PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti _ Haitian electoral authorities say they expect to hold a late December presidential runoff as scheduled even though there’s been deep public suspicion of first-round results here and abroad.

Mosler Georges is executive director of Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council. He tells reporters that “everything is ready’’ for the Dec. 27 runoff between leading presidential candidate Jovenel Moise and No. 2 finisher Jude Celestin.

But Haitian rights groups, independent observers and nearly every political faction except the one led by outgoing President Michel Martelly has alleged rampant fraud. Celestin has dismissed the results as a “ridiculous farce.’’ The council has brushed off the criticism.

Georges also said Monday that overdue final results in legislative elections will be announced Thursday.

Those runoffs are also scheduled for Dec. 27.

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent _ The ruling party in the tiny eastern Caribbean islands of St. Vincent and the Grenadines has won a narrow election victory that gives it a fourth term in office.

Preliminary results show the Unity Labor Party led by Ralph Gonsalves obtained a one-seat majority in the House of Assembly. The ULP holds eight seats compared with seven seats for the opposition New Democratic Party led by economist Arnhim Eustace.

Jamaica activist files rare legal challenge to island laws criminalizing sex between men

Toronto city councillor and Twitter phenomenon Norm Kelly has been named Canada’s Most Valuable Tweeter.

Kelly beat runner-up Justin Bieber by a margin of two-to-one, garnering more than 34,000 votes.

He also beat Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, teen idol Shawn Mendes and Montreal Canadiens player P.K. Subban in the official Twitter Canada poll.

The long-time councillor once served as a Liberal MP under former prime minister Pierre Trudeau _ Justin’s father _ and as deputy mayor under Rob Ford. But now, he’s better known among millenials for his Twitter presence.

Most famously, the 74-year-old involved himself in a feud between hip hop artist Meek Mill and Toronto rapper Drake, when he told Meek Mill that he was no longer welcome in Toronto. That tweet was shared more than 130,000 times.

Kelly now has more than 200,000 followers on Twitter.

Guinea’s president sworn in for 2nd term, rights groups call for strong fight against impunity

CONAKRY, Guinea _ Guinea’s President Alpha Conde has been sworn in for a second five-year term in a ceremony under heavy military and police security.

Conde’s second term begins weeks before the West African country hopes to mark itself free from Ebola transmission. The deadly disease killed more than 2,500 people in Guinea.

Conde on Monday, before 1,500 people including dignitaries and politicians, dedicated his second term to helping women and children, and fighting corruption.

Rights groups have called on Conde to use his second term to intensify the fight against the impunity of security forces who are accused of abuses.

Conde was re-elected in October in only the second democratic presidential contest since Guinea gained independence from France in 1958. Violence marked the run-up to the poll but eventually subsided.

JLP ACCEPTS JULIET HOLNESS AS CANDIDATE

of our youth and those in the ranks of the uncommitted believe that it is a legitimate protest not to vote. Some believe it is their civic duty no to vote. But in doing that, what they do is to condemn Jamaica to a future of no progress, no growth and no change for the better.”

Speaking at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) constituency conference at the Stony Hill Primary School in West Rural St. Andrew on Sunday, Opposition Leader Andrew Holness appealed to young people to be agents of change and participate in the political process by exercising their right to vote. He encouraged young voters to look to the JLP for governance that is accountable, effective and responsive to the needs of the nation’s youth where employment, access to credit for entrepreneurship, skills training and education opportunities are concerned.

Mr. Holness says participating in the political process and taking an active interest in the governance of the country is the attitude the Jamaican youth must adopt.

Mr. Holness said: “Sometimes the promises have not been delivered. Many times you have been disappointed, but our democracy cannot work if you decide not to vote.

Not voting doesn’t change anything. What not voting does is to allow those who are in power [and] not doing anything to remain in power and continue to do nothing.”

Dr. Horace Chang, General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) has reported that Juliet Holness, wife of Andrew Holness, former PM and Opposition Leader. has been tipped to oppose the PNP candidate for the Constituency of East Rural St. Andrew which is a marginal seat.

It is one of 22 seats which will decide the outcome of the next General Election. Juliet Holness is an Accountant/Real Estate Developer. She has two boys and has been described as a "political animal". Her astute qualities, and affable personality makes her an attractive choice.

In a Vision Exclusive, outgoing candidate Senator Alexander Williams broke his silence and

told Vision's SIC that he did not "get the traction he needed, hence resigning". He was leaving the Senate when we caught up with him. "I endorse Juliet Holness and think she will do well". PM said she will be beaten

by PNP candidate.

Marginal Seat Ten times that seat was contested JLP won 4 times. This is a predominantly farming area with strong JLP support. It could swing any way. Damion Crawford, a first time MP was not accepted by his party the PNP to again contest the seat.

JLP GENERAL SECRETARY LODGES FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH POLITICAL OMBUDSMAN AGAINST MP DWAYNE VAZ FOR “LOAD UP DI GUN” COMMENT. people against each other and tears communities apart. We are gravely concerned therefore that an elected representative could even think to say such a thing on an advertised public political platform, let alone say it, and in the wake of such an utterance, there is no immediate public rebuke or dissociation from the PNP with which he is affiliated.”

General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), Dr. Horace Chang, has lodged a formal complaint with the Political Ombudsman following a call by Central Westmoreland Member of Parliament, Dwayne Vaz, during his address at a mass meeting in St. James on Thursday, for supporters of the people’s National Party (PNP) to “load up di gun dem”, which he says is a clear breach of the political code of conduct which could serve to incite political violence.

The JLP General Secretary is also calling on the PNP hierarchy to rein in its members and to discipline Mr. Dwayne Vaz in particular for his reckless and irresponsible utterance.

