FROM PRESIDENT
ACTIVATING THE NEXT GENERATION OF GLBOAL LEADERS.
I started this foundation earlier in 2023, with the goal of having a platform to be able to give back to society within my own little ways and resources available at my disposal I'm grateful for the amazing support I received from friends, volunteers, mentors, and partners Without your unwavering support for our mission and the clear vision of the foundation, we wouldn't be able to reach and impact as many lives as possible My grandmother once told me, "Whenever something good happens to you, do something good for someone else,” and ever since then, I have made it my goal and life mission to make an impact and change as many lives as I could I can't wait to see what the upcoming year has in store
Francis Koroma is a prominent leader from Sierra Leone and a global change marker As the founder and president of the Francis Koroma Foundation, he has dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation of leaders and changemakers Through mentorship programs and academic support, he guides young individuals in transitioning from high school to college, preparing them to take on leadership roles in their communities
Through his Foundation, Francis Koroma has given such scholarships to three college students to cover their full tuition for the year, two high school students to cover their books and feeding for the academic year, and helped students get fully funded scholarships to universities (Berea College USA and Asian Pacific University Japan) and summer programs like Yale Young Global Scholars
His remarkable contributions earned him the African Pacesetter for Development Award in 2022 at the UN, the 25 Under 25 Global Legacy Award in 2023 from Common Purpose UK, and the newly appointed Secretary General for the Organization of African Youth, a testament to his dedication to Africa's progress Francis is also a seasoned advocate on the international stage Serving as a UN Speaker, he addresses high-level events like the High Political Forum, the ECOSOC Youth Forum, and the General Assembly, championing the cause of young people in making interventions and promoting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Hi, I am Esther Konneh An ambitious, goal-oriented, passionate, resilient and resourceful individual I attended Annie Walsh Memorial Secondary School In my previous school, I embraced leadership roles, serving as a prefect during my time in both junior high and senior secondary school I was the organizing secretary of the Scripture Union, a dedicated member of the school brass band, and an active participant in the Literary and Debating Society. I also joined the Integrity Club at Annie Walsh, which further instilled in me the values of integrity and responsibility In 2018, I was given the opportunity to participate in an extraacademic course work and leadership training entrepreneurship program called "Diamond Challenge" As youths, we collectively worked together to bring solutions to eradicate different problems we face in our communities, such as inadequate water facilities by building 3D water tanks, easy access to medical hubs by renovating hospitals, and building health hubs for first aid and emergencies, etc. Working with different people was an awesome and lifechanging experience.
These experiences not only enriched my character but also taught me the importance of teamwork, communication, and perseverance I learned to lead by example, fostered a sense of belonging among my peers, and developed a passion for public speaking and advocating for positive change. I completed a course in computer science at BankTec College and am a current student at Furah Bay College studying engineering.
I have also served as a brand ambassador for AfricellSL A telecommunications network in Sierra Leone After completing my secondary education, I continued to explore opportunities for personal growth and community impact
My journey was never without challenges Growing up in Sierra Leone, I faced adversity and witnessed the struggles of my community. To make a difference, I became actively involved in various community development volunteer groups. Together, we visited deeply affected communities, focusing on addressing the challenges they faced This experience instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and a desire to create positive change
As a youth leader and humanitarian, I have strived to be a voice for the voiceless At the Amazing Glory Ministry, I am not only a dedicated member, a choirster and a study teacher to the little kids. I am also a volunteer at the church's foundation, Sorry Heart Foundation (SHF). We do not only teach them the word of God, but we also teach the youth, especially boys who have been addicted to harmful use of dugs We let them know that they can do better with their lives and that their past does not have to define them or their future I am a social work community development volunteer We work as a team to clean taps, drains, garbage collection and sensitization on personal and community hygiene. My commitment to these causes led to my involvement with the Francis Koroma Foundation, where I currently serve as a volunteer. This foundation is dedicated to nurturing the next generation of future leaders Through our efforts, we aim to provide opportunities and guidance to young people, enabling them to reach their full potential The Francis Koroma Foundation was established in January 2023, and in this year we have had a series of life-changing events One of these life-changing events was when we visited Prince of Wales Secondary School. We awarded the top 5 pupils that got the best West African Senior School Certificate Examination. We gave them the opportunity to be interviewed. On this platform, Alhaji Kajali, who was the best pupil, and his mom expressed their appreciation for the award Till date, the Francis Koroma Foundation is changing lives

