This publication serves as a jubilant tribute to the diverse, talented, and dedicated members of Area 17— a collective of individuals who elevate our Toastmasters community to extraordinary heights.

From Elite Toastmasters and Galaxy Toastmasters, open to all, to DPS Monarch catering specifically to educators and Qatar Mothers Toastmasters for women, each club adds its unique hue to the vibrant spectrum of our shared journey. As the storyteller, I am privileged to blend these distinct colors into the beautiful tapestry of our collective narrative.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to Toastmaster Priya Shembekar, our remarkable Area 17 Director, for entrusting me with this editorial role. Tm Priya, your belief in the power of stories from members of Area17 is inspiring, and I am excited to bring your vision to life.

“Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success." – Unknown It gives me immense pleasure to pen my thoughts as District Club Growth Director to an Area Newsletter of an Area with amazing Team of dedicated leaders who have divided their tasks and in the process of multiplying them… Area 17 is one of the Areas with unique clubs like all mothers club, educators club and community clubs. All the clubs are striving its best to achieve the club mission and goals. Kudos to all the wonderful club leaders and members. I see this newsletter as a novel initiative to inspire club leaders and members to flourish in their toastmasters’ journey.

I take this opportunity to appreciate the efforts of Area Director TM Priya Shembekar in supporting the clubs with her visits and motivations through conducting Moments of Truth and educational modules. Though she took charge of the Area, just a month ago as Area Director, the extra miles she has walked through in a most required situation, speaks volume of her dedication and commitment as a leader. As you all know learning is a continuous process and never be tired of learning. We have joined toastmasters to improve our communication and leadership skills. All the 11 paths in pathways program helps you to explore new skills, execute and expertise in that field.

It also enhances your creativity and elevate you next level. In this process you learn many new things and excel.

While learning new things we get an opportunity to prove our individuality. When we face challenges, when a task is given in front of us, we automatically encounter it with courage. Age is not a limit and in toastmaster irrespective of your age, if you have passion to learn you can do so.Your passion, your knowledge, your adaptability will take you to places. Universe will identify your wisdom and potential and give you many opportunities to grow.

Necessity is the mother of invention, and your education will help you to face the difficulties and assist you to invent new things. New inventions can arise only when you have enough knowledge to try. So, to try anything new. Keep learning and never stop learning. Show enthusiasm in learning new things each day, each hour, each minute and each second. Your passion and enthusiasm to learn will encourage you to grow one step at a time.

Say it in your personal, professional or toastmaster life, to have a continuous growth never stop learning. Whatever hurdles come to stop your growth you can overcome that with your extensive knowledge. So, have a passion for learning. If you do so you will be keep growing.

A TOAST TO EXCELLENCE IN AREA 17 TOASTMASTERS Dear Toastmasters of Area 17, As we stand on the cusp of a new year, it's a time for reflection, renewal, and setting intentions. As your Past Area 17 Director, I propose a collective resolution for the upcoming year—a pledge to elevate our Toastmasters experience, foster growth, and fortify the foundation of our clubs. Let's embark on a journey of continuous improvement, solidarity, and shared success.

1. Increasing Membership: Our first resolution is to welcome more members into the Toastmasters family. Let's actively promote our clubs—Elite Toastmasters, Galaxy Toastmasters, DPS Monarch Educators Toastmasters, and Qatar Mother Toastmasters —and encourage prospective members to embark on a transformative journey with us.

Reach out to friends, colleagues, and acquaintances, showcasing the immense value that Toastmasters adds to personal and professional development.

2. Support and Mentorship: To strengthen our community, let's make a commitment to mentorship. As seasoned Toastmasters, let's extend our hands to guide and support newcomers. Taking on mentorship roles will not only enrich the experience of new members but will also contribute to a thriving and supportive environment within our clubs.

Yoga A way of life & a Tool for transformation In today’s fast and ever-changing world maintaining good health is of paramount importance and Yoga act as a best tool to achieve that objective Yoga is a Sanskrit word and it stands for union and is commonly referred as a group of physical, mental and spiritual practices or disciplines, that originated from ancient India.

