European River Cruises

A NOTE FROM OUR CEO
It is with great pride and heartfelt gratitude that I write to you as the new CEO of AmaWaterways.
Looking ahead to 2027, I am delighted to invite you to explore the rivers of Europe with us — on thoughtfully designed journeys that immerse our guests in the culture, history and spirit of each destination.
At AmaWaterways, river cruising is more than a way to travel; it is a way to connect. Connect to the beautiful landscapes, to the vibrant local cultures and, above all, to the people we meet along the way: from the communities we visit to our incredible crew on board, whose attentiveness and warmth make every sailing truly memorable. Whether gliding along the romantic Danube, discovering the charm of the Seine, or venturing through Portugal’s enticing Douro Valley, each itinerary offers a personalized and enriching experience in the heart of Europe.
I am honored to build on the legacy of our pioneering founders, Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst and the late Jimmy Murphy, whose European heritage, vision and values continue to guide and inspire us.
As you explore this brochure, I hope you feel the care and excitement behind these itineraries. We look forward to welcoming you on board and sharing the magic of discovering Europe — one river, one village, one unforgettable experience at a time.
Warmly,

Catherine Powell CEO

1975
Vienna-born student Rudi Schreiner traveled to South America for a journalism assignment on the Amazon. It was here he designed his first ship, a raft that would take him up and down the river during the next 7 months, fueling his passion for exploring the world.

2002
Rudi teamed up with co-founders Kristin Karst and Jimmy Murphy to start AmaWaterways.

2019
Our extraordinary AmaMagna, twice the width of traditional river cruise ships and featuring four unique dining venues, made history with her debut on the Danube River.

OUR STORY
Proudly celebrating more than 23 years cruising the world’s most legendary rivers through Europe, Asia, Africa and South America, AmaWaterways was founded in 2002 by three families. However, our river cruise story began well before that.
2006
Our first custom-built river cruise ship, AmaDagio, was christened by Godmother Sheila Murphy, wife of our late Co-Founder, Jimmy Murphy. We also added a complimentary fleet of bicycles on board select ships.

2025
AmaWaterways released a collection of new Specialty River Cruises and pioneered the first luxury cruises on Colombia’s magnificent Magdalena River. We also welcomed Catherine Powell as our new CEO.

2017
Our Wellness Program debuted in Europe with dedicated Wellness Hosts leading classes on board throughout the day.

- Arlene B., Guest
We have also implemented many sustainable features such as LED lighting, refillable soap dispensers and solar panels on select ships, highlighting our commitment to protecting the natural ecosystems we cruise through.