HIGHLIGHT 2023
EUGENIA ROGERS
Hello everyone, I’m Eugenia from Sierra Leone I’m attending Smith College in the US but currently studying sustainable development in Denmark on a short exchange program I’m the founder and director of the Eugenia M B Rogers Youth Foundation, catering to education and community building in Sierra Leone I’m interested in climate activism so please feel free to send anything in that area my way!
As I bid farewell to an incredible semester abroad, I am overflowing with gratitude for the enriching experiences and invaluable lessons that have shaped both my personal and academic growth My time in Denmark, immersed in a diverse curriculum and surrounded by a vibrant cultural tapestry, has left an indelible mark on my journey
For the past few months, I delved into the realms of sustainable development, integrated climate change planning, and environmental policy in practice Additionally, I embraced the linguistic challenge of learning Danish and engaged in groundbreaking research on biological pest control in agriculture These academic pursuits not only broadened my knowledge but also refueled a passion for sustainable practices that I hope to continue exploring upon my return to Smith College
Becoming a member of Global Aktion and Extinction Rebellion was pivotal in my commitment to climate activism Engaging with likeminded individuals, I discovered the power of collective action and the importance of advocacy in the face of environmental challenges
Venturing beyond Denmark, I explored six European countries, absorbing their unique cultures and histories, and gaining insights into their approaches to climate action
Visiting solar farms and wind turbine installation sites was a highlight, sparking inspiration as I envisioned the role of green energy in shaping Africa's sustainable future The firsthand exposure to diverse initiatives left me hopeful that Africa can leapfrog from its current energy pitfalls, bypassing fossil fuel use and moving straight to renewable energy sources
Yet, amidst this whirlwind of activity, my most profound realization came from embracing the Danish concept of hygge (pronounced ‘hyooga’) In navigating what seemed like a Herculean schedule, I discovered the art of balance between work and play The core tenets of hygge prioritizing holistic well-being, recognizing oneself beyond mere productivity, and embracing a slower pace became guiding principles in my daily life
As 2023 draws to a close, I carry with me not only a wealth of knowledge and a strengthened commitment to environmental stewardship but also the invaluable skill of balancing ambition with wellbeing I encourage everyone to embrace the spirit of julehygge a cozy and joyful end to the year Here's to a future where sustainability, advocacy, and a touch of hygge create a harmonious and thriving world for us all

HARMONY IN A WORLD IN CRISIS: WORLD INTERFAITH HARMONY WEEK 2023 AT UNITED NATIONS

World Interfaith Harmony Week is an annual event observed during the first week of February, after the General Assembly's designation in 2010. The General Assembly pointed out that mutual understanding and interreligious dialogue constitute important dimensions of a culture of peace and established World Interfaith Harmony Week as a way to promote harmony between all people, regardless of their faith.
Recognizing the imperative need for dialogue among different faiths and religions to enhance mutual understanding, harmony, and cooperation among people, the General Assembly encourages all states to spread the message of interfaith harmony and goodwill in the world’s churches, mosques, synagogues, temples, and other places of worship during that week, on a voluntary basis and according to their own religious traditions or convictions working together to achieve peace, gender equality, mental health and well-being, and environmental preservation
The event was organized during World Interfaith Harmony Week (1–7).

HISTORY OF THE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 2030
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go handin-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests
The SDGs build on decades of work by countries and the UN, including the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs
In June 1992, at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, more than 178 countries adopted Agenda 21, a comprehensive plan of action to build a global partnership for sustainable development to improve human lives and protect the environment
Member States unanimously adopted the Millennium Declaration at the Millennium Summit in September 2000 at UN Headquarters in New York The Summit led to the elaboration of eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to reduce extreme poverty by 2015
The Johannesburg Declaration on Sustainable Development and the Plan of Implementation, adopted at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in South Africa in 2002, reaffirmed the global community's commitments to poverty eradication and the environment, and built on Agenda 21 and the Millennium Declaration by including more emphasis on multilateral partnerships
At the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2012, Member States adopted the outcome document "The Future We Want" in which they decided, inter alia, to launch a process to develop a set of SDGs to build upon the MDGs and to establish the UN High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development The Rio +20 outcome also contained other measures for implementing sustainable development, including mandates for future programmes of work in development financing, small island developing states and more In 2013, the General Assembly set up a 30-member Open Working Group to develop a proposal on the SDGs
In January 2015, the General Assembly began the negotiation process on the post-2015 development agenda The process culminated in the subsequent adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with 17 SDGs at its core, at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in September 2015
2015 was a landmark year for multilateralism and international policy shaping, with the adoption of several major agreements:
Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (March 2015)
Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development (July 2015)
Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 SDGs was adopted at the UN Sustainable Development Summit in New York in September 2015
Paris Agreement on Climate Change (December 2015)
Now, the annual High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development serves as the central UN platform for the follow-up and review of the SDGs