Purpose of Yoga • Improvement of Physical Health • Development of Mental Health • Enhancement of Social Health • Improvement of Spiritual Health • Self-Realization Yoga Techniques Yoga techniques are mainly categorized in to three: Asanas or physical postures Pranayama or Breathing techniques Dhyana or Meditation

Evolution of yoga Gurus or Teachers from India introduced yoga to the west following the success of Swami Vivekananda in late 19th and early 20th century.

During 1980’s , yoga became popular as a system of physical exercise across the western world and now it forms an important part of the physical education syllabus in the schools and colleges there.

Following its inception in the UN General Assembly in the year 2014, The international Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on June 21 .

Yoga is popular in more than 100 countries as of now.

Some of the Basic yogasanas or postures.

1) Surya Namaskar or Sun Salutation It is a combination of 12 types of asanas and pranayamas practiced in the early morning as salutation to SUN. It is one of the most popular practice in Yoga and a regular practice of the same will provide almost all the benefits of yoga mentioned above.

It acts as a panacea against all the life style diseases.

2) Head Stand or Sirsasana -it is known as king of asanas Here the practitioner s standing on his head.

It is instrumental in improving the cardio vascular fitness It enhances the lung capacity It stimulates and strengthens abdominal organs It builds core strength

3) Shoulder stand or Sarvangasana- It is known as queen of asanas Here the practitioner s standing on his shoulder. It is known as Queen of the asanas or shoulder stand It calms the brain It stretches the shoulders and neck It tones legs and buttocks This asana reduces all sorts of ENT problems including thyroid related issues.

Empowering Adolescents

A roadmap for Parental Guidance

Parenting a teenager is akin to preparing them for a journey with an unpredictable map. As both an educator and the mother of young adolescents, I draw inspiration from Robert Frost's wisdom, 'I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.' Guiding students and parents through the less-traveled path of adolescence, I share insights and advice cultivated from years of experience, emphasizing the importance of communication, understanding, and establishing a foundation for academic and emotional success. Adolescence is marked by rapid physical and emotional changes, necessitating parents to grasp and empathize with their teenagers' unique challenges. Successful navigation hinges on open and nonjudgmental communication.

Recognizing the significant changes teenagers undergo, both physically and hormonally, is pivotal.

As an educator, I advise parents to acknowledge and validate the feelings arising during this selfdiscovery period, including mood swings, increased independence, and a desire for peer acceptance. Building trust through active listening and genuine interest fosters a robust parent-teen bond.

While fostering independence is crucial, setting clear and reasonable boundaries is equally important.

Parents should communicate these boundaries clearly and involve children in decision-making processes, ensuring a balance between autonomy and guidance.

Educators stress the importance of teaching decision-making skills to empower children in family discussions, preparing them for adulthood. Peer pressure is a common concern, and parents play a vital role in guiding teenagers through social dynamics.

Encouraging open conversations about peer relationships and fostering positive friendships contributes to their growth and self-esteem.

Monitoring emotional well-being is emphasized, with educators stressing the importance of creating a supportive environment where teenagers feel comfortable discussing their feelings.

In severe cases, seeking professional help is crucial, highlighting the priority of mental health.

Supporting exploration of hobbies and interests is a key aspect of fostering purpose.

Parents should actively encourage passions, providing a constructive outlet and reinforcing support for individuality.

Modeling healthy behavior is highlighted as a powerful influence, shaping their understanding of healthy relationships and responsible decision-making. Transitioning to the academic realm, parents are advised to be attuned to the pressures and expectations this age group faces. It is highly advised to promote a balanced approach, emphasizing personal growth, resilience, and learning from failures rather than fixating solely on grades or achievements.

Parents are encouraged to engage in open conversations about aspirations and challenges, offering emotional support and helping set realistic expectations. Avoiding unrealistic expectations is crucial; understanding their unique strengths and interests contributes to a healthier environment that nurtures intrinsic motivation. Instilling the understanding that mistakes are part of the learning process is crucial.

Cultivating a growth mindset, valuing effort and resilience, helps alleviate the pressure associated with performance.

Parents, as key influencers, play a crucial role in nurturing their teenager's overall well-being and promoting a healthy approach to challenges.

