Short Article - The Weeping Willow
By Ashish Kuriyan (age 8)
The Beginning
Once upon a time there lived a weeping willow named Tim who lived in Magical Mountain. Magical Mountain is very weird because it is made out of powerful minerals and rocky stuff. The weeping willow is always weeping because nobody lived on Magical Mountain because it was too hard to climb. The weeping willow was very lonely. He decided to go on a journey across the mountain through the woods and into the grasslands because he did not have any friend and he needed to make some.
The Mountain
Tim traveled across the mountain first. He moved carefully across the mountain because it was very rocky and dusty, and hard to travel. His roots were cut and he started to bleed sap. It hurt but he was strong and went on. Whhoooosh the wind blew hard making the dust fly. Tim could not see anything with all the dust on his face. Finally, the wind calmed down. Tim could see a tunnel. Tim looked into the tunnel. All he could see was darkness. Tim decided to go for it. He went down the tunnel. "Wahooooo", Tim yelled as he slid down the slimy wet tunnel.
The Woods
When Tim got out of the tunnel he saw trees everywhere. Tim said "Hi" to the trees. The trees did not answer. "HI", Tim said louder. The trees still did not answer. "Huh these trees aren't answering" Tim said. "Maybe these trees aren't magical like me because I was born on Magical Mountain", said Tim. It was very dark. Then he saw a cave. He looked in the cave... There was a bear laying down in the cave. "Hi", Tim said. The bear did not answer. "HI", Tim said louder. The bear woke up hungrily and pounced o n Tim unexpectedly. Tim wrapped his branches around the bear and threw him against another tree. Tim felt sad because the bear did not want to be his friend. Then he pushed through the leaves of the trees in the woods and made his way into the grasslands.
The Grasslands
When Tim reached the Grasslands, it was day again. He saw some beavers singing. "Hi" Tim said. "Heeeelllllllllooooo!!!!!!!" said the beavers, "What is your name?". "My name is Tim", said Tim, "What is your name?"
"My name is Choco" and "My name is Boco", they said. "Nice to meet you Choco and Boco", said Tim. Then a badger came out of the grass happily. "Would you like some tea", said the badger. "YES! And what is your name?", said Tim. My name is "Chuck" said the badger. "What is your name?", said Chuck. "My name is Tim", Tim said. "Bye Tim" said Boco and Choco "We have a party to go to". Chuck asked "What kind of tea do you want?". "ROOT beer", said Tim. "Ha ha ha" Chuck laughed. What kind of tea do you like Chuck?" asked Tim. "Well I live underground so I like DIRTtea" said Chuck. "Nice pun" said Tim "you're hilarious".
Friends At Last
"Where do you come from?" Tim asked. "I came from Mud Land" said Chuck. "Why did you come here?" asked Tim. "Because it smelled bad there" answered Chuck, "it was awful". "Where do you come from, Tim" asked Chuck. "Magical Mountain" said Tim. "Why did you come here?" asked Chuck. "Because I was lonely and I needed a friend" said Tim. "Oh I guess you have a friend now" said Chuck happily. "Threeeeeeeeeeeee friends" said Choco and Boco "We came back from the party and brought you guys some chocolates". "Yeah I guess I do have friends now" said Tim thankfully. "Choco, Boco, Tim let's go watch the sunset" said Chuck. As the four friends were watching the sunset while drinking tea and eating chocolates they felt grateful for each other and happy for themselves. That night all the friends slept together in Chuck's huge den, and fell asleep fast. They all lived happily ever after.

