THE JEWISH MUSEUM OF PRAGUE Prague, Czech Republic Final Design Studio | Prof. Domenico Chizzoniti

The theme proposed covers on rehabilitation of the area around Klaster Sv Anezky, founded in 1234, currently the museum of Czech painting and sculpture. The program includes the project of a museum, articulated through the return of the typological structure of the cloistered convent, in support of existing exhibition, and deployment of a new structure for the Ghetto Memorial Museum of the ancient city. The museum will be considered as a part of the city texture and intersection point of the Jewish quarter with the rest of the city. It includes an oriented public axis inside, between the axis coming from Old Town Square and river side which guides you to public space at the connection point with St. Agnes. Spatial composition of the spaces are organized around two intersected axes. The Jewish museum of Prague will be a numinous experience of coexisting spaces. This will be provided with a series of visual experience created by the architecture. Walls will create movement through the museum space, the sequence of exhibition spaces, thresholds and atmospheres of spaces encountered through movement that will prepare visitors to transition from one space to the next adding the architectural interest. These wall structures will create a feeling of different sense of harmony in the museum space. A series of voids within the main volume for light to penetrate to the lower levels to bring visual connectivity between the voids spaces. In another part of the museum we want to create a dark underground space and tight spaces just to remind that rituals do exist to hold and mediate the direct experience of the numinous. It will be an immersive experience from the moment you enter the dark space in the exhibition hall and after this we want to brighten spaces by opening lights from the sky. In the middle part of the museum connection is achieved with a courtyard and more open space that can act as a gathering place for the people to make spaces more interactive and lively. Concrete will be used with different textures and brightness to create coexisting effects between warm, neutral and cool spaces to communicate the museum experience. It will follow the restricted materials pallet following concrete, glass, cool and warm timbers.

PRIMARY SCHOOL TOLOSI Podgorica, Montenegro Competition project | Ministry of sustainable development and tourism of Montenegro

Having in consideration Constitution of Montenegro which guarantees to a child all rights and freedom, compatible to an age and maturity, as every child achieves right at education under equal circumstances, it represented basic and starting idea for development of this conceptual architectonic soultion. By further examination and research of a given problem which regarded purpose as well as location for the future facility of elementary school, it induced even further investigation and systematic reviews with the goal of reaching most optimal solution. There are three main aspects that were determined by the given thematics as well as analytics that the project is based upon. The first aspect is an acquisition of the relevant material that is affecting on the conceptual solution in a derisive manner. The second aspect was the most important one, which provided qualitative team work, for every information/material is provided quality and quantity critique (positive and negative) of sources themselves. And third aspect is architectural vision that is incorporated in the analysis, selection and construction of the given conceptual solution. The concept of the primary school solution in Tolosi was derived from the analyzes of current state of the site, the energy efficiency of the facilities and the green fund plan with detailed tree analysis. Greenery in the city and its surroundings is of particular importance because plants, by their shape, structure and life characteristics, are indispensable elements of nature. By preserving and improving the environment, connecting the school building with the surrounding landscape contributes to the improvement of ecological indicators and enhances the environment, creating a more comfortable and humanity urban environment.Plots that are predicted for the construction of gymnasium and school are consolidated for the purpose of better possibilities for qualitative architectural solution of the complex of the elementary school. The school itself adapts and forms unique functional entirety. The existing diagonal avenue was itself the definition of positioning the entrance of the school. The school complex has been used in detail by landscaping of free surfaces. Free park areas were used to form the playgrounds for spots as well as summer classrooms surrounded by greenery.

VILLA ‘M’ Podgorica, Montenegro AIM Studio | In construction Surrounded by intact nature, 20 kilometers away from the city center, the carefully designed house will offer a functional space facing nature. With a beautiful view of the mountain ranges and vineyards, villa features contrasting horizontal units anchored between cliffs, thus merging with the rural environment, but at the same time showing a modern architectural expression. Juxtaposing rugged natural features with bold modern forms could highlight the qualities of both. Its large terrace offers an incredible view tens of kilometers away. It is oriented to the south and glazed with the possibility of opening all glass surfaces that allow complete openness to nature. Massive windows and wood-paneled in interior additionally invite nature inside and create a bright and pleasant ambience to relax moments and escape from hectic everyday life. The interior is dominated by a combination of wood and stone that gives the house a modern and rustic look at the same time. The interior space is open and consists of several connected functional zones. On the ground floor there is a kitchen and dining room sharing the same wide space as the large living room where you can relax and enjoy the beautiful view. There is also a multifunctional space for a gym and a flexible playroom for children. In the another part of the house is a sleeping block completely oriented towards the horizon, offering a view of the mountain ranges. The house is equipped with custom-made furniture with materials originating from this area.

ROOSEVELT ISLAND New York, United States of America Thematic Design Studio | prof. Francesco Leoni Roosevelt Island is an ambiguous island with an unclear urban purpose beyond being a place that is difficult to reach from and to Manhattan what it has turned out as peaceful area. Its tranquillity is only disrupted during the spring weekends when New Yorkers go to spend a day outdoors. Its ambiguous essence has become Roosevelt Island in a park where you can go to see the sunset over midtown Manhattan, visit the monument of Louis Kahn to Franklin D. Roosevelt, see the cherry blossom during spring or making a barbeque on its northern area. The main idea of the master plan is the central connectivity to have a clear focal point to the museum spaces and the composition of eight porous monoliths shaped by physical connections, visibility, and micro climate, creating the optimal conditions for leisure apartments and urban life within the island. Stairs and platforms steeps down towards the water where the profile of design is shaped and septated private from public spaces. The structure of the buildings is oriented in such a way to have a maximum view from the all other directions of the island, the planning of the leisure apartment is extended according to the Manhattan alignment and in some part of the island the water has retracted inside the piazza to create some unique features within the boundary. This enhances the timeless architecture and the subtle colours, evolving into the structure. The fundamental approach is to the existing smallpox hospital building is to maintain the experience of the spaces as a ruin. Its most appropriate to preserve the ruinness by minimizing the occupancy, and maximizing the emptiness to provide more opportunities to the visitors to reinterpret the spaces inside the museum shell and the stabilization of structures. All levels of the ruin will be free of specific programs and it should be fully experienced by the visitors walking and viewing through the new addition of the building with the old structure. And the main element of the museum will be the ramp part, which is a kind of path that follows the original hallways of the hospital that will guide the visitors to walk through and around the rooms with different exhibition spaces.

