A selection of poems from my typewriter. Artist Statement:
Within my own work, there is often a contrast of themes that is representative of a lot of my own life. The ache to return ‘home’ or back to a familiar past that may have never really existed in the first place is often conflicting with the desire to move forward and far away from those sentiments. With my photographs and my writing, I like to play with this balance of ideal memories versus the search for the real. After all, memories of the past are often constructed and, more than not, often quite different than what actually was. That difference between truth and remembered is something I like to focus on. I want to give the sense of ‘home’ harmonious with ‘uncertainty’ and I enjoy the idea of prompting a sense of personal contentment, but introducing something a bit more uncomfortable or unknown.
