Project Introduction

Started in 2019

1. Main topics:

2. Ecological problems of each school

3. How to solve them ??

4. Help to find a solution

Measurable Objectives

1 Introduction students, school, country

2 Investigation questionnaire

3 Suggestions for all schools

4 Results what can we change and how

Our Erasmus+ project will help our schools to change the environmental thinking and behaviour of people. We want to show the ecological way of thinking about

a) Consumption, waste and recycling: paper, glass, plastic and microplastic, biodegradable waste, electronic waste, clothing

b) Pollution and climate change: Energy, agriculture/nutrition, traffic, climate and weather phenomena

c) The conscious use of resources at school and at home: shopping and consumption habits

The students as well as the teachers will carry out learning activites in which they find out aboutsuitable projectsdealingwithsustainable livestyles andenvironmental protectionin the different partner countries. They will also visit eco friendly companies in the area in order to learn from them about how to develop environmentally friendly concepts.

For two years we want to change our minds into a more ecological way of thinking and help our students to save our planet by changing in small steps in our schools and homes. We altogether can help to change the the behaviour of our families and friends

We want to change - our habits - our school - our community

Teachers Meeting

In Sweden, the teachers carried out three learning activities/visitstolocalactors in Sweden, which gave them an insight into how teaching environmental issues, recycling and waste and energy is dealt with in Sweden.Teachersvisited:

1. A workshop on teaching about sustainable development at the Naturskolan,Velamsund,

2. Henriksdal Upgrading Plant with a presentation by Scandinavian Biogas FuelsAB

3. the Älta recycling centre with a presentation by Nacka Vatten och Avfall AB.

Furthermore, teachersvisited classes at Nacka Gymnasium with a focus on lesson observations and presentation of a digital resource for the teaching of ecologicalconcepts.

Online Meetings

- 2021

Regular teachers‘ and student meetings

Despite the difficult Corona situation, closed schools, distance learning and lockdowns in all partner countries, work on the Erasmus + project Climate Change and Environmental Protection in a European Context continued promisingly

Pupils' interest was unexpectedly high

During the year, students studied the background and possibilities of environmental protection, looked for tools to improve the climate, and monitored the impact of lockdowns on the state of the planet

Students were divided into 8 international groups, which were preparing for online meetings through Google Meet

Students (and teachers) created their „business cards“ on the common Flipgrid platform and suggested a name for their groups. The group leader the teacher then invited the group to an online meeting in May 2021. Some of the groups managed to meet twice.

During the meeting

1. a guided visit to the CRAM (Marine Animal Recovery Center),

2. a walk around the protected area of the Llobregat Delta,

3. a guided visit to the Planta de Triatge de Gavà(aplastics recycling plant)

4. a guided visit to sustainable buildings in Barcelona were carried out.

5. Furthermore, the participating teachers of 6 countries visited the partner school in Barcelona to get an insight into environmental protection at the partner school and how this problem is dealt with in the lessons as well.

Final Student Conference Bottrop

2022 - May

On the first day there was a presentation of each school, the students themselves and some games were carried out to get to know each other face to face because due to the Corona pandemic it was actually the first physical meeting for the students.

During the project work in international groups (one student from each country per group), each group dealt with the environmental problems of one school and looked for very specific solutions to improve the situation in the respective country, so that international teamwork was particularly important.

In the afternoon, after the project work, the surroundings of Bottrop were explored together with a focus on environmental issues:

1. climbing the heaps which are left from former coal mining that are so typical for the Ruhr area

2. a visit to the Centro Oberhausen (a former steel factory area) with the environmental exhibition “The Fragile Paradise” in the "Gasometer", another symbol of the former industrial history which has been transformed into an area of recreation.

On the last day of the meeting, the presentation of the results took place:

The main environmental problem of each partner school was solved by the international groups with a bundle of very specific measures and proposals for financing.

There are 6 presentations 6 solved problems of our 6 partner schools

Bilateral Student Conference Karlovy Vary

2022 - June

Originally, the conference was meant to be carried out earlier, in March of 2022, as a trilateral conference with the participation of German students as well. However, due to the Corona pandemic wave earlier in the year and the early ending of the school year in North Rhine Westphalia in June of 2022, the German teachers and students were not able to participate. The meeting of three countries became the bilateral meeting in Karlovy Vary. Dear German friends, we missed you there.

On the first day there was a friendly welcome and meeting of the groups of students from Czech Republic and Slovakia. After a short sightseeing tour around the school thestudentsandteachersstartedto work in international groups, each group on another task:

The first group gathered and worked on a summary of the environmental problems of the schools and specific solutions to improve the situation in the respective country.

The second group worked on a summary of the project ideas and partners.

The third group collected the results of the online meetings and the large student meeting in Bottrop.

The fourth group prepared a poster and shortfilmaboutbothBottropandKarlovy Vary student meeting and the final presentation gathering all three presentations into one result.

Some students decided to make a film about there Erasmus experiences and make a brochure.

The students enjoyed the meeting in Karlovy Vary and missed the German friends very much.

18

Other activities:

In the afternoon, after the project work, the surroundings of Karlovy Vary were explored together with a focus on environmental issues.

Therefore, climbing the Diana sightseeing tower withthe viewofthe whole area withits hot water springs and uranium deposits was on the programme as well as the visit to the Jachymov Uranium mine and the Karlovy Vary Museum.

The area is very special due to being a tectonically active region with over 80 springs. The hottest of the springs can approach 74°C, while the coldest have temperatures under 40 degrees. All of the springs combined provide roughly 2,000 litres of water every minute.

In 2021, the city became a transnational UNESCOWorldHeritage Siteunder the name "Great Spa Towns of Europe" because of its spas and architecture from the 18th to 20th centuries.

On the last day of the meeting, the presentation of the results took place: The three presentations about our three year work were presented and gathered into one common one which will be transformed into an interactive summary presentation for the website. A short film about the meeting in Bottrop was presented and photos for the short film about the Karlovy Vary meeting were collected.

These results were presented to the school community in Karlovy Vary and and will be incorporated into the other partner schools as well: They will be presented to the student councils and the the respective school management so that the plans for environmetal protection can be implemented after the students have returned to their schools.

The Czech and Slovakian students and teachers, however, have profited from the conference in numerous ways:

First of all they have seen the Czech partner school and city under environmental aspects: They have visited the world famous spa Karlovy Vary transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site "Great Spa Towns of Europe".TheyhavevisitedtheJachymov

Uranium Mine a place with a negative history where political prisoners seen as dangerous by the communist regime worked. Many perished due to the hard work in a radioactive environment. Now the radon baths in Jachymov treat patients from all over the world.

In addition, the conference fulfilled the purpose of reviewing all the results and putting them together into some final documents and films: Especially the results ofthelargestudentconferencein Bottropwere reviewedandputtogether into a summary showing also all the nice moments of the students' three year work.Alltheseresultswillbepublishedon the project website.
