THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION PART
I
This spring we are immensely proud to present you THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION - Part I, a single owner sale that features many of the most desired wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Words fall short to describe this greatest of collections that is truly unique in combining incredible quality with immaculate provenance.
This connoisseur’s love for wine started in the late 1970’s with a visit, organized by some fellow university students, to several wine regions in France. “At home I remember that my father occasionally opened a bottle of wine on Sunday, so I had some experience, but it was actually the visit and tasting at Château Lafite that got me hocked. Like many others I first started buying and drinking Bordeaux wines, simply because you could find bottles in abundance and the labels were easy to discern. One of my first expensive purchases was a few cases of the, at that time, just released Château Latour 1982 (there are six bottles in this sale) and Château Lafite 1982 which cost me at the time more than 2 months of salary.
Quickly, however, I realised that my heart lay in Burgundy. The sheer profoundness of a great Burgundy is incomparable to anything else. I feel lucky that I fell in love with these wines in the 1980’s. Back in the day it was so much easier to get access to what is now recognized as the best Burgundy has to offer. You could knock on the door of any wine producer; try all the wines he crafted and just buy several boxes of the ones you liked the most. An extra surplus was that, with the exception of the wines from DRC, they were inexpensive when compared to the wines of Bordeaux. One must take into account that the 1970’s and beginning of the 1980’s was a difficult period for any wine producer (…) and especially so in Burgundy with many wet and poor vintages and little interest for their wine from the general public. My only guidebook was my palate and I bought those wines that I thought to be the best. I would travel to Burgundy whenever I could – as often as 20 times a year to see, talk and drink with many a producer. Over the years I formed lifelong friendships and still today I travel to Burgundy whenever I can. I have truly been very fortunate in life and it gave me the opportunity to drink great wines in abundance with friends and family. Now, I decided to let go of a part of my collection and I hope that these wines will be cherished in enjoyed by other wine lovers.
This first offering – you read it correctly, this offering is just a first part –comprises 1204 bottles divided over 489 lots.
We start with a small, but substantial, selection of the crème de la crème from Bordeaux. You will find different size bottles from all the Premier Grand Cru Classé estates and 4 vintages of Petrus in regular size bottles, magnums and a double magnum, on top of that there are several vintages of Le Pin and Château Lafleur.
Burgundy, however, holds center stage in this sale with no less than 440 lots. We focus on the wines from Burgundy producers Arnaud Ente, Mugneret-Gibourg and Armand Rousseau – including 72 bottles of the Chambertin and Chambertin ‘Clos de Bèze’ - in this first offering but there are also wines from DRC, D’auvenay, Dujac, Georges Mugneret Gibourg, Clos de Tart, Sylvain Cathiard, Arnaux-Lachaux, Emmanuel Rouget, Comte de Voguë, Georges Roumier, Anne Gros, Coche Dury, Domaine Leflaive, Ramonet, Dugat-Py and many more.
THE IMMACULATE COLLECTION is an unrivalled collection of wine, amassed by someone with a passion, that will resonate with all true wine lovers round the world. This sale brings you a superlative array of wines bought directly from the producers. If ever there were a pristine collection of wines, this is it!

MARGAUX
At the beginning of the 1990s, an exchange of shares was negotiated with the Agnelli family but the management remained in the hands of Mentzelopoulos’ daughter Corinne Mentzelopoulos. In 2003, Corinne Mentzelopoulos bought back the majority stake and became the sole shareholder of Château Margaux.
The domaine of Château Margaux extends 262 hectares (650 acres), of which 87 hectares are entitled to the Margaux AOC declaration. 80 hectares are planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, with 2% Cabernet Franc and Petit verdot. 12 hectares (30 acres) are cultivated with Sauvignon blanc to make the dry white Pavillon Blanc.
The average annual production of the Grand vin, Château Margaux, is 150,000 bottles.

LAFITE ROTHSCHILD
Owned by members of the Rothschild family since the 19th century, and rated as a First Growth under the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. Château Lafite Rothschild is situated in the wine-producing village of Pauillac in the Médoc region to the north-west of Bordeaux, the estate was the property of Gombaud de Lafite in 1234. In the 17th century, the property of Château Lafite was purchased by the Ségur family, including the 16th century manor house that still stands. Although vines almost certainly already existed on the site, around 1680, Jacques de Ségur planted the majority of the vineyard.
Towards the end of the 18th century, Lafite’s reputation was assured and even Thomas Jefferson visited the estate and became a lifelong customer. The 20th century has seen periods of success and difficulty, coping with post-phylloxera vines, and two world wars. During the Second World War the Château was occupied by the German army, and suffered heavily from plundering of its cellars. The vineyard is one of the largest in the Médoc at 107 hectares, and produces around 35,000 cases annually, of which between 15,000 and 25,000 are first growth. The blend of the first growth is between 80%-95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% and 20% Merlot, and up to 3% Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.
MOUTON ROTHSCHILD
Originally known as Château Brane-Mouton, its red wine was renamed by Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853 to Château Mouton Rothschild.
In the 1920s it began the practice of bottling the harvest at the estate itself, rather than shipping the wine to merchants for bottling elsewhere. The branch of the Rothschild family owning Mouton Rothschild are members of the Primum Familiae Vini. In 1973, Mouton was elevated to “first growth” status after decades of intense lobbying by its powerful and influential owner,[1] the only change in the original 1855 classification. This prompted a change of motto: previously, the motto of the wine was Premier ne puis, second ne daigne, Mouton suis. (“First, I cannot be. Second, I do not deign to be. Mouton I am.”), and it was changed to Premier je suis, Second je fus, Mouton ne change. (“First, I am. Second, I used to be. Mouton does not change.”).
Château Mouton Rothschild has its vineyards on the slopes leading down to the Gironde Estuary, in the Bordeaux region, mainly producing grapes of the Cabernet Sauvignon variety. Today, Château Mouton Rothschild has 90 ha of grape vines made up of Cabernet Sauvignon (81%), Merlot (15%), Cabernet Franc (3%) and Petit Verdot (1%).

HAUT-BRION
The estate Château Haut-Brion dates back to April 1525 when Jean de Pontac married Jeanne de Bellon, the daughter of the mayor of Libourne and seigneur of Hault-Brion, who brought the land in her dowry. In 1533 bought the title to the domain of Haut-Brion, while construction of the château was begun in 1549.
Manager Jean-Bernard Delmas retired in 2003, and was succeeded by his son Jean-Philippe Delmas. Prince Robert of Luxembourg who has acted as an administrator at Haut-Brion since the age of 18, became in 2008 Président Directeur Général of Domaine Clarence Dillon.
Château Haut-Brion devotes 48.35 hectares to red grape varieties, with a distribution of 45.4% Merlot, 43.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9.7% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, and 2.87 ha to white grape varieties, distributed with 52.6% Sémillon and 47.4% Sauvignon blanc. The annual production ranges from 10,000 to 12,000 cases (900 to 1,080 hL) of the red grand vin Château Haut-Brion, and from 650 to 850 cases (59 to 76 hL) of Château Haut-Brion Blanc.

