Interactive Void

design strategy aspires to create an institution that is adaptable, interactive and accessible for everybody. The principal act is to elevate a substantial part of the program while lower the other part. by doing so, a public void is created within and underneath part of the building, creating an informal cultural plaza within the formal boundary of the building which provides a new sense of dynamic interaction between inmates and staffs.

CLUSTER LIVING VILLAGE

Living quarters are incorporated with three floor of cell unit stacked on top of each other to form triple-storey kampung living. Within living quarter itself located on upper ground floor, all inmates are free to roam around, giving them slightly a sense of freedom to be at anywhere at anytime during daytime as long as in the living quarter. The flexibility given to them replicates the sense of humane rehabilitive environment within an incarcerated complex.

CENTRALISED GROUND PLAZA

Ground plaza is located on a podium of 4 floors above the entrance road level. From above point of view, ground plaza is seen as a series of long, centralised plaza that connect between school and medical rehabilitation blocks below to living quarter above it. Every activity happening on ground plaza is clearly can be seen by anyone from anywbere as it resemble as open place on top of rooftop of school blocks. In case of emergency situation, ground plaza may acts as an assembly point. During any other situation, ground plaza is a meet up place from one place to another. The purpose of designing the centralised ground plaza in such as way is to make it visible and as viable as possible from supervisors’ eye view, easen the natural surveillance process thus eliminating the needs for video surveillance type of security.

CENTRALISED CONTROL ROOM

The needs of a control room in a correctional facility is crucial, albeit the minimum security facility needs minimum supervision. Located at the center of all space perimeter, it ease and shorten the walking distance of a prison officer to his required building.

VALLEY OF HOPE

Being the connection in the between of administration zone to the living zone, valley of hope gives different impression for a newly-reached inmate who about to be located to specific living village.

Triple volume high-ceiling with retractable skylight on the roof incorporate the matters for natural ventilation and lighting into the space volume. The left side view overseeing the teaching and learning in tutorial room, while the right side view overseeing the activity in the library.

OUTDOOR VISITATION SPACE

Inmates are allowed to meet visitors during weekend once in every fortnight.

Outddor visitation space allows flexibility to roam around with family during meeting. They are allowed to have lunch together at open canteen as well.

Double volume high-ceiling space with direct vision towards front facade and water bodies gives dramatic natural lighting impression to people residing within it.

It started out with a plan of community configuration that promotes social interaction through the idea of cluter living concept. Then, the aspect of architectural elements shall be inserted to assist a complete rehabilitative environment living. A few architectural elements are incorporated with the considerations on : - the practicality of construction system - the practicality of security and privacy purposes, in order to ease and assist a direct supervision and natural surveillance in an incarcerated space.

PASSIVE FIRE PROTECTION Besides of providing all the tools for the fire protection and fire detection, a good passive fire precautions has been taken into consideration into the building planning at the first place, while material selection also will ensure that a good design have been achieved.

Passive Fire Protection (PFP) is a group of systems that compartmentalize a building through the use of fire-resistance rated walls/floors. Compartmentalizing your building into smaller sections helps to slow or prevent the spread of fire/ smoke from one room to the next.

In this design proposal, passive fire protections are designed according to separation of correctional compound into 4 smaller blocks or zones, namely, school block, living quarter block, medical rehab block. To ease the understanding of group of systems of compartmentalizing blocks, diagram showing different blocks are shown below.

The regular inspection and testing of heat and smoke alarms and sprinkler systems required by OSHA guidelines are still applicable in a prison setting, with state and local regulations mandating the number and type of detectors, sprinklers, and fire extinguishers that must be onsite. However, a correctional facility has inherent challenges due to the nature of its occupants as it related to fire and smoke detector and sprinkler system safety and vandalism.

Hip, Hop, Happening Promenade Plazza

A series of happening retails, commercial lots at ground floor is arranges to facing directly towards the office plaza, and adjacently with the KTM front facade to fullfill the desire of what residential needs and office worker shall grab pastries, meeting over lunchtime by noon.

In the middle of this tri-interaction of plazza, a big open green plazza, with water feature to cool down the weather, and naturally shaded by the shadow of tall height of both high-rise in the between.

key plan

Space function for both public user and residential is according to its level of privacy. The upper people go up, the more they feel sense of privacy. Ground floor spaces are meant for mostly public access. Visitor for both going to offices and residents are only to park at ground floor parking bays, and able to use all the amenities provided at the ground floor such as self-service car wash.

Towers Orientation

The split-sharing concept applies on tower B floor for 1000sqft unit only. Tower A (for 650sqft) remains as usual with corridor at every floor. The concept gives options for buyers to select either to experience a split-sharing living or to buy a typical apartment living.

Both towers are oriented to make use and connected via a green pocket at facility floor, in which both residents at two towers can share same facilities without having to go to ground floor and change an escalator to go up back.

To understand the innovation of split-sharing typology in terms of costs and efforts, the corridors are placed at every two levels in a specular way. With this arrangement, each unit is connected from corridor via a series of staircase going up, and going down.

A staircase is shared with two house resident living adjacently next door. Also to note that, the lift doesn’t stop at every floor in which it only stop at every two floor, it is either stops at all even floors or all odd floors. The logic behind this idea of ‘lift-doesn’t-stop-at -all-floor’ is to promote the energy efficiency of lift consumption, waiting time to enter lift is reduced to half because the probability of going out from lift to the resident’s unit floor is doubled due to the double volume corridor hallway design.

