On Friday, May 20, Division 13 West held a social x service event where they watched the movie "Everything, Everywhere All At Once," which focuses on the struggles with identity as an Asian-American, while writing letters to peers in Araullo High School in the Philippines, as a way to share experiences with academics, some words of encouragement, and some fun facts.
In the past month, Linda Marquez High School has had a couple of volunteering events within Huntington Park. We had the HP5K Marathon where we set up tables of snacks and water, passed out supplies to runners, and supported them. We also had an Earth Day Cleanup at Salt Lake Park, which was the same day as DCM. It was a fun event and a great opportunity to meet other schools for new members. In addition, our new board members have taken over the meetings and warming up to be the new presenters. The past members have trained the new members and taught them their responsibilities so they are prepared and can fully take over. This month they prepared a service event in the thought of Mother’s Day, so Key Club members made cards and obtained service hours.
We held elections and have elected a new board for this term. We’re currently working on transitioning from the old board to the new board. We also started a service event committee, which we did not have last year. Our first officer meeting will be next week on Wednesday. With the summer coming up, we’re hoping to host some in-person service events during the break. We’re open to working with other clubs!
This month, we have organized two service events for Teacher’s Appreciation week. We made baskets and gave plants for one event and wrote appreciation cards for the other. We are also organizing a pride month event, along with our school’s "GSA" and "Free 2 Be Me" club, and plan to have an end of the year social event for our members as well. Lastly, we are currently brainstorming ways to fundraise for our club over the summer, as well as host a couple of service events, and probably have a collaboration with Kiwanians or other Key Clubs!
The new boards training was complete and they have been running meetings. For this month we have hosted in service events and have promoted city events.
- In service events: Cinco de Mayo & Mother’s day - City events: Sports Bag’s event & Tree Planting event
We have completed the new board + board training process. Our first meeting took place on April 20th and we have held 3 successful meetings since then. We're working on: member of the month, more service events especially over summer & collabs with neighboring key clubs. Service events held: “pickup hours” [members collected trash in honor of earth day and received hours for their service to our community :) ] & beanbeanbean.com