LAFLEUR
Château Lafleur is unclassified, but the estate is estimated among the great growths of the region. Among the most rare and expensive wines, the wine is widely cited as one of the world’s finest.
Located in the vicinity of Petrus, this small estate shares history with the property across the road, Château Le Gay. Both part of the property Le Manoir de Gay in the mid 18th century, it was purchased by the Greloud family and divided among the sons into two properties, the Domain de Lafleur section eventually inherited by André Robin who imprinted on Lafleur his personal motto, “Qualité passe quantité” (French: Quality surpasses quantity).
In 2001, Jacques and Sylvie Guinaudeau took charge of the estate. The vineyard area consists of 4 hectares with the grape varieties of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc. The annual production averages 1,000 cases of the Grand vin Château Lafleur.

PETRUS
A small estate of just 11.4 hectares, it produces a red wine entirely from Merlot grape (since the end of 2010), and produces no second vin. Originally, a 7-hectare vineyard, the estate had been owned by the Arnaud family since the end of the 18th century, and the name first appears in records from 1837.
According to David Peppercorn, “the great age of Pétrus” began with the end of World War II and the successful 1945 vintage. Jean-Pierre Moueix of the Libourne négociant house acquired exclusive selling rights of Pétrus in that year, and the international reputation of Pétrus began to grow. Mme. Loubat, who also owned Château Latour a Pomerol, remained an active vigneronne throughout her life, known for her meticulous dedication to detail and quality, and strong determination that her wine deserved to be priced equal to the great crus.
Today the son of Jean-Pierre Moueix, Jean-François Moueix, head of Groupe Duclot, is the owner of Pétrus; he and his children have controlled distribution worldwide via Clés Distribution since 2014.
Petrus produces an average of 30,000 bottles per year.

VIEUX CHATEAU CERTAN
Although the estate’s origins are uncertain, its age has been estimated by professor Henri Enjalbert to an origin date around 1770. It was then the property of the Demay family, and the estate was named Sertan. Long estimated as the leading estate of the region, it yielded the position to the adjacent Pétrus in 1875.
The estate was bought by the Belgian wine merchant Georges Thienpont in 1924, and it has remained within the family since. The family diversified in 1979 when Marcel and Gérard Thienpont founded nearby microcuvée estate Château Le Pin.
In 1985, management of Vieux Château Certan came to Alexandre Thienpont. The estate consists of 14 hectares with the grape variety of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The annual production averages 5,000 cases of the Grand vin.

DAUVISSAT
Domaine Vincent Dauvissat is one of the finest domaines in Chablis. It was established in the 1920s by Robert Dauvissat, and the reputation of the domaine was established by his son, René. Vincent started working with his father in the 1970s and today runs the domaine. Vincent Dauvissat farms nearly 30 acres of meticulously kept vineyards, following sustainable methods. Vinification at the domaine is painstaking and traditional at a time when many growers in Chablis have adopted methods permitting increased yields producing simple wines that reach maturity quickly. Vincent Dauvissat, on the other hand, gives all his wines at least a year in Nevers oak, a portion of which is new each vintage. This practice, imposed on top-quality grapes slowly and carefully fermented, results in wines that are deep, complex, and long-lived. They are clearly characteristic of their respective cru, exhibiting the steely bite so typical of Chablis, but with a purity, intensity of flavor, and structural soundness increasingly rare in the region’s wines.

COCHE-DURY
The domaine was established in the 1920s by Léon Coche. The vineyard land was passed down to Léon’s three children, with Georges Coche taking control of his share in 1964 and continuing to run the estate and purchase new vineyard land. Jean-François Coche took over from his father Georges, on his father’s retirement in 1973. Jean-François’s wife has the surname Dury which was added to the name of the estate. In 1999 Jean-François was joined full-time by his son Raphaël Coche. Raphaël took over the winemaking role at the estate in 2010. Coche-Dury cultivates around 9 hectares of vineyards and produces around 3,500 cases of estate bottled wine each year depending on the vintage conditions. The vineyards are planted with Aligoté, Chardonnay and Pinot noir grapevines. The Chardonnay vineyards include 0.34 hectares of Grand cru vineyard Corton-Charlemagne, and three Premier Cru vineyards in Meursault with 0.5 acres in Perrières, 0.18 acres in Caillerets and 0.21 acres in Genevrières.Village classified vineyard holdings consist of 0.13 acres of Chevalières and 0.73 acres of Rougeots, plus half an acre of the Puligny-Montrachet based Enseignères vineyard. A few red wines are produced from Pinot noir grapes, vineyard holdings include 0.5 acres of Auxey-Duresses, 0.28 hectares of Monthelie, until 2012 0.34 hectares of Pommard Vaumuriens (then sold) and 0.39 acres of a Premier cru Volnay. Coche-Dury is universally regarded as one of the five or six best white-wine makers in Burgundy.

COMTES LAFON
Domaine des Comtes Lafon was originally founded by Jules Joseph Barthélémy Lafon, born in 1864. He married Marie Boch in January 1894, whose family in Meursault already included wine merchants and estate owners. He expanded the business and bought several important parcels of land in the early 20th century, including: Montrachet Grand Cru, the Meursault 1er Crus ‘Perrières’, ‘Charmes’ and ‘Genevrières,” Volnay 1er Crus “Santenots” and “Clos des Chênes.” Jules Lafon largely built the estate as it is today. In 1944, the intention was to sell the estate, but René Lafon disagreed. Twelve years later, he finally took over the estate and restored the vineyards. Dominique Lafon, René’s son, took over the estate in 1984 and gradually ended the sharecropping agreements, so that as of 1987 the entire 13.80 hectares are managed exclusively by the Domaine des Comtes Lafon. Since 1995, viticulture has been entirely biodynamic. Today, the wines of this estate are all considered exceptional wines.

D’AUVENAY
Domaine d’Auvenay is the third entity of the Leroy empire, named after Lalou Bize-Leroy and previously been run by her husband Marcel Bize until his death in 2004.
Its Chardonnays are noted to be the best in the world and their prices reflect this success. Madame Bize-Leroy is Henri Leroy’s daughter, the founder of the Leroy negociant, who bought half of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti in 1942. In 1950s, she took over Maison Leroy, which had an impressive stock of vintage wines. In 1974 she took over from her father and became the joint manager of DRC with her cousin Aubert de Villaine. She had to step down from this position in 1992, but still owns 25% of the shares. While building up the Leroy domain with other quality parcels, she purchased a farm at Saint-Romain that was to become the Domaine d’Auvenay. Included under this name are also the parcels inherited from her father, which were bought between 1989 and 1995. Estate-grown village, Premier Cru and Grand Cru wines made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are produced under the d’Auvenay label. There are only 4 hectares of vines, compared with the 22ha at Domaine Leroy, but these holdings include plots in Mazis-Chambertin, Bonnes-Mares and Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru vineyards, as well as in premier cru vineyards including Puligny-Montrachet ‘Les Folatières’ and Meursault ‘les Gouttes d’Or’.

