Today’s Neuroscience in the Clinic session examines recent advances in tau pathology in dementia, behavioral neurology

Time for Tau: Developments in Biomarkers and Therapeutic Trials is the title of this afternoon’s Neuroscience in the Clinic, set for 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in 31AB. Directors Vijay K. Ramanan, MD, PhD, and Sharon Sha, MD, will be joined by expert faculty Elizabeth Mormino, PhD, Nicolas R. Barthélemy, PhD, and Adam L. Boxer, MD, PhD, and abstract presenters Jin-Tai Yu, PhD, Hamid Abuwarda, and John Winslow, PhD, to discuss recent advances in neuroimaging and fluid (blood and cerebrospinal fluid) biomarkers relevant for assessing tau pathology in neurodegenerative disease, as well as extant clinical trial approaches targeting tau pathology for disease modification in Alzheimer’s and related disorders.

“Advances toward early diagnosis and treatment of Alzheimer disease and related causes of dementia continue to evolve at a dizzying pace,” said Ramanan. “This session will tackle one of the most exciting fronts of neurological care and research, complementing available content focused on amyloid targeting for cognitive disorders with the latest updates on biomarker and therapeutic development related to tau. Appraising the current landscape in this space—including challenges and reasons for optimism—will help clinicians and scientists working with neurodegenerative diseases to continue spurring the field forward.” The session will conclude with a panel discussion along with opportunity for questions. Attendees may claim two CME credits.

VOICES OF THE ANNUAL MEETING

What do you enjoy about neurology?

I love the challenge of approaching something that deeply impacts an individual’s life. To be able to help them understand what’s going on, to help, to be in a place where you can give them comfort and hope… It’s a wonderful thing to be in that position where every day, you’re meeting people at their most vulnerable and you’re able to bring about a meaningful change.

Jigyasa Tewari, MD

What do you think about the meeting?

It’s been an amazing experience—I love how there are sessions specific to medical students. We had a session where we learned about different subspecialties in neurology. I really appreciated hearing about people’s different experiences, how everyone is unique in their journey. Hearing how they got where they are was very helpful, in terms of thinking about the future.

Maxime Munyeshyaka

What do you enjoy about the Annual Meeting?

I love the opportunities to network. We’re at the Trainee Hub right now, and they host a lot of helpful events like how to write a personal statement and networking with residents and program directors, which is super helpful for where I am in my career. That, and there’s a lot of research talks that are super fascinating.

Committed to more ON time for the Parkinson’s community.
