NOTES

Happy New Year!

H

appy New Year to all! It’s hard to believe that 2017 is here. And with the new year comes planning for the upcoming driving season. I am sure that many of you are already scheduling your pleasure shows, CDEs and recreational drives on the calendar. I love the optimism that comes with a new year. Some of us get to look forward to the pending foaling season, the hope that comes for the future of every baby born to our mares. For others, it’s the mapping out of goals for the coming year in our respective driving fields. One of my goals for the upcoming year is to continue to shape the ADS publications into a format that is easy to navigate, with editorial that interests the readership and helps you further your goals in the carriage arena. I welcome your ideas for features and columns on topics that are of general interest to the membership, or specific aspects of horsemanship about which you’d like to learn more. Another major goal of mine for the ADS publications, specifically The Whip, is to continue to grow our advertising base. Both The Wheelhorse and The Whip are a member benefit, which means all members of the ADS receive both publications. What does that mean for you, as a potential advertiser? Your ad will land in the hands of your target market. Do you have horses, carriages, harness, or other carriage driving-themed merchandise to sell? Do you have new teams or partnerships for the coming year, or important wins to celebrate? We have prices to fit every pocketbook. Email me for rates and specials: abbie@americandrivingsociety.org. P.S. Tune into the February issue of The Whip for youth championship results.

appy New Year and all my very best wishes for a great year in driving to every one of my readers, as well as to the ADS membership. By the time you read this, it’s January 2017 - while now that I type it’s still the old year and the November Whip has just arrived recently in my mail box, and I’d like to compliment our new editor Abbie. Yes, sure, I’m old fashioned, there are a few changes which I still have to get used to - like the new masthead and the new format and a few other minor details, but overall, congratulations, Abbie! There are many things that I do like: First: I was not able to attend our annual meeting - but I was delighted to be able to find such a thorough report in The Whip. For as long as I have been an ADS member (about 35 years), I don’t recall ever having seen such good coverage of our annual meeting. Yes, I know, much of it can be found also on the new ADS website - which is great too - but here we also had many good pictures to go with the text. Besides, out of our about 3,000 members, how many would make the effort to read meeting minutes 1
