The UGG bonfire tale
Brian Smith was a hardworking accounting student living in Australia. He had a deep passion for surfing, music and meditation. One day, Brian realized that accounting wasn’t for him so he decided to change his life, abandoned his corporate career, and traveled to California.
He was inspired by the sense of freedom and the countercultural surf scene. However, while surfing all the legendary breaks such as Rincon, Malibu, Dana Point and Windansea, he soon noticed his surfer friends didn’t wear sheepskin boots like the Australians did after chilly morning surf sessions. He shipped pairs from Australia to show them around, in search of interested takers. And just like that, his idea for the UGG brand was born.