ARNAUD ENTE
Domaine Arnaud Ente is among the most exciting and eye-catching domains in Burgundy. Reasons: the exceptional wine produced there, as well as the man behind it, Arnaud Ente. He belongs to the second generation of winemakers in his family. His father (who came from northern France) married the daughter of Puligny winemaker Camille David. Arnaud’s brother Benoit is the one currently making the wine in Puligny; Arnaud himself (b. 1966) has settled in neighboring Meursault since the early 1990s. And like his father, he married the daughter of a winemaker, in this case a Meursault winemaker: Philippe Thévenot.
The biggest names in Meursault, like Comtes-Lafon, Roulot, Coche-Dury etc., must have inspired the young Ente. After first gaining experience, Arnaud began making his own wine in 1992, from the vineyards provided to him by his father-in-law. His desire to emulate the “big boys,” and the perfectionist work ethic that resulted, soon made him the focus of attention. In the 1990s, rising star Ente created a furor with a style of Meursault that could be characterized as bold and ripe. But as the years progressed, Ente moved toward finesse and precision, toward a more minerally, pure style. In particular, he accomplished this by picking earlier, and by limiting the use of new wood. The basis of Ente’s estate involves a large Meursault plot that is classified according to the age of the vines, and from which several cuvées are then made. Ente’s perfectionism is particularly evident in the number of workers in the vineyard: 4 people (including his wife Marie-Odile) for about 4.25 hectares throughout the growing season (including Clos des Ambres 0.73 ha). That much manpower per plant is very rarely come across. Finally, Ente takes the credo of “doing a lot of work in the vineyard” very seriously.
The wines, mainly from regional plots (Aligoté and Chardonnay) and village plots (Meursault, Clos des Ambres and Sève du Clos and Puligny-Montrachet), are of exceptional density and precision. From vines that are not part of the most famous plots, Arnaud Ente manages to give a lesson in style to true lovers of great white wines of Burgundy every year. The simple Meursault villages often surpass many of the Grands Crus in beauty of perfume and density of substance. The simple Bourgogne Aligoté has a very fine nose, very pure and refreshing style. The quality level of this wine, from an old vineyard in Meursault on a very draining gravelly terroir, and matured partly in demi-muids, is truly exciting. The white Burgundy (old vine from Meursault and young vine from Puligny), is characterized by freshness, with an already refined but discreet nose. It has a beautiful precise and incisive attack, and a very slender style, with a very pure and tracing finish. The Meursault Clos des Ambres offers a magnificent mouthfeel with delicate notes of candied citrus fruits, with a great finesse of expression. On the palate, there is a superb vibration of fruit and great freshness with, once again, a luminous finish of great clarity, with perfectly integrated wood. This is a wine created for gastronomy, which does not assert itself through its aromatic power but through its mouthfeel. On the red side, the Volnay Premier Cru Santenots du Milieu is superb, with a very pretty nose, fruity, floral, spicy. With a relief in mouth brought by a partial whole harvest, it is a very beautiful wine, with a perfectly integrated woody taste, unfolding its silky matter on a very long final. The discerning wine lover must discover the wines of Domaine Arnaud Ente, whose distribution is still very limited.

DOMAINE LEFLAIVE
The name of the Leflaive estate will long be associated with its famous ambassador Anne-Claude who, with the energy of a pioneer, converted the estate to biodynamics between 1993 and 1997. The Leflaive family has lived in Puligny since 1717. But it took the genius of a maritime engineer, to revive a domain devastated by phylloxera. After participating in the design of the first French submarine, Joseph Leflaive returned to his native village, replanted and made the wines of the estate known far beyond the French borders. The third generation, Olivier, and his cousin Anne-Claude, will consecrate the domain at the top of the Burgundy hierarchy. The attention paid to the vineyard and the wine making allows the wines, particularly rich, to reveal all the subtleties of the various soils. The estate includes Grand Cru vineyards in Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, the Premier crus Puligny-Montrachet ‘Folatières’, ‘Pucelles’ and ‘Clavoillons’ as well as some village and regional wines. To be tasted at least once in in a lifetime!

ARNOUX-LACHAUX
Resulting from the merger of vineyard parcels from different families, this estate has existed since 1858. It first belonged to Charles Arnoux, then after his death to his son Robert Arnoux, whose name the estate bore for almost half a century. Finally, when he died in 1995, the estate was bequeathed to his daughter Florence and her husband Pascal Lachaux, who had learned the trade from Robert for several years. Since then, they spend almost all their time in the vineyards, working to produce a wine they love, and to give emotion and pleasure through it. Since 2011, their eldest son Charles has joined them, getting very involved in all stages of the winemaking process. The members of the Lachaux family preserve their heritage with care and respect, aware of the priceless treasure it is. The estate currently cultivates 14.5 hectares in many different appellations, on which it applies the principles of biodynamics. Great care is taken when working the vines to develop healthy and balanced grapes. The soils are regularly ploughed by a plough horse, the harvest is entirely manual, and rigorous sorting is carried out to keep only the best grapes. In 2005, a new barrel room was added to the estate, where the wine is run off using the gravity principle. The choices made by the Lachaux family are guided by respect for the environment and the perpetual quest for excellence.

SYLVAIN CATHIARD
This family estate is in the small and famous village of Vosne-Romanée. It was founded in the 1930s by Sylvain’s grandfather who previously worked at prestigious domains such as Domaine la Romanée-Conti and Lamarche. Sylvain’s father André Cathiard took over the estate in 1969 and Sylvain joined his father in the vineyards in 1979 after completing his studies at the “Lycée Viticole” in Beaune. Sylvain Cathiard founded his own domain in 1984 by renting plots of vines from André and other wine growers.
In 1994, ten years later, he took over the vineyards that originally belonged to his father. Starting in 2006, his own son Sébastien was brought into the family business. The estate has 5.5 ha of vineyards in Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Chambolle-Musigny and only Pinot Noir is grown on them. The estate has a small section of Grand Cru Romanée-Saint-Vivant, just enough to make three barrels. Other important vineyards include the Vosne-Romanée 1er Crus ‘Les Suchots’, ‘Aux Malconsorts’, ‘Aux Reignots’ and ‘En Orveaux’. Sylvain Cathiard’s wines are extremely rare because of their small production and exceptional quality. They are much sought-after, and they sell for high prices on the international wine market.

CLOS DE TART
Domaine du Clos de Tart is an estate located in Morey-Saint-Dénis that was owned by the Mommesin family since 1932. It received Grand Cru status as early as 1939. The history of the vineyard dates back to the 12th century, when an abbey was built by Cistercian nuns of the order of “Notre Dame de Tart” who bought a vineyard known as “La Forge” from the Hospitalier knights of Brochon in 1141. Before its acquisition by the Mommesin family, there had been only two owners of the vineyard since 1141: the nuns from 1141 to 1791 and the Marey-Monge family from 1791 to 1932. The Mommesin family sold their négociant business back in 1997 to Jean-Claude Boisset but kept Clos de Tart. In October 2017, they also sold the Domain du Clos de Tart to François Pinault of the Artemis Group (Château Latour, Domaine d’Eugénie etc.). Only two wines are produced at the domain, both from the Pinot Noir grape. The first wine is the “Clos de Tart” Grand Cru, selected from the 7.53-hectare monopole vineyard. The second wine is called Morey-Saint-Dénis 1er Cru ‘La Forge du Tart’ and is a selection of wines that would not qualify for the “Grand Vin”.

