As an artist, belief in oneself is essential. But sometimes, the road to believing in what is possible is paved by the encouragement and unwavering support of others. For me, one of thoseguidinglightswasmyAuntLynn awoman whose dynamic spirit and love for creativity profoundly influences the artist I am today. She was a steadfast supporter of Anam Cara Clay Goods from the very beginning, and she continuestoinspiremeeveryday
ThoughLynnwasmyhusband'sauntbybirth,she embraced me as her own from the moment we met Shebroughtmeintothefoldwholeheartedly, and whenever she spoke to anyone, she proudly called me “her” niece Over the years, she gifted me the most wonderful treasures a refurbished (by her of course) side table with a fabulous pull knob, a huge lamp filled with keepsakes in its base, and an antique apron made from an old tablecloth. Each of these gifts was a reflection of her unique style and generous spirit. Aunt Lynn was also the first person to sell my jewelry, offering space in her antique booth in Nashville. She was always checking in to see how the jewelrybusinesswasgoing,herencouragementa sourceofsupportandmotivation

Aunt Lynn had an incredible eye for color and design Hersenseofstylewasabitquirky,always leaning towards the unexpected, which I absolutely adored She had a unique talent for taking something old, something worn and forgotten, and transforming it into something beautiful and new When I sit down to create, I often find myself channeling her spirit, seeking out ways to blend the old with the new, the traditionalwiththeunexpected.
Our shared love for jewelry was a special bond between us. Aunt Lynn had a beautiful collection of jewelry, each piece reflecting her vibrant personality and keen eye for detail. When she passedaway unexpectedlyin2022Iwasblessed to be gifted some of her collection. While selecting those pieces, I found multiples pairs of Anam Cara Clay earrings mixed in, and it still bringstearstomyeyestoknowshethoughtthat they were special pieces for her too Each time I wear a pair of her earrings, I am reminded of the creative spirit we shared and her belief in my dreams

Aunt Lynn was never one to shy away from bold, unconventional ideas when it came to creativity andart.Shehadafearlessapproachtostyleand interior design, often combining unexpected colors, patterns, and textures in ways that others mightneverhaveconsidered.Goodness,shehad a way with curtains of all things, absolutely stunning.
This willingness to break the rules and explore newpossibilitieshadaprofoundinfluenceonme. Her innovative spirit encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone, to experiment with daring designs, and to embrace the idea that art doesn’t have to follow a set path it can be whatever you imagine it to be Her creative courage continues to inspire me to push the boundaries of my work, a reflection of boldness andoriginality.
Aunt Lynn had an insatiable curiosity and was always on the lookout for new ideas to spark her creativity She would cut out clippings from magazines, collecting images, patterns, and designs that spoke to her, and kept them all in a special stack. It was filled with a kaleidoscope of possibilities that she could refer to whenever she needed a creative boost. Watching her diligently gather and curate these ideas taught me the importance of staying inspired and always seekingoutnewsourcesofcreativity.Herhabitof collecting and exploring different influences has shaped my approach as an artist, encouraging me to continually seek inspiration from the world aroundme
Though Aunt Lynn is no longer with us, her memory lives on. Her belief in me as an artist gave me the confidence to pursue my dreams; shesawpotentialinmywork,encouragingmeto take risks and to trust my creative instincts. That belief was critical during the early days of Anam Cara Clay Goods, and it continues to fuel my passion as I grow and evolve as an artist. She taughtmethatcreativityhasnoboundaries,that it’s okay to be a little quirky, and that the most beautiful things often come from the most unexpectedplaces
Having a support system that believes in you as an artist is crucial. It’s not just about having people who appreciate your work it’s about having people who see your vision, who encourageyoutokeepgoingevenwhenthepath isuncertain.
As I continue on this journey, I carry Aunt Lynn’s spirit with me, knowing that she would be proud of how far I’ve come. As summer seems to be on its way out, it’s the perfect time to reflect on the journey Anam Cara Clay Goods has taken over the past few months. This season has brought several exciting successes, from fulfilling wholesale orders on Faire and expanding my presence in local boutiques to launching new products and collections that resonate with my customers. The Tutti Frutti collection’s summer launch was a standout moment, capturing the vibrant, playful spirit of the season I’ve also made strides in growing my online presence, particularly on Pinterest, where my designs are reaching a broader audienceandinspiringnewfollowers
However, the summer also presented its share of challenges. Navigating the world of social media continues to be tough, with the constant need to create content and engage in an ever-changing landscape. Online sales have been slower than anticipated, reminding me of the realities of owning a smallhandmadebusinessintoday’smarket.Despitethesehurdles,IremaincommittedtomyartandI am motivated by the support and encouragement of this community. The challenges have only strengthenedmyresolvetokeeppushingforward,andIamexcitedtoseewhatthenextseasonbrings.
