in 1993, kate spade took the world by storm when she released the very first “sam” bag. it was sensible, stylish, and feminine- qualities we carry with us to this day.

2018 marks our 25th anniversary. over the past 25 years, we’ve realized that we are more than just a brand- we are a lifestyle. in honor of our special anniversary, we’ve created this magazine as a source of inspiration for all of the kate spade girls out there. for those of you who are daring bold unapologetically feminine witty fun and most of all, originalthis is for you. this year we strive to celebrate the little joys in life. we choose to find love and laughter in all aspects of the world, and to inspire those around us to do the same. we are so honored to have you be a part of the celebration- and can’t wait to show you what’s inside.

a trip down memory lane

1993

kate brosnahan spade, our fearless founder, starts out on her mission to create the perfect handbag. her first collection featured six simple silhouettes, and combined sleek style with playful colors.

editors, media outlets, and fashion gurus alike fell madly in love with the original designs. so much so, our very first store opened up in new york city in 1996!

right before the very first show, we made a last minute change and took all the labels off the insides of the bags and sewed them to the outside. it was a risk, but it paid off well, and we pay homage to this move in all our designs.

the designs flew off the shelves, and before you know it, our effortless charm and sense of wit was now an iconic image across the world for our brand.

time went on, and in 2007, the brand found new direction in fashion house liz claiborne inc (which later turned into kate spade & co.).

in 2017, we experienced a period of exciting change. we partnered up with tapestry, and are now sister brands to both coach and stuart weitzman. we also gained a new chief creative officer in nicola glass, who will be debuting her first official collection this fall.

not too long after, deborah lloyd and craig levitt came on board as chief creative officer and chief executive officer (respectfully). their innovation truly helped us grow to unimaginable heights.

today, we are an all encompassing state of mind. we cover all bases of life, from our classic handbags, ready to wear, home accents, and even fragrance. and we’re still only 25 years young.

hen our eponymous founder kate spade began her journey to

develop a stylish, yet, simple handbag in 1993, she was convinced that others would appreciate her unique combination of structure and style. and she was right. only 25 years later our extraordinary world has blossomed into an international lifestyle company, and we’ve certainly grown a lot along the way.

even though it’s our birthday, it still feels too good to be true. together we’ve made novelty bags that add a dash of wit and whimsy to any ensemble, conquered the art of the fit-and- flare dress, and extended our offering to irresistibly luxurious pieces under the madison avenue collection. the delightful kate spade world is even available to homes everywhere with our new interior décor and kitchenware! so whether you’re pouring champagne for an impromptu toast or going on a coffee run, there’s a dash of kate spade in your life no matter the occasion. and now we find inspiration from you. From the runways in new york to our international flagships, there’s a kate spade girl everywhere. and to celebrate our infinite love for you (we hope the feeling is mutual!), we want to take a moment to rejoice in our 25 favorite things and encourage you to do the same. so where do we go next? we have a feeling that the things we love will guide the way. but it’s the adventure that we’re looking forward to most, of course!

travel this is one of our favorite ways to find inspiration! whether you’re traveling to a new cafe or across the ocean, the world is yours. where would we be without the bougainvilleas in france, or the romantic neons of marakesh?

brunch beautiful things happen around the brunch table. “eat cake for breakfast“ isn’t just one of our favorite sayings, it’s a lifestyle.

a spontaneous soirée sometimes the best parties happen for no reason. sust add good friends, good wine, and an insatiable zest for life!

anything gold while technically it’s our silver birthday, we can’t help but profess our love of gold. with its ability to elevate any look, we’re convinced that “good as gold” is more than a saying. it’s life.

next up on our trip, we decided to make a stop in new orleans. we were so inspired by the energy and history of this gorgeous town, and couldn’t wait to showcase it in our february collection. and of course, who goes to new orleans without getting some amazing local cuisine? we loved the dining so much, we even named one of our new bags after our favorite restaurant!

after bustling around new orleans, we hopped on over to charleston, sc for some good old southern hospitality. a glass of sweet tea in one hand and some peach cobbler in the other (grabbing the staples, of course!), we loved walking through the colorful architecture and experiencing the warm breeze that comes with march in the south. it was all so welcoming! our top to-do’s: glide down rainbow row do some light shopping and snacking on king street

woman. our amazing founder started this company on the idea of wanting something more. something that appealed to women and inspired them to lead more joyful lives, and to look good while doing it. here we are, 25 years later, and we have grown

to be an incredible group of powerful, strong, and inspiring women who aren’t afraid to shake things up and to change the world. we are more than just a brand, we are a state of mind. we aren’t afraid to speak our minds, and to do it all while wearing heels. we are unapologetic and passionate in what we do. and most importantly, we never give up. over the course of time, women have had to fight for the rights we have today. the right to vote, the right to work, the right to our own bodies- and we’ve never given up the fight. today, we are surrounded by incredible women and honored to succeed those before us, and we are truly proud to be a part of this community. while we’d never pick favorites, we’ve decided to dedicate a section of each issue to highlight some women who are doing great things, and inspire us every day to be boss babes and to chase after our dreams. this magazine is dedicated to the “kate spade girl”, and we believe the following 6 women are some of the best examples out there of the mentality we live by. all images are property of their respective owners.

as the name suggests, these two identical twin sisters run the fashion blog, The Double Take Girls. their blog started back in 2011 with a simple mission, to share their unique styles to women on a budget. they’ve grown to over 66k followers since

best known for her role as kate on the nbc show “this is us”, chrissy metz is making sure to leave her mark on the hollywood scene. outspoken in issues such as body positivity, believing in yourself, and pushing your limits, metz is a true burst of light during trying times, and consistently pushes the envelope on stereotypes in the modern world.

electric, hypnotic, passionate. kelsey lu is a classically trained cellist making waves in the music industry. we love her determination in everything she does (she sat outside her college admission’s office until they finally allowed her to audition!) her lust for life and free spirit are contagious, and we learn a little something new from her every day.

what can you say about miss piggy that hasn’t already been said? we absolutely love miss piggy, a true style icon who is never afraid to fight for what she wants, and to do it in pink. she always has just the right amount of sass for every situation (sometimes even in french!), and her determination and confidence are by far unmatched.

here at kate spade new york, we believe every day brings cause for celebration (with lots of bubbly and hor deurves too!). while there are many ways to celebrate your own personal joys, we personally always love a well crafted soirée, and, not to toot our own horn, we’d say we are pretty good at throwing one together. today, we decided to touch on how to throw the perfect brunch party, whether it’s just for you and your best friend, or the whole building! no matter what time of year it is, there’s always a reason to celebrate the little things in life, and what better way to ring in joy than with a mimosa or two?

nothing says “there’s a party brewing” like a well styled cheese plate. fresh crackers, sliced cheese, a dash of fruit- you’re on your way to feeling like remy in that one scene from ratatouille! we personally recommend one soft cheese, one hard cheese, and one firm cheese, paired with a fabulous wine, of course. make sure you don’t crowd the plate, but balance enough for everyone to enjoy.

what party is complete without a little sugar, spice, and something nice? for our brunch gathering, we grabbed some adorable bite size pastries, including mini croissants and strawberry filled puff bites. break up your carbs with pops of color to brighten up your palette! paired with fresh strawberries and served on the perfect polka dotted tray, you are sure to please every sweet tooth around.
