The compiler and author of these memoirs, Rashid bin AI Shaikh Abdul Rahman AlZayani, is a prominent Bahraini businessman. He was educated at Al-Hedaya Al-Khalifia School in Muharraq, and then at the American University of Beirut, among the first bursary of Bahraini students. Upon his return, he worked as a mathematics teacher at AI Hedaya AI Khalifia School for one year, after which he was transferred to the Government Bureau, where he served for eight years. He then resigned to follow in the footsteps of his forefathers, and became a businessman. Mr Al-Zayani has been a member of many Government Councils, and is currently a member of the Shura ( Consultative ) Council, and a member of the Coordinating Committee for the Proposed Municipal Council in Bahrain. The author has contributed towards the development of Bahrain's economy, and has played a prominent role in the establishment of many commercial and industrial companies, either as a board member or as a Chairman . He was a founding member of the Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait, and was elected its Chairman in 1972, a position that he held for twenty eight years. He also contributed to the establishment of ALUBAF Arab Internationl Bank, and has been its Chairman since 1985. Mr. Rashid Al-Zayani heads the board of trustees of Al-Hekma International Model School, and is also Chairman of Bahrain Specialised Hospital (under formation) . In 1996, Mr. Rashid Al-Zayani published his first Arabic book " Thikriat wa Tareekh ", and this book is a translation in English. In 1998, he published his second book in Arabic "AI Ghous wa Al Tewasha", Pearl fishing and trading. Both books have been well received and are valuable references for the number of historic documents that were published for the first time. The two books also give insights into the hardships people have endured in the past.