MESA | INSIDE OUT Latina, Italy A new life for the logistic centre of the 18th century reclamation | Prof Christina Pallini

The project deals with different scales. The idea of the Mesa is inside-out it is because of needs to keep together the matrix of the reclamation, the distance between the drain and the subunits of reclamation with the character of the multifunctional building. It is still standing in a very poor state because it has been abandoned. It had different stages of uses but now it is very big and it is decayed. Our project is accessing two facts to renew this building. It has to clarify the relationship of this building with the surrounding area. This is where the matrix of reclamation, meaning that we are trying to make it readable in the area surrounding the building and the other strategy is to understand the different function of the building. The building is symetrical and also multifunctional, actually it works in the system of an independent unit. The fact that this building is set at the centre of reclamation and within in the anatomy of the building is in the way its structured and how starting from there we could think about new possible usage. The key element even in a small portion of a Appiyan way for which we can still have other presences dating back to the different movement like the Appiyan way built at the time of Roman and rebuilt at the time of reclamation by Pope. The mausoleum of Clesippo Geganio which is particular for us like indication of importance of the site because it is well known that when you are leaving Rome along the Appiyan Way you can find a lot of monuments but it is also interesting to see that this pattern is repeated in a part of the Appiyan Way and even in Terracina. Architectural solution for the building attitude is not meant to express or represent an exceptional case justifying some original manifesto, but rather to abide by a rule of architecture, more or less unchanging throughout time.

REUSE OF THE PSICOSOCIAL CENTER Legnano, Italy Architectual Preservation Studio | Prof. Nora Lombardini

The Colonia Elioterapica in Legnano is one of the most important examples of Italian Modern Architecture. The building was designed by BBPR in 1838 and it was the only Italian building that was published in La nouvelle architecture by A. Roth. This inter-war building provided sun treatment, THE BRIDGE HOUSE gymnastics and games under medical supervision for hundred under privileged and under nourished children of working parents from Legnano. In this architecture the young boys and girls were also training to become good fascists. MONTENEGRO PAVILION | EXPO2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates Construction and Sustnability Design Studio | prof. Paolleti Ingrid

In the framework of Expo Dubai 2020 theme“Connecting minds, creating the future the most obvious situation we could think about was social life and social interaction. This is not only the largest kind of aggregation dynamic but it is also the most universally shared by every culture in the world. This idea led our research on Montenegros traditions and culture where we discovered the element which is central to the pavilion: the gumno. The gumno is a small round structure with low walls that can be used for seating and it shares some similarities with the Italian piazza or the Spanish plaza, though on a smaller scale. The gumno is first mentioned in writings more than 300 years ago. At that time, houses were small and not an ideal place for families to gather, community needed a shared space. The Montenegrin reality is that it represents a place of gathering. It is a symbol of community and a hope for healthy, restored relationships. Our main goal was to design our structure in synergy with its function and with the aesthetic of what it represents. This thought guided us to the solution of recreating a stylized landscape which would recall in the visitors mind the diversified territory of Montenegro. We conceived the structure of the roof as a mountain range, finding inspiration in S. Calatravas architecture. The rooftop element, which is so important and noticeable, will not only have an aesthetic function, but, by creating the desired effect using vertical panels we will be able to generate enough shade on the roof to protect the pavilion from direct sunlight, also this structure will help in hiding the solar panels. As for the main building, we conceived a mainly closed vertical structure, covered in a continuous mirroring panel: this will simulate the water element as well as creating an effect of open space in the inside of the pavilion, where it will reflect the central element of the gumno which will be framed in a landscaped floor with small waterways that will be used as guides for the path that has been thought for visitors.

URBAN MODERN APARTMENT Podgorica, Montenegro Interior project | Concept design The tenants dreamt of a spacious and full of light apartment that would provide an accurate response to their needs. The guidelines were to create a modern and minimalist design that balances beauty and functionality. This modern urban apartment is 120 m² in size and includes a living room, kitchen, dining area, balcony, 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms and small storage room. Before the renovation the apartment was not functionally well organised, with many superfluous details that disturbed the fluid movements. The building is decade old and the apartment had never been renovated before. The living room is in the center of the public space and is furnished in modern lines and durable and practical materials – a gray sofa, a black wooden table with metal legs, and a carpet that defines the living room. The linear horizontal piece of furniture is used by the living room as a storage together with marble panel that combines the television, and all the audio systems. From the living room you can go out to the closed balcony which is separated by window in aluminum frame. The kitchen was designed to allow eye contact with the entire living room, with a counter surrounded by a granite frame; which also serves for storage of wine and dining utensils. Clean lines, linear and symmetrical placements throughout, a simple color scheme, and because of kitchen is exposed to the dining and living room a sleek white color so it blends into the background.
