Beijing Nanluoguxiang (NLGX) Performing Arts Festival, initiated and hosted by the first independent theatre in Beijing—Penghao Theatre in 2010, is an annual international performing arts festival that takes place in Beijing between May and July. Over the past 5 years, NLGX has received about 140.000 audience members/participants, and hosted 131 plays (325 performances) from 9 countries, 30 workshops, 23 lectures, and 4 conferences. The festival embraced a variety of performances including stage plays, outdoor performances, physical and experimental theatre, traditional opera, and dance theatre. NLGX is open, reflexive and critical; it celebrates the undefined and hopes to carry on the festival as the essence of Penghao’s work: a platform for cross cultural dialog that inspires deeper understanding of our time and society through the performing arts.
