meet Tunza Tulle

There’s nothing better than seeing your daughter’s face light up as she puts on a gown for that upcoming simcha. Whether it’s a family wedding or her own bat mitzvah, knowing you’re getting a good quality piece that makes both her and you happy is truly the greatest gift, isn’t it?

That smile and twirl was exactly the goal for the founder Tunza Tulle, Rivki Kumer. She started the company nine years ago when she found a real lack in the frum community for cute, comfortable, lightweight dresses. Many of the gowns available were heavy and not very sensory-friendly making them difficult for kids to wear, Rivki’s partner Racheli Safranovitz says.

So Rivki got to work in her living room, taking some tutus, shells and elastic and turning it all into a dress for her daughter. Then, she made a few for her nieces. Immediately, people started asking her where she got the dress and when they found out she was the designer, they started requesting her to make more.

Slowly but surely, things grew. “I don’t think she started it thinking it was going to be a huge business,” Racheli shares. “We only moved out of her house into an office a few years ago.”

When Rivki started the company, she asked Racheli to help out to manage the heavy workload as requests began to increase. The two were close friends and Racheli was happy to jump in when she could. As the brand began to take off, they realized they worked so well together they should make it a permanent thing, so Racheli came on full-time.

Now, Tunza Tulle is a whole operation that runs out of an office and showroom in Union, New Jersey. While customers can go there directly to get items tailored and made, especially when they are looking for something to make from scratch, becoming a part of The ADDRESS has been such a great way to expand their offerings.

There, they have a standard line of dresses that range from sizes 1-2 to 14-16. The line was curated and created after years of experience learning what girls gravitate towards and like the most. It’s a good way to make the process easier as well, whereas before everything was made-to-order. Plus, if you’re shopping at The ADDRESS for a gown for yourself for a wedding or event, you can also pick up something for the younger girls all in one place. It’s seamless, easy and stress-free.

“Rivky has perfected adding lots and lots of tulle so it doesn’t need a crinoline which is heavy and uncomfortable,” Racheli adds. “She’s mastered this pattern that really makes the gowns stand apart from the rest.”

meet Orly

When it comes to high-quality fashion, Orna Shoshan knows what she’s doing. She’s Israeli and her husband is French — he’s worked in the fashion business forever and she’s always been creative and artistic. For them, making beautiful clothing is a lifestyle, not just something they do.

They started their brand, Orly (named after their oldest daughter), in 2000 as a store in Cedarhurst on Central Avenue. It’s almost like a mini-version of The ADDRESS, a curated selection of pieces from a variety of modest brands. “The goal was to have really cool clothing for tzniut customers,” Orna says. “We wanted people to dress [according to their values] without feeling like they were missing out on style.”

Shortly after, she noticed so many women walking around with tightfitting skirts. “Everyone was wearing pencil skirts or stiff-zippered skirts which did not exude comfort,” she explains. “My clients were gorgeous girls and women who were passionate about tznius and style, always asking for big baggy tops to hide themselves in the tight skirts. I wanted to design something where they could be tznius and comfortable with a beautiful effortless style. We designed our skirt to be flattering with any kind of top so that it will be timeless and carry you through any season and trend.”

It was from that, that their signature Orly skirt was born. It’s a pleated skirt that’s flattering from all angles. Once it came out, it took off. “People came to us and asked us for the skirt,” Orna says. “People would see it on the streets, and not only in the religious community. I had customers from all over the world — at the Dior counter even — asking about the skirt. It was something unique and totally from Hashem. There was so much siyata dishmaya.”

It helps that it’s made to be designer quality. Because of Orna and her husband’s relationships with the top professionals in Paris fashion, they are able to make a product that rivals top designers. Their production team also works with companies like Prada, Givenchy, Dior and other top designers. Since releasing the skirt, they’ve expanded the line, adding dresses and jackets and plan to continue growing while keeping the skirt as the staple item.

Joining The ADDRESS has been very natural for the Orly team. They love that customers can grab the Orly skirt and find another top from a different brand to pair it with. “Everything at The ADDRESS is modest but very wearable,” Orna says. “We agreed to join right away. It feels like one big family where everyone cares about each other. You really see the unity and it’s a beautiful thing. It’s like a collective success.”