The domaine’s total vineyard area comprises 12.5 hectares, but what hectares! For example, Comte de Vogüé owns 7.2 ha in the famous Grand Cru Le Musigny. That amounts to 70% of the entire vineyard. In addition, the domaine owns 2.75 ha in the Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares and 1.8 ha in the Premier Cru vineyards Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Baudes’, Chambolle-Musigny ‘Les Fuées’ and 0.65 ha in ‘Les Amoureuses’. ‘Les Amoureuses’ is a premier cru vineyard that produces wines similar in style and character to the great pinots of Musigny, and therefore regularly attributed Grand Cru quality by connoisseurs. Of the 7.2 ha in Musigny Grand Cru, 0.65 ha is planted with chardonnay. This Musigny blanc is perhaps the rarest white Grand Cru from Burgundy. Musigny and Corton are the only two Grand Cru appellations in the Côte d’Or that allow the production of both red and white wine. There is a special story attached to that white Musigny Grand Cru, by the way. After the 1993 harvest, the chardonnay vines had to be replaced by young ones due to age. On own initiative, the estate decides to declassify his white Musigny from Grand Cru to the regional appellation Bourgogne blanc in the following years. Only in 2015 does “Grand Cru” appear on the label again. In interviews, François Millet says he does not want to make Grand Cru wines from vines less than 25 years old for ethical reasons. According to him, this is the minimum time the plant would need to master the terroir. Of all the major Burgundy houses that have a stake in Musigny, Comte de Vogüé was and is the only one still producing a white wine from it.

JEAN-JACQUES CONFURON
It is a domain of 12 hectares and yet its reputation goes beyond the borders. The wines of Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron are among the most sought-after by wine lovers. The estate has been owned by Sophie and Alain Meunier since 1988, located in Premeaux, the neighboring village of Nuits-Saint-Georges. The winery owns vineyards spread across 12 AOCs all located in the Côte de Nuits. Among them Chambolle-Musigny (premier cru), Vosne Romanée (premier cru), Nuits-Saint-Georges (premier cru), Clos Vougeot (grand cru) and the most remarkable: Romanée-Saint-Vivant. It is Alain Meunier who makes it his life’s goal to keep his Burgundy wines high quality.
He regards the vineyards and grapes as a living thing, something that requires constant attention. Almost unbelievable but true is that this man does the work manually as much as possible. As a result, one does not see tractors among his vineyards, but rather winemakers on horseback. This is a costly, and intensive way of working but he is convinced that it does have a beneficial effect in the glass. In the cellars, he combines ancient methods with the most modern techniques. “Some ancient methods have proved their worth, modern techniques allow everything to be refined and better controlled”, says the oenologist at Jean-Jacques Confuron.

DOMAINE DE LA ROMANÉE-CONTI
In 1911, Edmond Gaudin de Villaine was appointed administrator of the winery and buildings were purchased in Vosne-Romanée. Vinification from then on takes place in Vosne-Romanée and no longer in Santenay. Edmond Gaudin de Villaine then also filed for the name Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, after the famous ‘La Romanée- Conti’ vineyard and, with his brother-in-law Jacques Chambon, set a new course for the company. This was not easy, as the previous and coming years had many challenges: the phylloxera disaster, the War of 1870-1871, World War I, the Great Depression and World War II. During this period, the estate was often unprofitable, and money was invested from the proceeds of the Moulin region, where the family has extensive agricultural property. Despite these setbacks, on Aug. 31, 1933, Edmond Gaudin de Villaine purchased the renowned La Tâche vineyard from the Liger-Belair family, who were forced to sell the vineyard due to the economic depression and inheritance issues. The Domaine de la Romanée-Conti already owned the vineyard Les Gaudichots adjacent to La Tâche; the wine from that vineyard was already often called La Tâche, and from Sept. 11, 1936, these vineyards were merged into La Tâche.
During the interwar period, the state of the wine trade was particularly bad. For this reason, Jacques Chambon decides to sell his part of the Domaine. His share comes into the hands of Henri Leroy, dealer in fortified wines and friend of Jacques Chambon. The Domaine is converted to a société civile and on July 31, 1942, Henri Leroy becomes the owner of 50% of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. Henri Leroy was a man of boundless energy who ensured expansion of the estate, for example, by initiating the purchase of parts of Le Montrachet and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Edmond Gaudin de Villaine died in 1950. Henri de Villaine becomes co-gérant alongside Henri Leroy after the death of his father. In 1959, the estate makes its first profit. In 1974, the children of Henri de Villaine and Henri Leroy are appointed co-gérant: Aubert de Villaine and Marcelle Bize-Leroy, who is named Lalou. However, the 1970s are difficult as several bad years fall in this decade and the wine industry notices the negative effects of over-intensive cultivation. In 1985, the talented Bernard Noblet becomes “chef de cave.” From 2008, the wines are produced according to the biodynamic method. In late 1991, a conflict arises between Aubert de Villaine and Lalou Bize-Leroy, and in January 1992 Lalou must leave as co-gérant. Her place is taken by her nephew, Charles Roch, eldest son of Pauline Roch-Leroy, older sister of Lalou Bize-Leroy. After a fatal car accident just two months after his appointment, his younger brother Henry-Frédéric Roch is appointed the new co-gérant.
This wine is among the most expensive in the world. The La Romanée-Conti vineyard is barely 2 hectares and a so-called “monopole,” meaning that all the land within it is owned by one owner. The same applies to the nearby La Tâche vineyard (6.06 hectares).
In addition to the aboce wines, the estate makes wines from vineyards whose ownership is shared with other estates: Romanée-Saint-Vivant (5.28), Richebourg (3.51 ha), Grands-Echézeaux (3.52 ha), Echézeaux (4.67 ha) and Montrachet (0.67 ha). The estate also owns parcels in other (top) vineyards, such as in Chevalier Montrachet, but grapes from those vineyards are mostly sold to merchants.

DUGAT-PY
Winery Dugat-Py is no stranger to Burgundy. The Dugat family has been producing wine in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation since the 17th century, but only since 1989 has the house been bottling their own wines. Currently, the 12th and 13th generations are at the helm of the winery. Over the centuries, unique traditions have developed that can still be found in the wine cellar. The winery in its current form was created when Jocelyne Py married Bernard Dugat in 1994: Domaine Dugat-Py was born. At that time, Dugat-Py owns five acres of vineyards, three of which are classified as grand cru. After a few years of experimenting with organic viticulture, it began working completely organically in 2003. Meanwhile, the vineyard area has grown to ten hectares. Most of the vines are very old, some 65 years old. The pinot noir and chardonnay are harvested relatively early. Whether the stalks are co-fermented depends on the vintage and the quality of the grapes. The wines are fermented in both cement and oak barrels and mature for an average of 16 to 18 months in French oak. For the grand cru wines, 100% new oak is used.
For the village wines, the proportion is 10%. The grand cru wines of Dugat-Py are Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes, Mazis-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin and Mazoyères-Chambertin. For several years, the winery has also had vineyards in Meursault and has since been producing a superb wine from this appellation as well.

DUJAC
In 1967, Jacques Seysses acquired a small domain in Morey-St.-Denis and renamed it after himself. He began his wine career knowing such well-known personalities as Gérard Potel (his apprentice), Charles Rousseau, Bernard Clair-Daü, Henri Gouges and Aubert de Villaine. The first vintage, 1968, was one of the worst in the 20th century, so grapes and wines were sold in bulk, but 1969 was a complete turnaround (a legendary vintage for the pinot noir grape), putting the estate permanently on the map. In 2000, he and his father founded the négociant company known as Dujac Fils & Père. Today, Domaine Dujac is a family business that includes his wife, their oldest two children and their spouses. In subsequent years, the estate expanded significantly as some vineyards became available to take over. It peaked with the purchase of some exceptional parcels rom Domaine Thomas-Moillard in 2005. Domaine Dujac has no less than seven grands crus in their portfolio and is one of the prominent Burgundy domains today. Their flagship grand cru wines are: Le Chambertin (0.29 ha), Romanée Saint-Vivant (0.17 ha), Bonnes Mares (0.59 ha), Clos de la Roche (1.95 ha), Clos Saint-Denis (1.47 ha), Echézeaux (0.69 ha), Charmes Chambertin (0.70 ha) and their latest purchase: Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru ‘Les Malconsorts’ (1.57 ha), along with several other top vineyards in the Côte de Nuits.

