he says, is interacting with local artisans and the community. The most challenging aspect? Both Fraser and Joe the bowl maker agreed that it is figuring out exactly what the client wants. That means asking a lot of questions and doing their best to ensure their customers’ satisfaction. Fraser continually searches for new items to keep things fresh—like the new line of Canadian watches he recently brought in, which have wooden bracelets and bezels and range in price from $150 to $1, 000. When it came time to add on to the kitchen of their 18th-century home on Princess Anne Street in Fredericksburg, Peggy Marshall and Ed Jones sought Fraser’s help. They were shopping for flooring to match the pine floors in their living room. “It’s not an ordinary store,” says Marshall. “It’s almost
too cool for Fredericksburg.” She says Fraser found them the pine boards and then showed them a beautiful, old, hand-hewn, 8-by-8 barn wood header that could go between the addition and the old house. Later, Marshall needed some old timbers to replace termite-ridden ones for one of the walls. “David called back right away with exactly what we needed,” she says. “His shop should be the first stop for anyone looking to add character to their home, and a must-visit for those restoring an old house.” The Frasers are doing what they love and are being the people they always wanted to be. So far, you’d have to say, they’re nailing it. Kurt Rabin now wishes he had paid much closer attention in his high school wood shop class.
Hand-crafted shaving supplies are elegant, yet entirely practical. These are made with badger fur and walnut.