DIAGRID S HAVE EMERGED AS AN ARCHITECTURAL CHOICE IN THE CREATION OF CONTEMPORARY BUILDINGS. ALTHOUGH THERE ARE ENGINEERING-BASED REASONS THAT WOULD SUGGEST THE USE OF A DIAGRID, DISCUSSIONS WITH ENGINEERS WOULD CONCLUDE THAT ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN HAS BEEN THE DRIVING MOTIVATION.

• The choice to architecturally expose or conceal the structural diagrid frame has great impact on the design and detailing choices.

• There may be instances where the structural systems needs to be less visually dominant as a function of the use of the space however whether or not a diagrid is exposed or concealed, there will always be a strong tendency of the diagrid to dominate the design.

ARCHITECTURALLY EXPOSED SYSTEMS : • requires fully welded connections both within the node and for the connection between the nodes and diagonal.

The specific size or subdivision of triangulation of the structural diagrid into glazed or opaque elements will also depends on whether operable units are fixed panels or whether operable units are to be incorporated into the facade for the use of the space.

INTUMESCENT COATINGS : provide both fire resistance and painted appearance for exposed steel. The coatings will have a slightly thickened appearance with a finish akin to orange peel. This needs to be taken into account when deciding on the details for the connections and members.

• Reinforced concrete cores are meant for resisting lateral and gravity load. In deciding upon a reinforced concrete core there are several issues that must be addressed.

This conceptual idea competition is to propose an innovate campus master plan for UM, integrating its core vision and mission in becoming ‘an internationally renowned institution of higher learning in research, innovation, publication and teaching’ and ‘to advance knowledge and learning through quality research and education for the nation and for humanity’.

Brief

The scheme focus on people, and gives them a seamless covered walkway that link all the buildings and unifies the campus. A series of sky-plazas along the skywalk provides hangout spaces for students, staffs and the visitors as well.

In a team of 3 people, we ensure to achieve all of 10 required key points in a master plan scheme that by ensuring the design to be motivating, topical and relevant.

The Bandar Malaysia project, located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, is an integral part of the Malaysian Governmentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s 11th Five-Year Plan and the 2020 Vision. Bandar Malaysia will create a new integrated transportation hub featuring High Speed Rail (HSR), MRT Line 2, Airport ERL, KTM, MONORAIL and other mode of transports. This new landmark will become the largest transportation hub in Southeast Asia, with an estimation of 500,000 people travelling daily.

Brief

In a team of 3 people, my role included in: - Preparing infrastructure schematic drawing based on existing and future public transportation system in Klang Valley i.e.: MRT2, KTM, LRT, ERL, HSR, etc.

-Producing a comprehensive design output in proposing a new integrated public transportation network in Klang Valley.

5 BANDAR MALAYSIA TRANSPORTATION HUB A NEW INTEGRATED PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION NETWORK HUB IN KLANG VALLEY

The various trasnsport modes stationed at different levels of the transport hub are served by swift vertical movement systems (elevators and escalators) and vehicular ramps to ensure efficient movement for both vehicles and pedestrian.

There are several vehicular entry points to the site, where vehicles can access LG1 from both the DUKE3 North and South bound, while vehicles from Sungai Besi Road and KL-Seremban Highway can access at LG3. Dedicated lanes for bus, taxi and private cars are provided to access to their station and parking areas.

Departing passengers for HSR, ERL, KTM, KL Monorail, Bus or Taxis will head to LG1 (Public Concourse Level) to get their tickets. For passengers using MRT2, a connection is provided to the adjacent MRT2 concourse on B2.

Arriving passengers heading out to Bandar Malaysia will use the dedicated BRT/ Tram located on LG3 for their last mile journey.

This axonometric diagram shows the integration of all the movement systems for Bandar Malaysia Transportation Hub, including the High Speed Rail ( HSR ). The layout of this transportation hub is strategically designed to enable both local and international passengers to access the various transportation modes efficiently, and at the same time, providing exciting spaces to enjoy such as the rainforest park, retail, restaurants, offices and many more.

Eversince the upgrowing number of educational institution encompassing all over the heart of Cyberjaya, it feels a necessitious to provide a decent hub for them, in order to spark up an educational-oriented lifestyle among students.

In determining the successful of this aspiration, virtuous of technology features are implemented according to its suitability with local climate, sun orientation and building function.

Brief

In a team of 4, we divided tasks according to our respective strengths and tendency; whereas my role of involvement including in; - doing a detail study in sun orientation behaviour according to precedent studies from tropical climate country and four season climate country.

Being home to the Penang International Airport, Bayan Lepas is widely known for Penang main high-tech industrial hub; Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone (FIZ). Receiving thousands of visitors and tourists every months, Bayan Lepas is considered and important district in Penang.

Brief

Located by walking distance from PIA, proposed site has a potential to become a medium as for transit from airport to land transportation station.

By 2050, Penang Island will be completely accomodated with the first LRT System that will connect the prime north-south corridor acrossing the residential route in Jelutong; main industrial area in Penang.

By considering the future development set up 30 years from now, the construction of airport hotel main concerns is to link in people from air to land; namely to be a transit hub from Penang Internation-

The real potential of the modular system shows in the design of more complex structures. At last the advantages of the irregular shapes of the modular capsules become evident. Diverse, harmonius curves are a far cry from the repetitive cubical form of a typical container.

In spite of a certain irregularity of the geometry the building holds a consistent architectural language thanks to he geometrical discipline of the capsule design. Visible seams between panels additionaly fasten the overall composition.

With Industrialised Building System (IBS), the combination of its component systems; i.e: steel framing,panel system and box system made the whole idea of its prefabrication to be realized.