The Groffier family are among the best wine makers in the Côte de Nuits. Originally founded by Robert Groffier’s father, Jules in the 1950s, the domaine is now run by Robert’s grandson, Nicolas. The domaine consists of almost 8 ha of fine vineyards, including 1 ha of Bonnes Mares, almost 0.5 ha of Chambertin ‘Clos de Bèze’ and a full hectare of Chambolle-Musigny 1er cru ‘Les Amoureuses’ (The biggest single owner of this vineyard). The parcels he cultivates are all in the Côte de Nuits, in the great terroirs of Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny and Gevrey-Chambertin. A small estate that makes great red Burgundy wines, in particular the Bonnes Mares grand cru.

ANNE GROS
Domaine Anne Gros is a very well-known but relatively small estate from the village of Vosne-Romanée. The estate was known as Domaine François Gros (her father’s first name) until 1988 and as Domaine Anne & François Gros until 1995. Domaine Anne Gros produces wines from both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes sourced from several vineyards in the Côte d’Or, including 3 Grand Crus. The domaine’s flagship wine is undoubtedly the Richebourg Grand Cru (0.6 Ha) made from four different plots in the northern part of the vineyard. The plots are adjacent to those of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy and Domaine A.-F. Gros (a niece of Anne Gros). The other Grand Cru is the Clos-Vougeot ‘Le Grand Maupertui’ (0.93 Ha), made from vines planted in 1905. Anne Gros has also owned a plot in the Grand Cru Echézeaux “Les Loachausses” (0.76 Ha) since 2007. The estate owns a total of 6.5 ha in nine different appellations and all vineyards are farmed biodynamically.

FRANCOIS LAMARCHE
The Lamarche family settled in the small village of Vosne-Romanée around 1740. They expanded their estate and in the early 20th century Henri Lamarche founded the estate. He produced and sold his wines directly from the estate even then. In 1933 he married Aline Demur and as a “wedding present” he inherited the vineyard of “La Grande Rue. His son François took over the domain when his father died in 1985. It is primarily François who made every effort to have Monopole “La Grande Rue” recognized as a Grand Cru in 1989 (and it was eventually promoted in 1992). The vineyard itself is only a narrow strip about 50 meters wide, 1.65 hectares in size and is just above “La Romanée” Grand Cru (Burgundy’s smallest Grand Cru). Sadly, François Lamarche died in a tractor accident near his family’s vacation home in 2013, but his daughter Nicole, his sister Geneviève and his niece Nathalie were already involved in the business and currently run the estate. Domaine Lamarche produces a total of 14 wines from 11.3 ha of vineyards, including beautiful parcels in Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru (1.35 ha), Echézeaux Grand Cru (1.32 ha), Grands Echézeaux (0, 30 ha), and several parcels of top 1er Crus in the Vosne-Romanée region, such as ‘Les Suchots’ (0.58 ha), ‘Les Chaumes’ (0.56 ha) and ‘Aux Malconsorts’ (0.50 ha).

THIBAULT LIGER-BELAIR
After a career in e-commerce, Thibault Liger-Belair returned in 2001 to the family business, in his estate located in Nuits-SaintGeorges. All the vineyards have belonged to the family since the 18th century. And what vines: Richebourg, one of the five grand crus of Vosne-Romanée and some of the best climats of the Burgundy vineyard. The Thibault Liger-Belair estate, not to be confused with his cousin’s estate, the Comte Liger-Belair estate, cultivates 7.25 hectares spread over five communes of the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune. The estate produces eight appellations, among the most prestigious in Burgundy, including a 0.55 hectare parcel of Richebourg grand cru in Vosne-Romanée and another 0.75 hectare in the Clos de Vougeot grand cru appellation. One of the other flagship wines of Thibault Liger-Belair’s estate is undoubtedly the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru ‘Les Saint Georges’.

MEO-CAMUZET
Domaine Méo-Camuzet is a world-class estate located in the village of Vosne-Romanée. The name is derived from two influential men in the history of the estate. The first is: Etienne Camuzet (1876 - 1946) who bought several important vineyard plots and the Château de Clos de Vougeot, which he later donated to the “Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin.” The other person is Jean Méo (from 1927), a nephew of Etienne Camuzet who acquired the domain in 1959. At that time, the vineyards were overseen by several sharecroppers and the wine was sold in bulk. One of those sharecroppers was the legendary Henri Jayer, who put the 1er Cru “Cros Parantoux” on the map! (The contract with the last sharecropper ended in 2007). The Domaine Camuzet became Domaine Méo-Camuzet in 1981 and the first wines were bottled at the estate in 1983. Jean-Nicolas Méo, son of Jean Méo, has led the estate since 1989 but at first it was uncertain whether he would follow in his predecessor’s footsteps. With the help of his father and the sincere advice of Henri Jayer, Jean-Nicolas began creating his own methods of vinifying wine. Most of the vineyards are farmed organically and the wines are aged in barrel, selected by the barrel maker François Frères. Today, the estate has five acres of superior Grand Crus plots and eight acres of Premiers Crus, primarily in Vosne-Romanée and Nuits-Saint-Georges. Jean-Nicolas started a “société de négoce” or trading company in 2003 (along with his sisters) called Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs to expand the number of wines and meet high demand. Domaine Méo-Camuzet’s top wines are: Richebourg (0.34 Ha) and both Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru ‘Cros Parantoux’ (0.30 Ha) and ‘Les Brûlées’ (0.72 Ha).

MUGNERET-GIBOURG
The family settled in Vosne-Romanée in 1930 and the estate is currently run by the third generation, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée, who share the same passion for vineyards and wine. “Mugneret” is a very common name in Burgundy and more particularly in Vosne-Romanée, where it has lasted for many generations. It is a derivative of “meunier” of which “mugnier” is a regional form. “Gibourg” has its origins in the plain of the Saône, in the milieu of cereal farmers. Jeanne Gibourg (1906-1997) married André Mugneret (1905-1986) in 1928 and created together in 1933 the Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg. They produced Bourgogne Rouge, Vosne-Romanée, NuitsSaint-Georges and Echézeaux Grand Cru.
Their only son, Georges Mugneret (1929-1988), an ophthalmologist in Dijon, quickly decided to continue his parents’ work, in parallel with his medical activities: Clos Vougeot Grand Cru in 1953, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru in 1971, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru in 1977, Nuits-SaintGeorges 1er Cru “Les Vignes Rondes” in 1982 and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru “Les Feusselottes” in 1985. He thus created the Domaine Georges Mugneret.
During his military service in Algeria in 1958, Georges Mugneret met Jacqueline, a teacher born in Algiers. She followed him to France, they married and had two daughters, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée. When Georges died in 1988, Marie-Christine gave up her job as a pharmacist to specialize in oenology and to take over the estate with her mother. Marie-Andrée joined them a few years later after obtaining her oenology degree from the University of Burgundy in Dijon.
In 2009 the Domaines Mugneret-Gibourg and Georges Mugneret merged to create the Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The same year, Jacqueline retired and today the domain is managed by the two sisters, Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée. With a little more than 8 hectares and 9 different appellations, the Domaine produces between 20,000 and 30,000 bottles depending on the whims of nature. From the vineyard to the bottling, the work is guided by a permanent search for perfection. The quality of a wine begins with the respect of the soil and the environment. The Domaine has chosen to cultivate its vines in a sustainable manner, thus favoring the unique expression of each parcel.
To cultivate the soil, the Domaine has favored ploughing, which gives the vine the possibility to take deep roots and thus draw the best from its terroir. Each wine is aged in their cellars in oak barrels for 18 months. This maturation is interspersed with racking. Each appellation is then assembled. The wines are bottled at the Domaine without fining or filtration.

