UIL Lonestar Cup Boys Eagle Places 3rd at State!

The New Diana athletic, nonathletic and academic Programs earned a tie for 13th place in the UIL 3-A LoneStar Cup standings for the 2017-2018 school year, accumulating 40 points overall. Area schools also placing in the top 25 included Mt. Vernon(5th), Hughes Springs(T16th), district rivals Beckville(21st) and White Oak(25th). Brock ran away with the 3A cup, accumulating 86 points overall. Standings include points attained in the following sports, nonathletic and academic events: State and Area Marching Band, Tennis, Team Tennis, Cross Country, Volleyball, Football, Swimming & Diving, Wrestling, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Soccer, Golf, Track & Field, Academics, One Act Play, Softball, Baseball. Mr. Mark Ferrer, the Principal

of New Diana High School stated,”Congratulations to all our participants and coaches for helping New Diana HS place in the top 15 in the Lone Star Cup. Our coaches and kids worked tremendously hard in competing in all aspects this year. We are very proud of everyone's accomplishments!”

Lady Eagles

The New Diana Lady Eagle Golfers, 959, finish 12th out of 16 teams at the Region 2-AAA Tourney this year. Lauren James led the Eagles with a 12th place finish individually with scores of 105-100=205. Jennifer Chandler finished with a 114-131=235, Alexandra Leslie with a 134-116=250, Joelle Newton with a 137-134=271 and Jacey Loeza with a 135-143=278. This is a great showing for the Lady Eagles as they gear up for the next

season of golf. With only 1 player graduating, the Eagles will make a run for the District Title along with another trip to Regionals. A trip to the State tournament is in their sights as they head into the summer. finished 2nd in the 200m. & Asia Newsome 3rd in the 200 m. Also qualifying were Haleigh Holt in the 400 m. dash. On the boys side Jack Miller won the boys pole vault with winning vault of 14 ft. A.J. Thomas also qualified placing 4th in the 100 m. dash. Alan Brown finished 6th in the 110 Hurdles.

3A Area Results Representing New Diana was the girls 4x100m sprint relay & 800m. relay team of Lauren James, Auniau Parks, Anajia Harris & Asia Newsome. The girls placed 1st in the 400 meter sprint relay & 2nd in the 800 meter relay. Individual honors went to Anajia Harris who

3A Region 2 Results Jack miller competed on Saturday April 28th in the Region 2 Class 3A Regional track & field meet, taking 1st place in Pole Vault with a vault of 15’0. Jack advanced to represent New Diana ISD at the UIL State Track & Field Meet Friday May 10th at 8 a.m. in Austin, Texas

New Diana advanced to the UIL State Tournament with 3rd place finish at the Class 3A Region II Tournament held at Oak Hurst Golf Club. New Diana, made its third straight trip to the state tournament, finished third with a 666 total. Troup won the title with a 624 total, and Pottsboro was the runner-up at 633. New Diana was paced by Freshman Sam Benson with a 161 two-day total. Sophmore William Leslie finished at 166, Seniors Blayde Weekley 172 and Jackson Sampson and Ethan Thornton 173. The Boy's Eagle Golf Team held on in a thriller playoff to Capture 3rd Place in the TEXAS UIL 3A GOLF TOURNAMENT at Grey Rock GC in Austin, TX. This is the 1st time in the History of New Diana Athletics that any TEAM has Medaled in a State Competition. After the 1st day of competition, the Eagles were in 3rd place at 325.

Troup was in 2nd Place at 322 and leading the pack was Pottsboro at 309. In 4th place was Comanche at 336 and 5th place was Merkel at 341. The Eagles endured the 90+ temperatures to shoot 332 and finish in a tie for 3rd with Merkel who stormed back with a great score of 316. The Playoff Featured all 5 Players of each team playing the 18 Hole. Each Team will take the 4 Best Scores on that hole. The Eagle Golfers turned it on to have (5)-4-4-4-4=16. Merkel meanwhile struggled with a 5-4-4(7)-4=17. Eagles win by 1. Congrats to Junior Bladye Weekely with scores of 79-83=162, Sophomore William Leslie 8183=164, Freshman Sam Benson 80-84=164. Senior Ethan Thornton 85-82=167 and Senior Jackson Sampson 85-86=171. Interesting footnote. New Diana was the ONLY Team to have ALL 5 players to shoot under 87 for both days.

UIL State Results Jack Miller finished 3rd in the pole vault competition @ the UIL State Track & Field meet @ UT Austin. Jack cleared 15 feet to capture the bronze medal. Jack has shattered the record held by in the pole vault. Not only did Jack vault but he ran the 200 meter dash, 400 meters, & different legs on the mile relay from 7th grade on. Being an all around track athlete allowed him to sign with LeTourneau University in

Longview, Texas to continue pole vaulting and pursue his education in Engineering.
