From the beginning planning stages to the final revising moments, all the steps involved in the design process continue to keep me enthralled with Interior Design.

Through this profession, I am able to express myself as a growing creative with developing multi-skills. I am fascinated by the world around me and by the different environments that are involved. My passions and abilities allow me to maintain an adoration for creating and enhancing spaces that cater to the needs of users.

Digital Drawing

For majority of my life, I have taken interest in art and have constantly challenged myself with exploring different mediums, subjects, and styles with each piece I have completed. Over the years, I found that I have grown greatly with my skills relating to planning, sketching, and finalizing, as well as my attention to detail. Along with that, I gradually learned how to deal with problem solving and how to ensure that all decisions I made were the most practical, but still executed the design I wanted to showcase. With the coloured pastel piece, I tasked myself with taking realistic figures and trying unconventional portrait colours to evoke interest while I focused on strengthening my pencil and shading skills with the koi fish drawing. The digital drawing allowed me to test my abilities with trying a newer medium that I was not too familiar with, and this was the same with the cassette tape and pen, where I created an illusion through patience and detail. Lastly shown is the oil painting, which I assigned myself to play with surrealism in order to create overall harmony and exhibition of intentional choices.

DOMAINE

In a second-year design class, students produced planning sketches on sketch trace for a Conference Center. The sketches consisted of manipulation options for the flooring, feature wall, column, reception desk, and ceiling that would connect back to the vision for the center. With this, I was able to develop skills of quick sketching, idea annotating, and feedback noting. This project allowed me to speed up my planning process and helped me to be more critical of my own work by ensuring to work through all critiques given and planning out how to improve on them by using sketch trace on top of my drawings.

AutoCAD Construction Docs

In a second-year construction class assignment, students were provided a floor plan which required renovating while they deepened their understanding of construction documents. In this project, I was able to develop technical skills by gaining knowledge on the aspects of demolition and new drawings, as well as how to properly communication those elements in the documents. Along with this, I was able to learn how to correctly create details that showcase joinery, connections, and sections of the numerous components within the project.

In a second-year Revit class assignment, students were challenged to design and render the bar and stairs of a building, along with the mezzanine using Revit. In this project, I was able to further develop my technological skills with this software while also applying my creative thoughts to each space. I expanded my knowledge on techniques for creating and designing structures and spaces that cater towards user needs. I was proud with how I was able to showcase my understanding with construction through Revit, as well as design skills.

In a first-year presentation class assignment, students were tasked with designing and rendering the exterior and interior of a building using SketchUp. In this project, I was able to develop technological skills by learning techniques of how to create realistic renderings through the software. I was pleased with my ability to establish settings that were aesthetically pleasing. I was also proud to showcase the knowledge I gained throughout the lessons, along with how I learned how to develop my visions and ideas relating to design.

Through this project, I was able to put my creative thoughts to the test while also applying new and developing skills of rendering and computer software with SketchUp and Enscape. Learning how to place items, playing with illuminations, and adjusting settings are only a few of the various skills that I have gained through this project for The Red Lion: Pub & Grill. With this space, I planned and developed an interior that would showcase a warm and inviting atmosphere that encourages gathering and entertainment for users. This was done by the utilization of a brick veneer feature wall and the red walls which not only tie back to the pub’s name, but also stimulate the appetite of the customers.

As apart of a second-year design class, a Staples Scholarship project was provided where students were required to plan out an agile workspace that connects back to the needs of the client while also working with a mentor for feedback. Along with space planning, students had to select furniture pieces from either Staples or Global Furniture to help create the office space. This project allowed me to go through the design process fully and helped me to create a space that has considerations for user experience, as well as proper circulation and egress.

This project was apart of a second-year design class as well but started off as a team assignment to create a cohesive design for the flooring, ceiling, columns, and furniture layout for a community center. For this collaborative portion, I designed columns with comfortable seats that showcase the colour variety that the center’s logo displays. Branching off the teamwork, students were tasked with designing a feature wall, thick wall, and reception area. For these elements, I ensured to carry on the vibrant colours and the border colour of the logo, along with materials and components from the collaboration portion for overall unity of the space.

El Tortilleria was a second-year design class scholarship project in which students were challenged with developing and designing interior elements for a Mexican restaurant. The client vision directive involved creating an inviting, and animated environment that has a blend of stucco, concrete, and natural mid-toned wood textures for a hand selected impression. Along with that, curated murals and artwork, eclectic lighting, and vibrant colours throughout were required to pay homage to authentic Mexican roots. To achieve this with my tasked area of the market, I utilized walnut wood to achieve that natural mid-toned wood texted while also incorporating traditional Talavera Tile and concrete for cohesivity with other elements within the restaurant and for further execution of the vision directive. Chalkboard signage can be seen for each shelving unit for flexible merchandise labeling and LED downlights help to highlight each product.