GEORGES NOËLLAT
Maxime Cheurlin, grandson of Marie-Thérèse Noëllat, has revived the 5.50 ha domain with mainly old vines. His grandmother sold the harvest to 2 large merchants in Beaune for 20 years. In 2010 this came to an end and Maxime, then only 20 years old, made his first crop. History tells us that George Noëllat was the nephew of the famous Charles Noëllat, once the owner of one of the largest estates in Vosne-Romanée. This domain has made great contributions to the creation of the domains Jean-Jacques Confuron, Hudelot-Noëllat and even formed the largest part of the well-known Domaine Leroy. Cheurlin is clearly a winemaker and is related to the late Henri Jayer and a cousin of Emmanuel Rouget’s sons. In 2009 he worked with them, and he also gained a lot of experience at the Gros Frère et soeur domain. His vineyards are very old and among the most beautiful in Vosne-Romanée. The estate produces, among other, the great 1er Crus ‘Petits Monts’ and ‘Beaux Monts’ as well as the exceptional flagship wines Echézeaux and Grands-Echézeaux.

EMMANUEL ROUGET
Domaine Emmanuel Rouget is a top producer, based in Flagey-Echézeaux, and owner of one of the most prestigious vineyards in Burgundy. Emmanuel Rouget is the nephew of the late Henri Jayer, a legendary Vosne-Romanée winemaker. Emmanuel began working in his uncle’s vineyard in 1976 and learned his techniques. Henri Jayer retired in 1996 and passed his vineyards to Emmanuel Rouget but still gave advice and was responsible for half of the bottles bottled with the Rouget label until 2003. The most important vineyard in his portfolio is undoubtedly the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru ‘Cros Parantoux’ (1.01 hectares). It is only 0.72 hectares, planted with Pinot Noir and located above the well-known Grand Cru ‘Richebourg’, and shared with Domaine Méo-Camuzet, who own the remaining 0.29 hectares. Average annual production by Rouget of ‘Cros Parantoux’ is 3000 to 3500 bottles.
The vineyard is still legendary, mainly because of Henri Jayer but Rouget also continues to make incredible wines from this piece of land with remarkable minerality and wonderful aging. Since the wine is so rare, it is always busily sought-after by connoisseurs. Another “Grand Vin” is the Echézeaux Grand Cru (1.43 Ha) made from three parcels of the vineyard. Other wines from Rouget include: Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru ‘Les Beaux Monts’ (0.26 hectares), a different plots Vosne-Romanée (totaling 1.20 hectares) and a Nuits-Saint-Georges (0.33 hectares).

GEORGES & CHRISTOPHE ROUMIER
Founded in 1924 by Georges Roumier, the Georges Roumier estate is one of the Côte de Nuits’ most celebrated and sought-after producers. In the 1980s, the current winemaker, Christophe Roumier, took over the helm from his father Jean-Marie. Since then, the domain’s name and fame have reached stratospheric proportions. On nearly 12 hectares of vineyards, Christophe grows the very best pinot noir grapes according to organic principles. Only a small plot (0.2 hectares) in the grand cru Corton Charlemagne is planted with chardonnay. The estate is better known for its reds from Chambolle-Musigny including the rare premier cru ‘les Amoureuses’ and the grand crus Bonnes Mares and Musigny. Christophe received advice from his father, but also from some of his teachers: Henri Jayer and Jacques d’Angerville. They teach him to let nature take its course and take advantage of the wealth at his disposal: older vines in the best appellations. Only indigenous yeasts, which have been present in the estate’s cellars for generations, are used in vinification. The use of new wood is limited to a maximum of 10% for the premier cru’s and 35% for the grand cru’s. Christophe owns 0.1 hectares in the celebrated grand cru Musigny, which produces no more than a few hundred bottles each year. This piece of mythical vineyard has been owned by the estate since 1978 but has been under lease to the Roumier family since the 1920s.

ARMAND ROUSSEAU
This is one of the Burgundy domains with the highest quality on every level. The domain’s vineyards and the level of their wines are simply legendary. Armand Rousseau was a trendsetter as he bottled the wines at his estate back in the 1930s.
Eric, Armand’s grandson, today takes care of both the vineyards and the cellar. He basically grows organically but in some cases uses pesticides that contain chemicals. His daughter Cyrielle started working at the estate in 2014, alongside her father Eric who transfers his knowledge and philosophy to her as much as possible. Domaine Armand Rousseau’s three top wines are: Le Chambertin Grand Cru (2.56 ha), Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru (1.42 ha) and Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru “Clos St.-Jacques” (2.22 ha) and are part of the best wines of Burgundy. The rest of the portfolio today is also of very high quality. The style of Rousseau wine making has not changed much from previous generations.
All the wines come from the Gevrey-Chambertin region, including the Grands Crus Mazis-Chambertin (0.53 Ha), Ruchottes-Chambertin ‘Clos des Ruchottes’ (1.06 Ha) and Charmes Chambertin (1.37 ha), except for the Clos de la Roche Grand Cru (1.48 ha) where the vineyard is located near the village of Morey-Saint-Denis. One hundred percent new oak barrels are used for Chambertin, Chambertin ‘Clos de Bèze’ and for the other Grands Crus. Simply brilliant wines across the board with remarkable depth and longevity.
Ampersand Wine Auctions will hammer some of the most sought-after wines from this estate, including some large formats of the famous Grand Crus.

