Superbowl Sunday marked by two crashes near Osceola BY SUZANNE LINDGREN EDITOR@OSCEOLASUN.COM

Two serious collisions occurred within hours of one another last Sunday, the first on Highway 243 and the second on State Highway 35 between Osceola and Dresser. Despite dry road conditions, a Mercury Milan westbound on Highway 243 hit the westbound guardrail shortly after crossing the Osceola Bridge at about 4:30 Sunday afternoon. The driver, 25-year-old Danielle Lindquist of Hastings, Minn., reportedly overcorrected and traveled into the

eastbound traffic lane, colliding head on with an eastbound Dodge Ram pickup truck, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The truck then struck the eastbound guardrail, went over the guardrail and rolled down the hill, stopping just short of icy marsh waters. The driver of the Milan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to Regions Hospital. The pickup truck driver, a 16-year-old male from White Bear Lake, Minn., received non-life-threatening injuries

The state patrol said a 24-year-old male from Minneapolis who was a passenger in the truck received life-threatening injuries, and that information would be released following family notification. It is unknown whether alcohol was a factor in the crash. At 6:18, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 35 south of downtown

Dresser, near Boyd’s Outdoor Power Sports, according to Captain Dale Hall. One vehicle, a Chevrolet Silverado, was driven by Mickey Pugsley, a 56-year-old man from rural Osceola. He was injured and transported to the Osceola Medical Center and later taken into custody for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. The other vehicle contained two adults and two juveniles. The minors sustained “incapacitating injuries,” accord-

ing to Hall. It is unknown what type of injuries the adults received. Highway 35 was closed for approximately one half hour. The Osceola Police Department, Dresser Fire and first responders, Osceola Area Ambulance Service and Lakes Area Ambulance Service assisted onsite.
