Article 1. Employment and Duties of Employee All American School of Kosova faculty are expected to fulfill the job description below.

Job Description: Teacher Code of Ethics: What is a Competent and Ethical Educator? The competent educator demonstrates: Knowledge and use of curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of all the students; Ability to provide a climate for students that is conducive to learning and respects the rights of all persons without discrimination; And understanding of students and ability to establish and maintain good rapport and assist the growth of students; and: The ability to work effectively with students, staff, parents and community. Planning Develops engaging lesson plans and facilitates learning experiences for all students so that individual needs and the needs of the group are met. Plans innovative lessons and integrated units, which offer a variety of learning activities within a block class period. Work collaboratively with other staff members in the design and implementation of a rigorous curriculum. Teaching Uses a balanced range of teaching strategies to provide maximum learning opportunities for all students. Insures that students receive maximum benefit from the use of all materials and resources. Maintains and attractive, organized, and stimulating educational environment. Implements a fair and consistent classroom management plan aligned with all aspects of the student handbook. Uses technology when possible to support instruction; integrating student technology skill development with content learning. Follows the lead of the IT Department and provides collaboration and support. Enters student grades into PowerSchool regularly (at least one grade in two weeks) for parent review of a student’s progress Read and respond promptly to e-mail requests and instructions. Read the “American School of Kosova Weekly Update” by 7:30 a.m. each Monday. Student Assessment and Evaluation Evaluates student performance fairly and professionally and uses a variety of ways to gather information about each student’s ability, knowledge, and growth. Uses assessment as a tool for guiding the learning process and instruction. Maintains accurate student records. Collect data on student progress and makes an analysis to drive student learning.

Communication

Maintains open communication with students,homeroom teachers, learning specialists, counselors, parents, and all staff. Contributes information to the Weekly Update and Monthly School News Bulletin. Reads minutes from meetings that are pertinent to the department. Conducts parents conferences both formally and informally. Attends SST and special student team meetings as requested by principals. These meetings may run later than 16:30 but it is expected that teachers attend but do not occur too often. Teachers will be notified of these meetings in advance by 2-5 days but sometimes there are urgent situations which may require immediate attention.

Professional Development

Participates in all professional development opportunities offered by American School of Kosova and pursues knowledge of current best practice in the field of teaching. Completes any necessary documentation about training.

Expectations for Teachers

Follows the policies developed by the school located in the staff handbook and student handbooks, i.e. homework policy, grading policy, late work policy, absenteeism, emergency lesson plans, dress code, confidentiality policy, and social media policy, etc. Performs related duties as assigned. Supervises students and gives student feedback at all times during school hours. Maintains positive working relationship with administration, students, colleagues, parents, and the community. Works cooperatively with other members of the professional team to promote the educational, social, and emotional development of students. Participates in school and community- sponsored events. Prepares and maintains records and reports requested by the school administration. Participates in the planning, development, and evaluation of the school program. Regularly provides information updates on student progress in PowerSchool. Teachers enter data into PowerSchool at least one assignment every 10 days and the final grades in PowerSchool need to reflect the grading criteria in the student handbook. The teacher syllabus and PowerSchool documentation need to be coherent and in alignment. Preschool teachers will keep a file tracking the developmental milestone attainment for each student. Actively interact with students in support of the CAS program. Maintains Ministry of Education records such as the standard lesson plan book. Serves actively on school committees. Orders, inventories, and maintains materials and resources. Submits necessary classroom maintenance requests immediately via the ticket system. Maintains professional confidentiality both in and out of school. Acts as an educational ambassador of goodwill to the community at large. Cell phones should be available and turned on during the school day, so if necessary, you can be reached by the administrative team. Personal calls should not take place during class time. Actively engages in assigned teacher duties such as lunch and recess supervision. Attend parent-teacher-student conferences as according to the American School of Kosova school calendar. Be available for parents and students as requested for meetings related to their child. To perform other duties as needed and assigned by the divisional principal or head of school. To support the school and its leadership.


Article 2. Terms of Employment. The employee intends to complete this two year employment agreement according to the information on the cover page of this contract. However, if the employee needs to terminate this agreement, he or she must notify the employer in writing 15 working days in advance, in order to receive full salary and avoid a lawsuit for legal damages. It is the obligation of American School of Kosova leadership to conduct an annual evaluation of the employee and inform the employee at least one month prior of an expected termination.

Article 3. Specific Duties of Employee Currently, the working day begins at 7:30 a.m. daily and ends at 15:15. However, if the daily school hours change, teachers are expected to be present on campus and ready to teach their classes at least 15 minutes before the first class and 15 minutes after their last class. The full-time employee of grades 6-12 will teach 6 block periods (of 80 minutes each) in two days and teach up to 25 students per class. This allows for 2 planning periods over two days time. Full time elementary teachers in kindergarten to grade 5 will teach all core classes and expect to have 30 minute planning/collaboration periods while their students attend elective courses. Teachers are expected to reserve at least 1 of these periods a week to collaborate with other colleagues, including time with their divisional principal, learning support teacher, and school counselors. Every teacher is entitled to a daily 30 minute break that may be taken during their planning time or during a non-duty lunch time. Employee should also expect to participate in weekly staff meetings (Wednesdays 15:15-16:30) and offer academic support for their students at least one day after school (From 15:00-16:00) for one hour as assigned by the divisional principal.