GENERAL TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE
The public sale of wines and other alcoholic beverages by Ampersand W.A. BV takes place on the terms and conditions listed below. When purchasing at the auction, you are deemed to have read and accepted the terms and conditions below.
Ampersand W.A. BV organizes public sales under the supervision of a bailiff and always and exclusively acts as agent and not as owner, with respect to all goods and wines submitted for sale.
All disputes arising during the sale shall be settled in the last instance by the bailiff.
The Dutch language is the only language of communication valid by law. During the auction, other languages besides Dutch may be spoken.
A. BEFORE THE AUCTION
1. Lot description
Ampersand describes the wines in its catalogs as accurately as possible. An overview of the descriptions and abbreviations used on the website and in the catalogs can be found under the page headed “FAQ”, which is part of the general terms and conditions. The wines offered are selected according to their origin, authenticity, and condition. The lots described in the catalogs are assumed to be indicative and can never be considered binding.
2. Condition
The condition of the lots sold in our auctions can vary greatly due to factors such as age and wear and tear. Their nature means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold “as is,” in the condition they are in at the time of sale, without any representation or warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to condition by Ampersand or by the seller.
Any reference to the condition in a catalog entry will not be a complete description of the condition and the photographs may not clearly depict everything. Colors and stains or damage to labels and capsules may look different in photographs than upon physical inspection.
3. Viewing
If you plan to bid on a lot, it is advisable to inspect the lot either in person or by a knowledgeable representative before bidding. All potential buyers will be given the opportunity to view the offered wines on site. Viewing is possible by appointment only from the moment the online catalog is published, which is approximately 10 days prior to an auction.
4. Estimates
The stated estimates of the value per lot is based on prices achieved at previous auctions for comparable lots. These estimates change over time and do not guarantee the sale price. The estimates indicate the expected range of the hammer price, without commission, VAT, or transportation costs.
5. Catalogs
The catalog is published no later than 10 days prior to an auction. The online catalog contains photographs of all lots. Additional detailed photos will be made for you upon request.
6. Withdrawal
Ampersand W.A. BV may, at its discretion, withdraw any lot at any time prior to or during the sale. Ampersand will not be liable to you for any decision to withdraw lots.
B. REGISTRATION AND PARTICIPATION
Buyers may bid in the hall, in writing, by phone, online and live. It is recommended to choose one bidding method per lot to avoid bidding against yourself.
Buyers must be over 18 years of age to participate.
1. New buyers
Bids will be accepted after verified registration. For admission to the auction, Ampersand W.A. BV will ask for:
• private purchaser: an identification (driving license, national identity card or passport), and proof of residential address (e.g., via a copy of a current utility bill or bank statement)
• business buyers from Belgium: identification and a VAT number
• international business buyers: certificate of incorporation or equivalent documents showing your name and registered address together with documentary proof of directors and beneficial owners.
A purchase limit may be set. In addition, credit card details may be required, or a deposit may be required.
2. Bidding on behalf of another person
The buyer is supposed to act on his own behalf. If after the auction it appears that the purchases should be placed under another legal entity or entities, this does not relieve the ultimate buyer from payment within 7 business days after the auction. However, if the final buyer is not accepted by Ampersand W.A. BV, the intermediary is personally responsible for the purchase.
3. Options of bidding
If you cannot be present in person during the auction, you can use the following options of bidding free of charge.
a. Online pre-auction bidding.
Through our www.ampersandwineauctions.com, the Ampersand Wine Auction app (available in the Apple Store and Google Play Store) and through Drouotdigital (www.drouotdigital.com) platform (at higher commission cost).
b. Written and telephone bids.
You can find a written bid form at the back of our catalog. Written with declaration of the maximum bid and telephone bids by e-mail can be submitted up to 12 hours before the start of the auction. If these time limits are exceeded, Ampersand W.A. BV can no longer guarantee participation in the auction.
84 i the immaculate collection
Written bids must be made in euros, and you will not be notified if overbid. Under the supervision of the bailiff, the auctioneer will act as bidder for you. The auctioneer must work incrementally toward your highest bid (So your winning bid may be lower, certainly not higher). If the “room” bids are over the highest written bid, they will expire. For telephone bids, a staff member will call you at the designated lots to bid for you during the auction.
c. Live online bidding through our own website and Drouot Live.
Through our own website, the Ampersand Wine Auction app (available in the Apple Store and Google Play Store) and through Drouot.
d. Bidding in the auction room.
After registration and identification at the counter, buyers will receive a bid number.
When you leave a bid online or in writing, it is considered a maximum bid.
All bids except those in the auction room will be registered. If because of these registrations Ampersand W.A. BV needs to take responsibility, it will do so.
Only when sufficient capacity is available during the auction is it possible for the team of Ampersand W.A. BV to submit bids on behalf of an absentee client. However, this ‘absentee bid’ is only possible for some lots and the principal must already be known and registered with Ampersand W.A. BV.
4. Bidding on submitted lots
The seller of a lot is not allowed to make bids on his submitted lot.
C. DURING THE AUCTION
1. Who can attend the auction
Ampersand W.A. BV reserves the right to refuse bidders at the auction. Buyers must be over 18 years of age to attend.
2. Reserve Price
Unless otherwise indicated, all lots are subject to a reserve price
3. Auctioneer’s discretion
The order of the catalog will be followed, but the auctioneer of Ampersand W.A. BV reserves the right to combine lots or change the order of lots, to remove lots from the auction and to provide additional or different information about the lots.
It is up to the auctioneer to:
a. refuse a bid
b. change the order of lots
c. withdraw a lot
d. determine the starting bid in the sale
e. reopen or continue the bidding even after the hammer has fallen
f. extend or shorten the bidding time.
In none of these cases shall the bidder have any right of recourse or right to compensation.
4. Bidding
The auctioneer will accept bids from:
a. buyers in the auction room
b. internet bidders through the Ampersand website and Drouot Live
c. written and telephone bids (also called absentee bids).
5. Bid steps
The auctioneer usually calls the lots by auction in increments according to the following table:
€ 0 - 100 € 5
€ 100 - 200 € 10
€ 200 - 800 € 20
€ 800 - 2.000 € 50
€ 2.000 - 4.000 € 100
€ 4.000 - 10.000 € 200
€ 10.000 - ... € 500
6. Other rules in the auction room
In case two or more written bids are the highest bidder, the one who made the bid first will become the owner of the lot. Should two or more persons claim the same lot at the time of allotment or should difficulties of any kind arise during the allotment, the disputed lot will immediately be put back into the auction. The successful bidder will be the highest and last bidder and will become the owner of the lot after payment. Each bid is unconditional and irrevocable.
Any auction participant who causes damage to the lots displayed will be responsible.
D. BUYER’S PREMIUM, VAT AND EXCISE DUTY
1.Buyer’s premium and administrative fee
a. European Buyers.
European private and business buyers pay the hammer price plus a buyer’s commission of 22% (23% via Drouot) and includes 21% non-refundable Belgian VAT.
b. Buyers outside the EU (export)
A private or business buyer outside the EU pays the hammer price plus a buyer’s commission of 18.18% (19.01% via Drouot). This buyer’s commission is free of VAT.
c. Administration fee
For each lot sold, €3 administration fee will be charged to the buyer.
2.VAT
a. Margin lots
These are wines contributed by private individuals. All margin lots are sold without additional VAT. Buyers within the EU pay only the buyer’s commission for these lots (explanation see above).
b. VAT lots
These are wines brought in by a business seller. In addition to the buyer’s commission, VAT is due on these lots.
• Belgian private buyers pay 21% VAT.
• Belgian business buyers pay 21% recoverable VAT
• European private buyers pay the valid VAT rate of their own country
• European business buyers (valid VAT number required) have shifted VAT of 0% with intra-community delivery
• all buyers outside the EU (export) are exempt from VAT
the immaculate collection i 85
3. Customs and excise
