It aims to provide a platform for these emerging filmmakers to exhibit their work and engage with viewers. The objectives of this event are to:
1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
Promote and support independent filmmaking in Jamaica
Create an opportunity for budding filmmakers to network and establish connections amongst themselves and industry professional
Provide a unique entertainment and cultural experience for the audience who may or may not be filmmakers
Generate interest and enthusiasm for the art of short films, especially in a market like Jamaica’s where films aren’t viewed as a traditional form of Jamaican entertainment
Raise awareness about social and cultural issues depicted in the films
The expected return on investment for the event is estimated at $34000. This includes admission and film entry fee, and excludes potential partnerships or sponsorships. This is done on a zero-budget basis with the assumption that sponsorship isn’t guaranteed. The expected number of attendees is a maximum of 70, with admission fee being $1500 for audience, and $1000 for film entry fee for filmmakers. There will be 10 selected entries.
A part from these tangible returns, it is expected that there will be intangible and long-term returns that can further generate revenue to fund other film projects, or even to offer grants to independent filmmakers. This is through attracting investors, partners and sponsors.
