Language, photographs, writing..thats it ?

I’d Really like to research on various things, experiences and methods which are bound to create an experiential communication to people, mass, community and even to the world.

I’ve always liked the idea of being a professional dreamer, an inspiration rom Philippe Stark - a designer who designs every possible thing to make it an experiential one.

The term ‘Design Innovator and Researcher’ in itself makes me feel inspired to take up challenges and move forward to grow as an individual.

User Experience has always been perceived as the digital form of experience.

The idea was to break away the same perception and develop a tangible form of interface and interaction.

A game was taken up as a project for developing an experience in form of a controller.

Gam’O’fone makes it happen.

A Gam’O’fone is a term coined by us which is a customised controller developed for the game.

The experience of playing the same game with a Telephone!

Why a Telephone ?

That Era of 80’z saw many developments in gaming industry as well as other industries. One of them was telephone which is now replaced by slim smartphones. What remains in our mind is the memories of using those rotary dial telephones.

Today these telephones are treated as antiques and as a possession of memories attached to it. What made that product relate to those memories ? Deep down within our memory lane, that

experience of using the Rotary dial was engraved.

Since it belonged to the same era of nostalgia and experience, it perfectly sat in place as an Interactive controller for Asteroids!

The Era of 8 bit gaming experience had seen many games, one of them being

Asteroids.

What is it about the game that creates a Nostalgic feeling? Doesn't that feeling creates a abuzz within?

Don’t you think, the thing what makes you express this feeling is important?

These simple things revolve around those days of gaming experience...that era of 80’z !

Basic games, yet a powerful

feeling attached to it !

Living those games back again today in the era of crazy interesting games with lot more improved graphics and story, probably wouldn’t ever happen. But yes, what remains forever is the Nostalgic feeling of having

What is Tell-A-Tale?

It has been well known fact, that humans have a knack of looking back at past events and reminiscing good & bad, old memories. Sometimes they feel nostalgic, happy, thoughtful about those lil events of their past.

Memories are integral part of human psyche. We, as humans thrive on the past to make a better future.

So, to support the idea of reminiscing old memories, Tell-A-Tale helps you record your moods and events and stores in its timeline space.

But, here’s the twist.. the app records your event but converts your event into a comic story.

Why Comic Story ?

Comics are stories expressed in form of images and combined with lil texts and other visual information.

So, the target was clear i.e. to create a reflection of events with pun and exaggeration keeping in mind user persona which ultimately leads to humorous comic story.

This not only leads to a lil perception change in interpretation of events but also gives a different perspective to look at any particular event.

(eg. Ramesh had a heated argument with his boss and was not at all happy about that. He happened to feed this event into this app and the humorous output led him to reflect the whole event in a different manner. The comic strip made him ease out a bit from within.)

User Experience deals holistically with satisfaction and pleasure of usability and accessibility of any design.

Tell-A-Tale too connects with the user on those terms with interactions based on expressiveness and communication.

Furniture for Kids As a part of UID curriculum, all the Final year students are required to undertake a degree project in the industry/external mentor/design studio. The project needs to be a full scale one. The project duration can be of 20 to 24 weeks. It provides a platform for individual to generate professional design project.

This experience exposes the student to perform individually or in a group and implement their learnings from their college eduction in real time market. This platform also helps the student to understand the importance of various other fields that a designer needs to interact when once in professional setup. This experience is a major step for young designers to understand their strengths and weaknesses before entering the industry.

I have pursued my degree project with an External Mentor who was a part of IDC Godrej based in Mumbai, India and now he is principal designer of Studio Everything by Design. The duration of my project was of 24 weeks from September to February 2018.

Starting point to get familiar

Individual methods for the ethnographic study included: participant observation(shadowing), interviews and surveys. All of these ethnographic methods were very valuable in gaining a deeper understanding of a Kid and its relationships. I made use of these in order to develop their understanding of the relevant domain, relationships, emotional and situational things, interests, choices and their context(s).

One of the main advantages associated with ethnographic research was that it helped identify and analyse unexpected issues. When conducting other types of studies, which are not based on in-situ observation or interaction, it could have been very easy to miss unexpected issues. This could happen either because questions are not asked, or respondents neglect to mention something. in-situ presence helped mitigate this risk because the issues (hopefully) became directly apparent.

Its other main benefit was its ability to deliver a detailed and faithful representation of children’s behaviours and attitudes.

One of the main disadvantages at this study was the amount of time it took to conduct. Because of its richer output, an ethnographic study tends to take longer time to generate and analyse its data than many other methods.

Also it was like the Kids and their counterparts did not act naturally initially, but as the kids grew to trust me they were enjoying and becoming comfortable or maybe got tired of any pretence.

Qualitative Study was done In-situ on Kids ranging 5-9yrs of age.

With a basic preparation of Investigative trigger questions, the research was carried out.

Then to finalise with the template form for the base structure which by its nature is sturdy and is aesthetically appealing.

So, I started to reject some of those which were non appealing and ultimately found a few which can be taken forward to make an interesting form.

For Prototyping : Cushion was made with Fibre and pieces of foam and a PVC pipe was inserted at the centre for sitting over the frame members.