International buyers are responsible for payment of excise duties in their home country, according to local rates. European shipments via a transport company to business buyers are required to be accompanied by an e-AD for local customs clearance. The cost for this e-AD is 35 euros excluding VAT and is charged to the buyer. If the European business buyer collects the goods himself, this is not mandatory, this buyer signs a declaration when collecting the goods as proof of intra-community delivery or export.
E. PAYMENT
A pro-forma invoice will be provided by e-mail as soon as possible after the auction.
1. Term
All purchased lots must be paid within 7 business days after the reception of the pro-forma invoice.
2. Currency
All transactions take place in Euro.
3. How to pay
Ampersand Wine Auctions BV only accepts payments from the registered bidder. After issue, we cannot change the buyer’s name on an invoice or reissue the invoice in a different name. The buyer must pay within 7 days after the auction, even if he wants to export the lot and needs an export license.
Following payment methods are possible:
a. Bank transfer (preferred).
Ampersand Wine Auctions BV
IBAN: BE04 7360 6142 6831
Swift/BIC: KREDBEBB
The buyer shall state the (pro-forma) invoice number when transferring.
b. Credit card
Payments by credit card are possible, a secure payment link will be provided by Ampersand. There is an administrative charge of 1.5% for European buyers and 2.5% for non-European buyers on top of the total amount.
4. In case of late payment or non-payment
Ampersand Wine Auctions BV may take measures in case of obstruction of timely payment by buyers. It may:
• refuse bids for a subsequent auction until the invoice of the previous auction has been paid
• set a limit for purchases at the next auction
• require a deposit before bidding can resume. This deposit will be refunded after deduction of any fees on the Monday following the auction and in the event of changes by the buyer to the original instructions within 2 weeks of the auction at the latest
• put the goods up for auction again and claim payment of the difference in proceeds, in which case 6% of the hammer price may be charged as an expense (mourning sale)
• deny access to all subsequent auctions.
5. Transfer ownership to the buyer
If your highest bid is accepted by the auctioneer, you are the buyer of the lot. The striking of the auctioneer’s hammer marks the conclusion of a sales contract between the seller and you (the buyer). However, ownership of the lot is only transferred from the seller
to the buyer once Ampersand W.A. BV has received full and clear payment of the purchase price. The lot will not be released until Ampersand W.A. BV has received full payment.
6. Transfer of risk to the buyer
Immediately after the allotment, each lot sold, kept with the utmost care, is for the account and risk of the buyer and any complaint is excluded. In the event of damage caused by Ampersand W.A. BV personnel to a lot allocated to a buyer (e.g., due to breakage), Ampersand W.A. BV will reimburse the price of the lot (buyer’s commission and administration costs included) to the buyer. Ampersand W.A. BV can never be held responsible if it appears that after or during the auction bottles have leaked or corks have moved.
F. OUR LIABILITY
The goods at auction are sold in the condition in which they are, including any visible or hidden defects. Ampersand W.A. BV is not responsible for defects that it was unable to observe, even if the hidden defect renders the purchase unsuitable for the use for which the buyer had intended the wine, and also not if the defect reduces the use to such an extent that the buyer, had he known about the defects, would not have bought the goods or would only have bought them at a lesser price.
The buyer is deemed to have thoroughly examined the lots as to their nature, nature, genuineness, and condition. If purchases are made without prior examination, including with respect to the description in the catalog, the buyer shall be deemed to have made the purchase at his own risk.
Every potential buyer, bidder or purchaser acknowledges to be aware that, regarding the wines, no right of recourse is possible on account of defects in the merchandise (art. 1649 B.W.), nor on account of detriment (art. 1648 B.W.).
When bids do not reach the auction room because of power-, system- or technical failures, Ampersand W.A. BV does not have to compensate any damage.
In case of damage caused by personnel of Ampersand W.A. BV to a lot allocated to a buyer (e.g., due to breakage), Ampersand W.A. BV will reimburse the price of the lot (buyer’s commission and administration costs included) to the buyer. Ampersand W.A. BV can never be held responsible if it appears that after or during the auction bottles have leaked or corks have moved.
G. COLLECTION AND STORAGE
1. Collection
After the auction, collection is possible on site, by appointment only. Collection of the wines can only take place after receipt of payment. Collection must take place within 21 days after the auction unless otherwise agreed in writing.
2. Storage
Immediately after the allotment, the lots sold belong to the buyer and therefore at his own expense and risk. Until collection/dispatch, Ampersand W.A. BV will store the purchases free of charge in an air-conditioned and insured room. If a lot is not picked up by the buyer within 21 days after the auction, this lot will be kept in storage
86 i the immaculate collection
by Ampersand Wine Auctions at the risk of the buyer. On request, this storage period can be extended to 2 months.
Ampersand W.A. BV facilitates the storage of wines especially for its buyers overseas, in case of long stays abroad and in case of too high or too low temperatures for shipping wine. However, this storage capacity is not unlimited. However, lots are only insured in case of loss or serious damage, Ampersand W.A. BV can never be held responsible if it appears that after the auction or during storage bottles have leaked or corks have moved. Fill levels of wines may diminish over time as cork is a natural product. Ampersand W.A. BV cannot be held responsible for a reduction of fill level during long term storage.
If wines remain in storage for more than 2 months without prior written agreement, Ampersand W.A. BV reserves the right to charge 3% storage costs per month over the hammer price or, in an extreme case, to put the wines up for auction again. In doing so, Ampersand W.A. BV reserves the right to charge 6% of the hammer price on the resale and, if applicable, the cost for a difference in yield. The balance will be paid to the first buyer.
H. TRANSPORT AND INSURANCE
All formalities such as transport, VAT, transport documents and customs obligations remain at the expense and full responsibility of the buyer. The buyer is free in his choice of transport.
1. Transport arranged by Ampersand W.A. BV
As an extra service, Ampersand W.A. BV can organize transport of the purchased goods through internationally recognized carriers. When Ampersand W.A. BV facilitates transport, it offers an all risk insured transport. The cost price for an all risk insured transport depends on the destination and the number of bottles. The buyer only pays the cost price for the shipment and insurance of his purchased goods determined by the recognized carrier, Ampersand W.A. BV does not charge extra costs for organizing the shipment.
If damage (theft or breakage) occurs during all-risk insured transport, Ampersand W.A. BV will settle the damage claim. The all-risk insurance does not cover any damage other than theft and breakage and must be reported to the carrier immediately upon receipt of the goods. The recipient also immediately takes photos as evidence for the insurance.
If the buyer decides to deviate from the all-risk option, the consequences in the event of any damage during transport are entirely the responsibility of the buyer.
2. Transport arranged by the buyer
Buyers can pick up wines themselves by appointment or send their own courier service for pickup. If the buyer arranges their own transport, Ampersand W.A. BV is not responsible for any damage that occurs during transport.
3. Customs documents
Unless otherwise agreed with us in writing, arranging customs documents is entirely the responsibility of the buyer. For European business buyers Ampersand provides a (mandatory) EAD, for this a cost of 35 euro excluding VAT is charged.
4. Proof of export
European buyers who make use of the intra-community VAT scheme may personally collect and transport goods abroad but must prove that their purchases leave Belgium. We will require proof and have them sign a declaration (intra-community destination document).
5. Transport at too high or too low temperatures
Wine may be damaged if transported at too high or too low temperatures. Ampersand W.A. BV reserves the right not to ship wines at temperatures that may cause damage unless the buyer assumes full responsibility in writing.
I. SELLER WARRANTY
For each lot entered, the seller gives the guarantee that he is the owner of the entered lot or co-owner or has the permission to sell the lot for the owner.
The seller bears full responsibility regarding the wines introduced, the authenticity, the correctness of the data and the nature and condition of the wines introduced in the event that a dispute arises after the sale.
Ampersand Wine Auctions (Ampersand W.A. BV) does not take any responsibility regarding authenticity, labels, brands and dates of the bottles. Full responsibility in civil and criminal matters lies with the seller.
