Personal Reflection

The sphere was hard to drop shadows for. I didn’t know where to put the point on the ground that complements the one on the sphere to project it.

FEEDBACK • The background is not smoothly painted • No prominent contrast between foreground and background • Absence of highlights 5

Personal Reflection I filled in the shadow parts with one value of markers and the dropped shadows on the ground with another value. I made this before painting in watercolor so it the shadow parts take the color painted on it, as watercolor is a transparent media.

I am disappointed I scored low in the actual architectural work. I need to work more on it.

I enjoyed using this technique. I think I should have added more shadows and rendered the palms in a more detailed way. I liked the effect of watercolor mixed with ink.

The End result

Personal Reflection The idea was to imagine El-Tahrir Square in the future. I picked it specifically as it is the place that we recall when we speak about Cairo, so it is titled “Tonight @ Future Cairo”. The style looks like New York and Tokyo, and I like this retro style of coloring. Most elements have a meaning. The various kinds of hands symbolize the variety of people who live and work in Tahrir. The planes show wealth, which means wealthy people will come for the new Tahrir Hotel. An advertisement says a mobile phone made in Egypt has an offer of 1k USD, which equals 500 EGP, hoping that Egypt’s economy will get better. The monorail is finished, and the RHS is not yet, which suggests that this is the near future. I also added my own architecture office in a building, which, I hope, is my future.