Article 4. Teacher Orientation and Training. The employee is expected to participate in staff orientation and training that takes place at the beginning of every school year and also any other professional development opportunities that the school may provide. Financial penalties may be applied if the employee does not attend and has not obtained prior approval from the Head of School.

Article 5. Salary and Benefits. The employee will be paid in the first week of every month but no later than the 10th. Salary is determined by the salary schedule and is based on the qualifications and experience at the time of hire and is adjusted as qualifications are achieved and contract is completed. Employee is obliged to keep information about their personal salary confidential and shall not share this information with other employee's who work at the American School of Kosova. According to the law of Kosova all employee's are obliged to pay tax based on their salary amount; however, for international employee's, the American School of Kosova covers this cost.


The following benefits apply to international employee's: Health Insurance. American School of Kosova offers a standard health insurance plan with Sigal insurance company. 50% of the monthly cost will be covered by the American School of Kosova and 50% is paid by the employee. Housing Allowance. A furnished apartment or allowance for accommodation on the amount of 300€ per person/400 € per couple (utilities and internet should be covered by the employee) Travel Allowance. One round trip ticket per year from and to the country of departure. Education of Employee's Children. American School of Kosova offers a discount in tuition for the employee's that choose to educate the children in our school. The discount will be applied as following: • 20% during the first year • 40% during the second year • 70% discount during the third year and later

Article 6. Leave of Absence Sick Leave. The employee has the right to take off up to twenty (20) working days within one (1) academic year in case of illness. A medical report must be submitted within 1 week to the HR office as proof of absence that has occured more than two days or salary may be deducted. If it is suspected that an employee is not honest, then a supervisor may investigate the cause of absence. Sick leave may not be used for other purposes Personal and Professional Leave. After completing the academic year and working for at least 6 months, the employee will earn a paid summer vacation according to the school calendar. During the school year, the employee may request an additional 3 days for personal leave and 3 days for professional leave in accordance with the school leave policy and with the written permission of the employee's direct supervisor and the head of school. Leave requested days cannot be used immediately before or after a long holiday break. In the case of termination, the employee will not receive any paid vacation. Maternity Leave. The employee is entitled to 12 months of maternity leave. With presentation of a medical certificate, the employee may begin maternity leave up to 45 days before the expected due date. In the period of 28 days before the expected due date. The employer may request from the employee to begin the maternity leave earlier if it seems necessary. The employer will compensate 70% of base salary of the employee for 6 months of maternity leave. The employee is entitled by law to extend her maternity leave up to 6 more months without charge/ payment. If the employee does not want to use her right for maternity leave after six months, she should notify the employer no later than 15 days before the end of maternity leave in order to return to work. According to the law of Kosova. Each employee receives a paid leave in the following cases and must file a formal leave request with the human resource department as soon as possible: 5 days when he/she gets married; 5 days if a close family member dies; and 3 days off for the father when his child is born. Unauthorized Leave. If the employee takes time off from work, or leaves work without permission of their supervisor, disciplinary consequences will be applied.

Article 7. Termination for Cause. This employment contract may be terminated: • upon death of the employee • upon death of the employer and when the contract cannot be extended with the successors of the employer • when the contract expires • when the employee reaches the retirement age of 65 years old • when the employee is not capable of completing his work properly • if the employee has to serve a criminal sentence longer than 6 months • if a verdict of the court requests the termination of employment • bankruptcy and liquidation of the school • if employee is found as having committed any form of child abuse and if there is any legitimate evidence of the aforementioned, which serves as a breach of the code of ethics. Article 8. Contract Renewal and Termination. The American School of Kosova must notify the employee in writing by July 1st, if their contract will not be renewed. Reasons for termination may include: changing of course offerings, number of students enrolled, budget allocations, or other reasons explained in the employee's annual evaluation. The contract may be terminated prior to the expiration date if: •

There is a written agreement between both parties

The obligations stated in this contract have not been fulfilled by the employee In case of

unjustified absence of the employee for more than 5 days.

Article 9. Negligence. The employee is responsible to compensate for damage caused to insturctional materials, IT equipment, vehicles, furniture, building structure, or other, as a result of negligence or if done with malice intentionon. Even if the damage caused to the third party is covered by the employer, it is still the employee's responsibility to later compensate the employer. Article 10. Compliance with Laws. Both parties understand that their agreement will be governed solely by the terms of this contract. After signing this contract, any other prior verbal or written agreement between the parties will be invalid. This agreement may be reviewed if both parties decide on discussing a matter of common interest in the future. The dispositions in this agreement can under no circumstances be less favorable for either party than those stated according to the Kosovao Labor Law.

Article 11. Entire Agreement. Both parties agree this is a valid legal binding contract. Thus, both parties declare that they have signed this contract upon their free will, without any threat, violence, deceit, or any legal or factual oversight. Both parties agree to negotiate and solve the problems that may arise in relation to this contract, with good behavior and negotiation. If the parties will not be successful in solving the problems that may arise in relation to this contract they agree to refer the case to the Basic Court in Prishtina. Either

party can terminate

this

contract unilaterally, with prior verbal and written notice.

The employee agrees to not publically slander the name of or misuse any information that was gained while employed with American School of Kosova, with the intention of causing harm to the American School of Kosova, while employed, or within 5 years of being employed, or legal action may be taken by the school.
