Advancing a new era of Latino prosperity by expanding Latinx leadership across sectors, galvanizing legislative and public support, and championing continual economic mobility.

Breaking barriers. Shaping futures.

Over the past 7 years, we have grown our diverse network to 10,000 strong. These vibrant, multicultural, cross-generational, multi-racial Latinos are innovators, entrepreneurs, and established and emerging leaders. They serve in elected and appointed positions, boards, and commissions, and hold executive roles across Massachusetts. We actively champion advocates for racial equity and economic mobility by increasing Latinx representation in decision-making positions of power.

Unleashing untapped Latinx economic potential

We create visibility for Latinx-owned businesses, facilitate connections to existing resources, and advocate for access to capital and equitable contracting opportunities.

LEADERSHIP launchpad

Expanding Latino leadership across sectors

Empowering devoted Latinx community advocates

We partner with multistakeholder coalitions, advocate for voter participation, prioritize policies that impact the Latinx community, and galvanize support by engaging civic advocates.

When Latinx kids don’t see themselves represented on stage or film or television or newspapers or history textbooks, what they’re told is, ‘You don’t matter. But when they see themselves represented, then they are told ... ‘You are important. You are authors. You are scientists. You are explorers. You are special. You are leaders. You are respected. You are the reason we are here.’

Honoring 100 Local Latinx Leaders

Changing Massachusetts | 2023

Our Amplifiers are leaders, risk-takers, quiet disruptors, and outspoken advocates from all industry sectors, who inspire us each day to uplift our Latinx community. Their stories encompass a highly diverse group of incredible people with distinct histories, professions, cultures, languages, traditions, and identities.

We hope that by telling their stories we can advance a new era of Latinx prosperity in Massachusetts, and beyond!

Representation and Visibility: By amplifying the Latinx story, we ensure that Latinx individuals see themselves reflected in various forms of media, literature, and cultural representations. This representation fosters a sense of belonging, pride, and identity, as well as combating stereotypes and misconceptions. Furthermore, sharing the stories of successful Latinx individuals in various fields provides role models for younger generations, inspiring them to pursue their dreams and break barriers.

Cultural Understanding & Preservation of Heritage: The Latinx story encompasses a rich tapestry of historical events and contributions. By preserving and promoting these stories, the community’s heritage is kept alive for future generations. Sharing the Latinx story bolsters cultural understanding and appreciation among diverse communities. It enables people from different backgrounds to learn about Latinx traditions, values, customs, and histories, fostering empathy and respect.

Challenging Stereotypes and Prejudice: The media and mainstream narratives have often perpetuated negative stereotypes about Latinx individuals, leading to prejudice and discrimination. Telling these stories can challenge these misconceptions, fostering more inclusive societies, and bridging gaps between different cultural groups, encouraging dialogue, collaboration, and mutual respect.

Empowerment and Empathy: Sharing the Latinx story allows individuals within the community to feel empowered by their heritage and history. It also helps non-Latinx individuals develop empathy and solidarity with the Latinx community, promoting social cohesion. Latinx narratives can shed light on the challenges and issues faced by the community, such as immigration, racial discrimination, socioeconomic disparities, and more. It is imperative policies and civic initiatives reflect these lived experiences.

Arturo Natella

was raised with a powerful set of values: hard work and humility. These principles were like guiding stars, leading him on a path to success beginning with a fortuitous encounter with a recruiter named Cookie who opened the doors for Arturo. With Cookie’s expert guidance, he fine-tuned his resume and cover letter, propelling him to his first rung on the ladder of success.

At the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center workforce development division, Arturo found his footing and began crafting the blueprint for a transformative vision that would become Amaru. Immersed in the world of poverty alleviation, he gained invaluable insights into what employers truly sought in potential candidates. It was a valuable lesson — he soon realized that being humble and working hard alone wasn’t enough to pave the way to upward mobility.

In 2014, a new chapter unfolded as Arturo joined the Martha Coakley for Governor Campaign, assuming the role of Deputy Constituency Director. Tasked with organizing immigrant communities across Massachusetts, he dove headfirst into building connections within the vibrant Latino and other BIPOC communities. His passion for representing their voices at campaign decision-making tables knew no bounds.

But as life often unfolds, the campaign faced defeat, leaving Arturo feeling disoriented and in need of guidance on his next steps. Seeking support from leaders within communities of color, he encountered the sobering reality that assistance was often limited and occasionally misguided. It became evident to Arturo that the existing system lacked efficiency, equity, and empathy.

This struggle became a catalyst for change — a revelation that would shape the course of Arturo’s story. He embarked on a mission to increase access and awareness of job opportunities for the community, curating a comprehensive list of jobs to

share. This initial endeavor laid the foundation for what would later become Amaru. His vision soon took on a brand of its own, aiming to provide the best opportunities for upward mobility while ensuring quality control measures were in place. Every step was informed by years of workforce development research and Arturo’s lived experiences.

With time, Amaru found its place as a trailblazer in DEI recruiting. Guided by Arturo’s unwavering determination, the platform became a beacon of hope for countless BIPOC job seekers. He became a coach and advocate, empowering them to navigate the complexities of the job market with empathy and expertise. Through Amaru, over half a million dollars flowed back into the community, a testament to the transformative power of meaningful employment.

Arturo’s story is one of resilience, advocacy, and an unshakable passion for creating change. These values form the very essence of Amaru’s mission — to forge new paths, connect diverse candidates with opportunities, and pave the way to access and prosperity for all.

