Notes from the management team: Nicki, Tracey and our deputy manager Carol We would like to start by saying Happy Lunar New year, we hope this year brings you wealth , happiness and good fortune! We would also like to say happy valentines day for the 14th too. Elvia’s maternity leave has finished and she will be coming back this month to support Small Steps and due to unforeseen circumstances, Michaela has left our Harvard park team - we wish her all the best for the future. Just a few small reminders for this month: •

Where the rules and regulations are forever changing with COVID-19 restrictions regarding daily life and travel, please understand that although you may not have to isolate on return from a holiday abroad or if your child is presenting covid like symptoms, we may ask you for proof of negative PCR’S or lateral flows before you are due back in the setting.

If you will be away from the setting due to holiday, illness or appointments - please let us know. You can email, call or register your child’s absence via ParentMail. For those children who receive the Government funding, we must keep an eye on this otherwise we could get penalised for incorrect claims.

•

We are running low on spare clothes - please return anything that belongs to us including wellies, coats socks and underwear! If you are thinking of donating anything that your child no longer needs or uses, please consider donating to us and anything we do not keep we give to charity shops.

We are looking for staff members to join our team: Do you know anyone who holds a Level 3 qualification in childcare and is looking for an afternoon job?

Do you know anyone who maybe wanting to start an apprenticeship in childcare care?

Please do not send in toys from home - this applies to all rooms: We are not responsible for toys from home.

If they go missing while at the setting, we cannot be held accountable for this.

Avoid bringing toys in as they cause more upset when they go missing or have to remain in the child’s bag.

If you use them to get them out of the house, please take them away with you when you drop off.

Regular comforters are fine such as blankets but they must be small and fit in a bag!

Covid Updates and Dates for you diary: COVID-19 updates: All of our staff are continuing to test using the Lateral Flows 2 times a week and sending us their results. We are continuing to have our windows professionally cleaned and all room’s are having regular de-fogging. Where possible all doors and windows are left open to allow clean air to flow through. We will continue to inform you of any positive cases within the nursery as is our duty of care.

Thursday 3rd March - World Book Day! Health and Safety:

Birthdays for the month of February:

Wash and sterilise all cups and bottles when they come home with your child. We only rinse them here and the setting and over time residue can build up in straws and spouts. This can then cause mould which isn't very nice. Please make sure you take your bottles a part and clean them thoroughly.

Small Steps: Happy 2nd birthday to Hazel, Ayodeji, Albie and Aariv!

Freedom Zone: Happy 3rd Birthday to Alexandra, Leonidas and Amarr! Happy 4th Birthday to Livia and Tessa!

Notes from Baby Studio: Ducklings - Amanda, Mary, Afsha and Gurpreet: Focus: Physical Development (PD) Firstly we would like to start by welcoming Flaviano, Layena and Stanislaw into our room! We would like to say Happy Chinese new year for the 1st of the month and happy valentines day for the 14th!

This month we will be lots of fun physical activities to encourage the babies developing physical skills. The children will be encouraged to join in with mark making and messy play for their fine motor skills as well as crawling through tunnels /tents or climbing on our black and white soft play to support gross motor skills.

With our older babies, we will be going on short walk using the reins to explore the local area - please make sure they have shoes they can walk around outside in , strong sturdy shoes are best.

We will also be having lots of musical movement opportunities - if your baby is into music at home, send up some video’s of them ‘dancing’ via the EyLog! Reminders: 



Please keep your babies nails as short as possible for their own safety as well as the safety of others. If you struggle to clip them, try when they are fresh out of the bath or while they are sleeping.

Please label all of your children’s belongings including bottles, coat and hats - if you are unable to do this let us know and we will put their initials on a label inside their things.

Notes from Small Steps: Bunnies - Qani, Martina, Amy, Harriet, Elvia and Sonia: Focus: Communication and Language. Our theme will be Songs and Rhymes!

