For his project in Typography for Graphic Design, I was tasked with adapting the text of a book of our choosing into a well-designed adaptation that features excerpts of text from the original publication, and puts extra consideration into the typographic design and layout. For my completed book, I chose to adapt “Dune” by Frank Herbert, which is a science fiction novel first published in 1965, and later adapted into a film by both David Lynch in 1984 and Denis Villeneuve in 2021.
The visual aesthetics of my 30-page book were heavily inspired by Villeneuve’s 2021 production of “Dune,” and by the Vaporwave genre of art and design. Every aspect of the design was also chosen to symbolize some aspect of Herbert’s incredibly dense and complex story. Overall, the work on this book was done more as a passion project than as an assignment for class.
Overall, the work on this book was done more as a passion project than as an assignment for class. I would not change a single thing about the design of this book.