Short Article - Hypnosis
By - Asha Kuriyan (age 10)
Have you ever gone on a Ride that you really loved? Well, I have! This ride is called Hypnospin, a ride at the Keema boardwalk. Hypnospin is a ride where you spin and there are small bumps that take you up and down. Oftentimes, there is one crazy bump or wild turn in the loop, and you go around the loop about seven times. The crazy bump is crazy and because it is the fastest bump in the circle, it takes you up and down really fast and spins more than the other bumps. The other bumps are slower and only spin a little bit. Some people get really scared on the ride. I don't! It's like a roller coaster ride but a simple one. It looks really easy but w hen you get on you might feel like you will fly out of the seat and over to the parents on the ramp to exit.
Currently, we were waiting in line to go on the ride. I watched as other kids screamed. One little girl cried when she got off the ride because she was very scared. I knew I wouldn't cry, but I might scream a little. All the screaming kids made me more and more nervous. I was determined to try it, so I was going to stay in line. Maybe I wouldn't get scared. We were going with our cousins today, and in the past we had loved this ride. I looked up the stairs to enter and saw the lady, checking kids in. "You are next." she said as if she was the most bored person on earth. The ride before us started. AHHH!!!! The other children on the ride screamed as it started. One was so scared they had closed their eyes and leaned onto the Lapbar. The ride stopped and all the kids got out. We had our wrist bands quickly scanned and the gate stopping us from entering was pushed away. As soon as we got in, I raced forward and jumped into cart four. Cart four was shiny and also very fast. I knew this from watching the other kids on this cart. I looked over at Ashish (my brother) and Paulie Chachen (my other cousin) nervously, they both gave me a reassuring glance. Me and my cousin, Matthew Chachen were sitting together. He also smiled at me and pulled down the Lapbar. "Thank you and enjoy riding Hypnospin," cried the announcer.
Shhhp. The ride began. Up and down. Left to right. We swirled and bounced throughout the loop. I screamed as we got super speedy and spun so much I thought I'd fall out and soar over the silver metal gate to my parents. Whoaaa!!!
I braced for another thrilling moment on Hypnospin. After ten seconds of zooming along without a wild time we hit one. This time, I was ready. Since I was ready this bump felt even more extraordinary and phenomenal than the last one because I wasn't so scared.
We continued bracing for the thrilling moment your cart goes out of control, and shrieking with joy as we went on the normal bumps. The wind was flying in my face because we were going so fast. My hair swooped behind me warning us that the awesome moment was coming. "Ready?" I said to Matthew Chachen. "Yeah!" he cried. I squeezed the cold, grey, metal Lapbar, leaned back, and shut my mouth. My hair swished left and right and my body thrashed around! I looked around me at the blur of colors smiling with joy! I caught a glimpse of my brother on a crazy bump too. His hands were up and he was grinning and shrieking happily. Our cart whirled around and I saw my parents taking photos and videos. I looked at them and tried to make a silly face. My dad smiled as he realized what I was trying to do, and snapped a photo of me trying to do it!
Vvvffffssssshhhhccccclllluuuunk. The ride slowed a bit and fully stopped. "Have a nice day and thank you for riding Hypnospin," the announcer said enthusiastically. We climbed out of our carts and walked over to our parents. I pushed open the gate and thought about how sad I was that Hypnospin was over and how exciting it was. I walked over to mom and dad and told them all about it. " Well, it sounds like you really had a lot of fun on Hypnospin!" my mom said after I finished telling them how cool the ride was. "Maybe we'll have time to go on it again?" dad said looking at my mom. "Yes!" I said hopefully."Maybe." responded my mom. Later I would go on Hypnospin but I did not know that yet. We exited the ramp from Hypnospin, all chatting about what we wanted to go next.
Hypnospin is still one of my favorite rides to this day, and every time I go to the Keema boardwalk I hope to go on this ride. I also hope one day you will also get to go on Hypnospin, and get this crazy fun experience like me! Now you know why I like Hypnospin!!!!!

Poem - Spring
By: Meghna Roy (age 14)
The world awakens, fresh and new In springtime’s gentle, vibrant hue. A gentle breeze, a whispered sigh, As melting snow bids frost goodbye.
The sleepy earth begins to stir, As winter’s grip begins to blur
The melting snow, a gentle breeze Awakens life, a vibrant dream.
The sun ascends, a golden ray, Kissing the earth to start the day.
A sleepy stream begins to flow Where frozen ice once did glow.
The trees awake, their branches bare, Unfurl new leaves, beyond compare. Birdsong fills the crisp morning air Across the fields, where robins take flight in pairs.
The heart rejoices, light and free
In nature's dance, for all to see New life emerges, green and bright, Hope’s tender promise, pure and light.

Poem - The Fallen
By: Shama Dinesh (age 23)
In our sin and power rests glory
Bloody footsteps treading across history
Humanity falls prey to its unending avarice
Standing in the shadows of cowardice and hubris
Dawn brings in hope with its mightiest roars
Delusions leading towards the open doors
Hearts filled with hatred remains heavy and cold
The sins of our souls unburdened, uncontrolled
Doomsday approaches, bloodshed in tow
Neighbours turn to killers, friends into foe
Mankind no longer bound by chains of compassion
Nothing left to fight for but your selfish gumption
