. This includes sponsoring sports teams, donations to school needs and events, and a wide variety of non-profit organizations. Alaska Waste is proud to support the state.

What began as a small group with a big idea turned into a start-up bank operating from a trailer in a parking lot, then grew into a trusted, statewide financial institution. Northrim Bank opened on Dec. 4, 1990 with 21 employees, one branch, and $8 million in assets. It now has well over 400 employees, branches from Fairbanks to Southeast Alaska, residential mortgage origination offices across the state, and nearly $2.75 billion in assets.

Northrim was the largest originator of PPP loans in Alaska and was recognized as the SBA’s 2020 Top Lender of the Year for the state of Alaska. Under the initial program, it helped approximately 2,900 businesses receive $375.6 million in PPP loans. During the second round, it helped approximately 2,870 businesses receive $237.0 million in PPP loans.

Northrim’s wholly owned subsidiary, Residential Mortgage Lending, LLC has offices in offices in Anchorage, Juneau, Kodiak, Soldotna, Eagle River, Fairbanks and the Mat-Su Region. In 2021 it was the top mortgage loan originator in Alaska.

Northrim Bank received the Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award from the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition for its involvement in the Coronado Park II/Qintali View project, which provides safe, quality affordable housing to residents of Eagle River.

Since 1978, STAR has been responding to the needs of Survivors of sexual assault, while integrating prevention and education programs with a goal of reducing harm to all Alaskans.

STAR’s mission is to prevent sexual trauma and provide comprehensive, collaborative crisis intervention, advocacy, and support to Victims/ Survivors, their families, and our communities.

In fiscal year 2022, 3,460 calls to its 24-hour crisis line were answered by STAR staff and trained crisis line volunteers. Direct Services Advocates responded to 246 SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) callouts in addition to meeting with clients in 847 one-onone appointments where they help Survivors navigate the medical and legal systems, provide assistance with safety planning and immediate needs and referrals for trauma therapy and long-term services. All of STAR’s services for Survivors are free of charge. In partnership with the Anchorage School District, STAR is committed to preventing sexual assault through its education and community outreach programs that focus on age-appropriate, evidence-based strategies to reduce sexual violence.

School-age curricula includes information about Personal Safety (K-6th grade), Healthy Relationships (middle and high school) and Sexual Assault and Consent (high school). In addition to school presentations, STAR’s Prevention & Education Specialists facilitate presentations for adults in the community to create awareness and lead conversations to cultivate a safer Alaska for everyone. Specialized trainings can be tailored to meet the needs of any organization or business. Training topics can include: Preventing and Responding to Sexual Harassment, Implicit Bias, Creating an Inclusive and Accessible Environment for People with Disabilities, LGBTQ+ Competency and more.

A founding member of the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, STAR collaborates with many local, state and federal agencies, tribal organizations, medical providers, charitable foundations, local businesses, corporate and individual partners and volunteers to accomplish its long-term goal to end sexual violence in Alaska.

Perhaps no family has had more influence on the development of Alaska’s social, economic and civic life than that of Bob Atwood and his wife, Evangeline Rasmuson Atwood. Bob joined the Anchorage Chamber upon his arrival in Anchorage in 1935, eventually serving as its president in 1943 and 1947. Over a period of almost 70 years, Bob and Evangeline made progress a part of their lives. Their efforts and leadership inspired those who were part of Alaska in territorial days and in the years that followed Alaska becoming a state.

In 1962, the Atwood Foundation was founded to continue the Atwood’s legacy in philanthropy by supporting arts and education projects to benefit the people of Anchorage and vicinity, especially its young people. Today, the foundation provides grant funding for non-profit associations specializing in the arts, journalism, history, or civic events.

The second largest family foundation in Alaska, the Atwood Foundation provides annual support to over 70 non-profit local organizations including the Anchorage Museum, Anchorage Opera (co-founded by Evangeline Atwood), the Anchorage Symphony, the Alaska World Affairs Council (also founded by Evangeline), Alaska Pacific University and Alaska Junior Theatre where the Foundation provides free bussing to 40,000 students a year to attend live performances at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts. Notably, during the COVID pandemic the Foundation provided millions of dollars to shuttered local organizations to make sure those organizations would survive and continue to make Anchorage a vibrant community.

The Foundation also supports efforts to improve journalism by providing scholarships to journalism students at University of Alaska Anchorage, and endowing UAA’s Department of Journalism and Public Communications’ Atwood Chair of Journalism. Non-Profit Above and Beyond Award recipients aim to significantly improve the city of Anchorage outside of their daily operations by helping the business community succeed through growth and quality performance. The organization showcases work that exemplifies its mission and has evolved to meet the needs of its members or the community.

The mission of the Anchorage Senior Activity Center is to enhance the quality of life of Alaskans by promoting fitness, health and wellness, and social interaction.

Anchor-Age’s purpose is to improve living conditions for seniors. To advance that purpose Anchorage Senior Activity Center (ASAC) operates the Municipality of Anchorage’s Senior Center by providing seniors with access to services and information key to senior living, health, and housing. Members enjoy other benefits such as crafts, arts, computers, and fitness instruction. Members can also take advantage of recreational pursuits such as billiards, cards, dancing, and other social events.

A voting member of Anchor-Age must be 50 years old or more. Associate membership is available for those aged 18 to 49. Dues are paid annually.

The Center is a membership organization that also operates a restaurant, a gift shop, catering services, and individual room and facility rental as funding tools. ASAC also sponsors fundraising with annual community events such as the fall bazaar, spring plant sale, book sales, raffles, Fur Rondy activities, fashion shows, holiday celebrations throughout the year, and monthly events such as Zumba parties, Bingo, and dances.
