the bathroom proposal for rittenhouse park took into consideration the natural context amidst an urban jungle, and meant to blend into the environment.

the project responds to the need for a public restroom and shower in rittenhouse park. in order to achieve this, the facility must be open for all to access freely. an inviting circulation into the space allows for privacy as well as continuity.

materiality was selected as to relate to its context. wood-like cladding on the partition wall creates a camouflage effect. for protection against the elements, alternative materials, such as trex, would be used on the exposed facades. the space becomes more translucent towards the entrances as bamboo columns which guide your path towards the main trails in the park. the roof structure would include apertures as to allow light and airflow into the shaded space, and to not impose on the existing trees on site, allowing them room to grow and sway. the intent is to imply an organic relationship between nature and architecture.

situated between rodman and south streets, a multi-purpose row home project was proposed under the premise of creating a space to both work and live for two families. in early programmatic stages, a division between the two homes and work places created a central courtyard which allowed to additional light and exterior spaces for both homes.

unidentical elevations were a direct response to the conditions of both rodman and south. one being notably more residential, as the latter is considered a commercial zone. the program additionally responds to these factors, as one houses pyschologists office, demanding more privacy, and the other a bustling event planning firm that benefits from the public eye of busy south street. as outdoor space is in high demand, the decision to split the two homes horizontally instead of vertically provides space for a shared courtyard and private decks.

c y r s t a l l i n e an urban design project based of the roman context was proposed to create a connection to the cyrpta balbi museum. the entrance and facade of the existing museum is retired and muted, making access undesirable. the project narrative was to create a sister museum to act as a modern urban icon for the ancient crypta balbi. the site was located on remains of the temple of the nymphs. as a group, the purpose was to act as both a passage on the street level, as well as a public experience on the archaeological level.

at the intersection of 9th and spring garden, alongside the proposed rail park, is the proposal for an artists studio. the program required studio spaces for four creative disciplines to house a fellowship program. the design would also incorporate living quarters and public realm with galleries and lecture halls. in distributing the functions, neighborhoods were created in form, reiterated by a slice out of the center to physically separate work space from residential, yet allow for visual interaction and serve as a light well for both spaces.

light was a major factor from research of similar studio spaces in both hindering or accelerating work flow. in order to create a space which could serve for multiple lighting conditions, operational panels are proposed as a skin on the exterior glass. the panels materiality is a corten steel texture to correspond to philadelphia’s industrial past, with white interior coating to reflect light from the northern sun back into the spaces.

amira is a graduate student at temple university studying architecture design. she has an excellent academic rapport and is heavily involved in leadership positions within the university. with professional aspirations in urban design, mutli-use functions and community planning, amira designs having collaboration in mind. her thinking and style reflects the innovation, and creativity, necessary in our modern world. living in philadelphia has further solidified these interests, and provides the perfect atmosphere for the young architect to flourish. amira has a background in art and music. as a talented singer, she has adapted her performance skills into architecture and design, allowing her presentation and charisma to flourish. being an artist, she is able to swiftly connect emotion into architecture. on track to graduate with two degrees in 2020, amira will continue to grow and develop into her professional career with integrity and ambition.
