In 2019, 3M’s 409-acre headquarters in St. Paul, USA became powered by 100% renewable energy.
Powered by renewable energy sources. In 2019, we began converting our sites around the world to 100% renewable energy, starting with 3M’s headquarters, a 409-acre campus housing 30 buildings and research labs in St. Paul, Minnesota. As of the end of 2022, we have 62 sites (2,790 square metres or larger) that are powered by 100% renewable electricity, comprising 51.9% of our electricity use. We continue to seek alternative energy sources at all 3M sites, including solar, wind, and projects such as utilised excess steam. Our 2022 goal result:

3M Thailand installed one 1,000 kWh rooftop solar system with a second system nearing completion in July 2023. Total reduction in GHG emissions is estimated to be more than 22,700 tonnes over the next 20 years.