Ripples of Change

In the bustling city of Qatar, a silent revolution is underway—one that seeks to empower women, amplify their voices, and cultivate a community of confident communicators. At the heart of this movement lies the Qatar Mothers Toastmasters, a unique platform dedicated to fostering communication, leadership, and networking skills among women from all walks of life.

When I embarked on my journey with Toastmasters, I never doubted my confidence, but I recognized the potential for improvement in my communication skills. Little did I know that assuming leadership roles and engaging in behindthe-scenes work in public relations and design would lead to a transformative learning experience—one that I believe every woman in Qatar deserves.

Our mission at Qatar Mothers Toastmasters is clear: to create a safe space where shy and less confident women can emerge from their shells, while providing a platform for already confident women to shine and build their personal brands. To turn this mission into a reality, the unwavering support of each member has been crucial.

We began by focusing on the goal of offering a platform for women to shine.

Inviting subject matter experts to deliver keynote speeches at our meetings has been an instrumental step in the direction of growth. This not only offers them a platform but also allows them to witness the transformative benefits of the Toastmasters community.

The guests who have supported us so far as key note speakers and panelists have been amazed at the potential opportunities Toastmasters offers, while our members and guests had the pleasure of listening and learning from them.

Our ultimate goal is to reach women who may be hesitant to step into the world of public speaking. We at Qatar Mothers Toastmasters hope to use your club to offer training sessions or workshops in areas such as communication, presentation skills, PowerPoint, graphic design, parenting, personal well-being, photography, and financial literacy to cater to the diverse interests of women seeking skill enhancement.

Contests in public speaking, writing, design, or photography can further provide avenues for expression and growth. Through these initiatives we hope to eventually expand our work and reach the wider community of women in Qatar.

These initiatives are just the beginning of how Qatar Mothers Toastmasters aims to amplify the voices of women in Qatar. By offering a platform for women to develop communication skills, gain confidence, and build supportive networks, we aim to create a ripple effect that empowers them to pursue their dreams. We are aiming high to be the catalyst for change, illuminating the path for women to step out of their comfort zones, embrace their potential, and make their voices heard.

In the words of Helen Keller, "Alone, we can do so little; together, we can do so much."

Qatar Mothers Toastmasters invites every woman to join hands in this journey of empowerment. Together, let's create a legacy of confident communicators who shape the future of Qatar—one empowered woman at a time.

Greetings Toastmasters and fellow speakers, Allow me to share with you the exhilarating journey that led me to Galaxy Toastmasters, where my passion for public speaking intertwined with the guidance and mentorship of TM Murali, catalyzing my evolution into a humorous speaker. It all began with a single Table Topic speech as a guest at Galaxy Toastmasters. TM Murali's encouraging words ignited a spark within me when he remarked, "You are a good speaker." Little did I know, that seemingly small moment would shape my trajectory in the world of speaking. Taking the plunge into delivering my Ice Breaker speech, TM Murali detected a flair for humor in my words and gestures. His keen insight and support didn't stop at mere compliments; he urged me to explore the realm of humorous speeches, nudging me gently towards my latent comedic potential. Under his unwavering guidance and mentorship, I ventured into the realm of humordriven speeches. With every step, TM Murali was there, offering valuable advice, refining my style, and nurturing my confidence. His belief in my abilities acted as a driving force, propelling me forward even when doubt loomed large.

The culmination of this collaborative effort was nothing short of astounding. Triumph echoed my path as I clinched the title of Humorous Champion at Qatar Talks, a victory that filled my heart with joy and gratitude. But the journey didn't end there. Stepping onto the District stage, I stood tall as I secured the second position. A defining moment awaited as I became the inaugural champion of the Tall Tales contest in Qatar, etching my name in history as the first-ever victor.

This journey has been more than just a series of wins; it has been a testament to the power of mentorship, guidance, and the nurturing environment fostered by Galaxy Toastmasters. TM Murali's mentorship not only refined my speaking abilities but also instilled in me the courage to push boundaries and embrace the art of humor fearlessly. As I stand here, reminiscing about this transformative journey, I am filled with gratitude for the support and encouragement extended

by TM Murali and the Galaxy Toastmasters family. Together, we've not just celebrated victories but also forged a bond that transcends accolades, creating memories that will forever embellish the chapters of my life.