Firstly we would like to welcome Matthias who will be joining us this month. We would also like to welcome back Elvia who will be coming in to support our room. Happy Chinese new year for the 1st of the month and happy valentines day for the 14th!

This month we will looking at learning some new songs and rhymes as singing is a great way for children to pick up new words and phrases. We use songs throughout the day such as during transitions, before meal times and at tidy up times. Try and incorporate them at home to encourage good tidying up at home. We will also do a range of different activities to support this such as promoting fine and gross motor skills in the garden and using small groups to promote turn taking.

Reminders: 

Comfortable shoes which fit: It is important for children to wear shoes that fit. Shoes that are too big will cause accidents such as tripping - a good set of shoes is important for physical development.



Please provide clean and empty water bottles: To prevent leaks in children’s bags, please make sure your child’s water bottle is empty and we will fill the bottle here. That way you know it will be fresh water everyday. 

It is getting cold a woolly hat, gloves and scarf with thick winter coat are a must! We do go out on walks when the weather permits so these pieces of clothing are essential.

We will send out reminders closer to the time but Pinterest, Google and Asda always have some creative book character ideas and costumes. Ask you child what they think they might like to be on Thursday 3rd March !

Notes from Freedom Zone: Cool Cats - Viviana, Charlotte, Sam, Sherry, Ellie, Nabila, Saptati , Katie, Hannah and Danielle: Focus: Space and the Universe!

As we welcome in the month of February, we would like to start by welcoming Julia, Maya and Ragav to our room! Also, Happy Chinese new year for the 1st of the month and happy valentines day for the 14th!

We will be holding a Space Project this month and are asking you to spend the next few weeks creating something based around space. It can be as simple as drawing a space rocket on a piece of paper or creating your own planet out of paper mâché. We would like all of your space projects to be brought into nursery for Friday 18th February! For the month of February we will be looking into Space and the universe. We will be addressing all areas of development through set activities as well as incorporating the children's set targets. There will be lots or mark making, junk modelling and creative development through role play. Physically we will be getting outside creating rockets from our large wooden blocks and material as well as walks around our local environment.

Reminders: 

Completing your set homework: Once your keyworker has set homework targets for your child through the EyLog, we would like either physical evidence or photographic evidence of them completing their homework. Key workers will be beginning to speak to those parents who are not posting anything on their profiles. Thank you to those parent’s who are completing this on a 6 weekly basis - we are able to see your efforts at home. The reason we set targets and homework is simply for the benefit of your child to help support them in their development. Their learning and development doesn’t just happen at nursery, it happens at home and outside too.



Breakfast time: Please ensure you are bringing them in before 9:00am if you require them to eat with us at the setting. At 9:15 we are tidying up and getting ready for group time - so after 9:15 will are unable to offer breakfast. Please make sure you are in the setting before 9:30 - children are missing out on learning and it is better now to get them into a routine ready for school in September!



The weather is changing - please make sure you are bringing in a coat/thick jacket, hat gloves and scarf set and sturdy shoes so we can continue to get our daily dose of fresh air. We do go out in all weathers unless deemed extreme.



Dummies: Where possible, please avoid bringing dummies into the setting. We understand some children need them for sleep time if they are here all day. We do encourage dummies to remain in bags but after a while they can have an impact on speech development - consider limiting the use of the dummy in the day especially for children aged 3 and over.



Drinking from cups: Please do not bring in any baby bottles or bottles with rubber teats. Encourage your child to drink from a cup at home - if your child brings in a baby bottle, we will transfer the contents into a cup and encourage them to drink it throughout the day.



Supporting self help skills at home: During mealtimes, encourage your child to feed themselves. It is important for you to know that when they go to school, they will not get the support with eating that they do here. If they are not eating, they are not fed by and adult. If you need support or ideas of how to tackle this at home, please speak to your child’s keyworker.



Please send in pictures of your child’s home via the EyLog to help develop our home area. These photo’s will be used no where else and can be of somewhere like your kitchen or you garden. The staff will also be helping develop the area too.
