HOW IS YOUR CONFERENCE PLANNED ? Many wonder how we choose the locations and the CE courses we offer for our 2 conferences that are held annually. The answer is, we gather input for both (locations and CE courses) from you, our AMTA members, via our online and in-person surveys. The surveys are kept and tracked, not to lose sight of previous results. For the 2 annual SD-AMTA conferences, the Board tries to make it fair for all members, by hosting the Fall conference, even numbered years, (late September/early October) somewhere East River and odd numbered years, somewhere West River. The Spring conference (late April/beginning May) is held in a more “central” location. The board decided this is the best option for a state as vast and wide spread as South Dakota is (383 miles East to West and 237 miles North to South, per Google.) All AMTA members, fellow massage therapists, and other holistic practitioners are welcome to attend the conferences. The venue chosen for each conference is determined by a few factors: if there is availability for the dates the CE presenter is available, if the venue can host a conference such as ours in one location, (typically we try to have the venue and sleeping rooms at the same location for less travel time), as well as the overall cost for hosting a conference. The SD-AMTA board is looking for feedback on the following: We are looking to change our location choice up a bit, due to the increasing rapid growth our state has had. Over the past few years, we have found that the Fall Conference has been becoming harder to accommodate the lowest cost (we try to have) to host our conference, as both East and West sides of the state have considered the timeframe of our conference, “Wedding Season” or have other various large events happening keeping the costs higher (Sanford Senior PGA Classic (Sioux Falls), & Buffalo RoundUp (Rapid City) to name a few). Our “central” locations seem to be more stable in terms of “lower / less fluctuating” rates, throughout the time we would annually host our conference. We are looking to possibly switch our annual Fall Conference locations with our Spring conference location in the near future, with coinciding timeframes. We will be putting a request for response on a few of our upcoming survey's.