Daniela Ramirez Schrempp

has a heart filled with compassion and a determination to make a difference in the lives of others. For the past twenty years, she has embarked on annual trips back to her home country of Colombia and other parts of South America, where she experiences what she considers the most rewarding working week of the year.

Her travel companions on these soul-stirring trips are her colleagues from two organizations that hold a special place in her heart: Healing the Children and Global Smile Foundation. Together, they devote themselves to providing care and hope to underserved communities, focusing on patients born with congenital malformations such as cleft lip and palate.

Daniela’s most recent adventure took her to Neiva, Colombia, with Healing the Children. In this bustling city, they screen hundreds of kids who have traveled with their families through challenging jungles and terrain, utilizing boats, buses, and even donkeys - whatever it takes - to reach the medical mission. But despite their determination, there are no guarantees, as the capacity of their resources allows them to provide treatment to only about 150 children. For those who aren’t selected or are too young, the disappointment means waiting an entire year to go through the process again.

Amidst these challenges, Daniela and the rest of the team work tirelessly to offer support to the families and provide care to the children during their recovery. There are no complaints, only gratitude, and tangible positive energy fills the air. For the parents, the surgery isn’t merely about correcting their child’s malformations, but about providing them with a better life.

Over the years, Daniela has had the opportunity to reconnect with former patients who return to the hospital, either

seeking help for another family member or simply expressing their heartfelt gratitude. Witnessing the transformation in these families’ lives is incredibly fulfilling and humbling for Daniela. It puts her worries into perspective and serves as a poignant reminder for herself and her family of how fortunate they are. It becomes a profound lesson on the importance of paying it forward and spreading kindness and compassion to those in need.

Through her unwavering dedication to making a positive impact and her unyielding commitment to the well-being of others, Dr. Daniela Ramirez Schrempp exemplifies the true spirit of a changemaker. Her annual working week may be the highlight of her year, but its effects extend far beyond those seven days, as she continues to touch lives and uplift communities — one smile at a time.

Jonathan Guzman

Jonathan Guzman’s path is woven with a tapestry of passion, resilience, and a relentless commitment to making a positive impact. Born in Rio Piedra, Puerto Rico, to Dominican Republic parents, Mr. Guzman’s story begins with a humble upbringing in Santa Juanita, Bayamon. It was here that he first discovered the power of service and community.

Throughout his formative years, he attended the Math, Science, and Technology Academy at Lawrence High School, where he saw an opportunity to lead and make a difference. During his high school years, Jonathan founded the Humanitarian Club, driven by a mission to not only provide community service opportunities for Lawrence’s youth but also to empower them to become leaders. The club’s impact was felt throughout the community, lending a helping hand to those in need and inspiring a chain reaction of positive change. Their motto, “Saving the World One Step at a Time,” became a beacon of hope for the city.

His dedication to service continued as he pursued higher education. Jonathan earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology with the dream of becoming a veterinarian. However, during his studies, he recognized a pressing need for environmental justice and a disproportionate distribution of resources in BIPOC communities. This realization fueled his passion for advocating for change and led him to add a minor in Political Science following the 2016 presidential election.

His trajectory in public service took a significant step forward when Jonathan ran for public office in 2019, seeking a position on the Lawrence School Committee. With the support of friends, family, and colleagues, he embarked on a sticker campaign that culminated in his election. Serving his community in this capacity, he has championed positive change, advocated for students’ well-being, and worked to remove the state receivership from the Lawrence Public School system.

Beyond his role on the School Committee, Jonathan continued to be a driving force in community engagement. He joined Groundwork Lawrence, an organization dedicated to preserving environmental justice and supporting community development initiatives. In his role as Public Affairs Coordinator and later as External Affairs Manager, he harnessed his legislative expertise to influence policy and advocate for public health, food access, and economic stability.

Through his work with Groundwork Lawrence, Jonathan also became deeply involved with WE ARE LAWRENCE, an initiative that emerged to showcase the city’s positive aspects and foster unity within the community. Serving as a beacon of hope and a platform for communication, WE ARE LAWRENCE celebrated the city’s strengths, rallied support from various sectors, and demonstrated the power of collective action.

From his early days in high school, where he founded the Humanitarian Club, to his current role as External Affairs Manager at Groundwork Lawrence, he has embraced the spirit of community and advocacy. As he continues to serve the City of Lawrence, Jonathan strives to create a brighter, more inclusive future for the city he loves and has dedicated his life to nurturing and supporting.

From the outset, Jonathan has defied the odds and shattered barriers. As a first-generation college graduate from an Ivy League institution, he has proven that hard work and determination can lead to remarkable achievements. With grit and determination, Paz developed a strategic voter and legal program, successfully challenging the constitutionality of the anti-worker law. His dedication ensured that gig workers retained their rights and the prospect of higher wages, proving that people can make a

difference against even the most powerful forces.

A proud alumnus of Revere High School, Class of 2012, Juan’s pursuit of knowledge took him to the University of Massachusetts Boston, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. This hands-on experience instilled in him a deep appreciation for those on the front lines, and he knew he wanted to dedicate his career to serving others.

After graduating, Juan’s commitment to public service only grew stronger. He delved into the world of politics, interning with Speaker Bob DeLeo’s office, and later serving as Budget Director for State Senator Joseph Boncore.
