Amigos de las Américas
Dear Amigos,
International Board Members As of January 2011
Thank you for making 2010 such a great year for Amigos de las Américas. All of our accomplishments stem from the fact that we are an organization that is led, influenced, and supported by a network of chapters, Volunteers, alumni, parents, and donors. Fulfilling our mission of youth leadership development, community impact, and international relations is an ambitious one that can only be accomplished as the result of a collective enterprise. Neither bottom-up nor top-down describes the leadership style of AMIGOS. It truly is an organization that both values and relies on the passion, commitment, knowledge, and financial contributions of many people. Strong organizations develop their leaders and plan for succession, and the strength of the AMIGOS network set the backdrop to a successful CEO transition last year. Emily Untermeyer left AMIGOS to pursue the next chapter in her career and is now the Country Director for Peace Corps in Honduras. A task force comprised of Board and chapter leaders coordinated an executive search that led to the hiring of Marty Sinnott as the new CEO of AMIGOS. This year also marked the conclusion of Clyde Layne’s tenure as Board Chair and the beginning of Mary Stelletello’s term. A few highlights of this year’s major accomplishments:

AMIGOS has been a “networked” organization for 46 years. Before the internet and Facebook we had ham radio operators communicating with our projects in Central America. The world continues to change rather quickly. Thanks to your support, AMIGOS will continue to be a powerful influencer of that change in the lives of our Volunteers and communities in the U.S. and in Latin America.
