Changing the Game in Canadian Agriculture!

Brenna Carlstad is breaking barriers in the world of agriculture. Growing up in Bear Canyon, Alberta, she never expected to end up in ag, but fast forward a few years, and she’s making history as the first female hired in a field position for CLAAS. As a Careers in Ag ambassador, Brenna is passionate about sharing her story and inspiring others to explore the diverse opportunities in the agricultural industry.

 How I got my foot in the door was just by talking to people, making connections, and learning about the industry.

Her journey into agriculture wasn’t exactly a straight line. When Brenna left home for Olds College, she planned to carve out a different career path, but it didn’t take long for her to realize that ag was where she truly belonged. Brenna soon realized that agribusiness is more complex, exciting, and essential than she once thought. 

With her outgoing personality and natural talent for building connections, Brenna jumped into the ag industry headfirst.  Networking opened doors, and she discovered a passion for helping others and improving the future of farming. As Brenna says, “I naturally am a very outgoing person, and I love talking to people. So, that’s kind of how I got my foot in the door was just by talking to people, making connections, and learning about the industry.”

 Now, Brenna travels across Canada with CLAAS, attending events, meeting customers, and ensuring everything runs smoothly. Her mission? To make farming easier, faster, and  more productive. And her energy? Contagious. 

Brenna’s advice for students thinking about a career in ag is simple. Be proactive – opportunities won’t come to you. Don’t be afraid to go after them! Ask questions – the more you learn, the further you’ll go. Build your network – this industry is full of amazing people who want to help you succeed. 

Her story is proof that there’s no single path into agriculture. It’s an exciting, innovative industry with room for everyone. Brenna’s journey shows that sometimes the best career is the one you didn’t see coming.