Dr. Chang said: "I was shocked when I head the comment. I cannot believe a Member of Parliament would instruct his supporters to ‘load up di gun’.”

These are the inflammatory words spoken by Mr. Dwayne Vaz: “Mi hear a

likkle ting guh dung roun’ a Granville tonight. I don’t get di full story suh I don’t really waah seh nutten. But mi hear some Labourite roun’ di corna a laugh an’ a talk seh how PNP office bun dung. But, and according to dem, whole heap more tings lef fi come. But wi waah tell dem seh, caah wi nuh know if a dem dweet or wah. A dem dweet? A dem dweet?

But guess wah, a baby strength dem have. Girl strength alone dem have.

Eh? U see wah gwaan today? Unooh see wah gwaan today? Montego Bay, load up di gun!”

In his letter to the Political Ombudsman, Dr. Chang said: “Our Party Leader, Andrew Holness, is leading by example and has set the tone that will guide our campaign and political activities in general. Violence or conduct that could incite people to violence is not part of the JLP’s political strategy. It is something we must never condone as it pits our

We invite you to take an active interest in the matter as Political Ombudsman as incitement to violence, especially gun violence, cannot be part of political life in modern Jamaica. For MP Vaz to have so conducted himself, it is evident that there is need for a further maturing of our politics and the level of respect for each other that would see us conducting our affairs in a dignified and incident-free manner.”

Dr. Chang called on all political actors to be conscious of their action and words to ensure that the election campaign is peaceful. He says the Opposition Leader will be writing to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to express his concern and restate his call for a joint symbolic walk of communities to promote peace and political maturity.

Former Commissioner Owen Ellington caught wiping his tear filled face after he assisted to carry the casket of his father Boswell Samuel Ellington, Papa, at the Greatful Hill Methodist Church’s graveyard, Glengoffe, Jamaica. W.I., Dec. 9, 2015.

Owen was a model of grief when he walked away …. presumably to hosts his guests at the repast. ….he appeared to be in a reflective mood.

Thought they say “tough guys do not cry”. Curious onlookers were observed fixing their gaze on the former top cop.

Some onlookers, especially women could not hide their grief either. An estimated 2500 were in attendance … the funeral was so well

attended “it spoil” as we say locally.

The top cop was very much involved in all aspects of his father’s funeral ….. he showed real compassion. A baptised Christian, Owen demonstrated genuine Christian love. He (Owen) won the admiration of many., based on comments heard.

Kingston, Jamaica: December 11, 2015 – State Minister in the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment Hon. Damion Crawford has welcomed news that the push to have Kingston designated a Creative City of Music by UNESCO has yielded significant success. This comes on the heels of the official announcement

by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova, that Kingston was among 10 creative music cities which were designated this year.

The designation resulted from a strategic partnership between the Ministry of Tourism and Entertainment through the Entertainment Advisory Board (EAB), the Tourism Enhancement

Fund (TEF) and the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) and other stakeholders. The Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF) has provided over $ 3.4 million to date to support the venture.

The process was initiated by the Ministry’s Entertainment Advisory Board in 2013 and was aimed at ensuring that Kingston becomes a member of the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, which focuses on resuscitating the economic viability of cities through arts, culture and community.

Kendrick the King: Rapper leads Grammys with 11 nominations; Taylor Swift, Weeknd earn 7 nods Alabama Shakes, fronted by singer Brittany Howard, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts with “Sound & Color'' earlier this year, and the album was met with critical acclaim _ much like the band's 2012 debut, “Boys & Girls.'' Their four nominations include best alternative music album as well as best rock performance and song for “Don't Wanna Fight.''

Pharrell and West are also nominated for four awards, including album of the year for producing songs on Lamar's album. West's nominations include best rap song and rap performance for “All Day,'' which featured Paul McCartney and earned the icon two rap nominations.

NEW YORK _ Kendrick Lamar is the king of the Grammys: The rapper is the leading nominee for the 2016 awards with 11, including album of the year for “To Pimp a Butterfly'' and song of the year for ``Alright.''

More than 21,000 submissions were entered for the 83 Grammy categories, with the first round of votes due by Nov. 4 _ the day the Country Music Association Awards aired and Stapleton cleaned house and turned in a memorable performance alongside Justin Timberlake. In addition to album of the year, Stapleton's “Traveller'' is nominated for best country album, country song and country solo performance.

Garth Brooks, who marked a comeback after 13 years last year, was surprisingly shut out of the country categories. Despite success with tours, albums and singles, Luke Bryan was also snubbed and has yet to earn a Grammy nomination.

This year's best country album contenders include Little Big Town's “Pain Killer,'' Kacey Musgraves' “Pageant Material,'' Ashley Monroe's “The Blade'' and “Montevallo'' by singer-songwriter Sam Hunt, who is also nominated for best new artist. Justin Bieber _ who marked a comeback this year with the hits “Sorry'' and “What Do You Mean'' _ is nominated for best dance recording for his other hit, “Where Are U Now'' with Skrillex and Diplo. Both Bieber and Adele's new albums will qualify for Grammy nominations next year since they were released after Sept. 30 _ the final day for eligibility this year.

Other notable nominees include married duo Joey + Rory for best country duo/ group performance (they recently announced Joey is ending her cancer treatment after a recurrence of tumors); actress Amy Poehler with her first Grammy nomination for best spoken word album for “Yes Please''; and actor Seth MacFarlane for best traditional pop vocal album, competing with albums from Bob Dylan, Tony Bennett, Barry Manilow and Josh Groban.

Saxophonist Jimmy Greene, the father of one of the children killed in the Sandy Hook school shooting, earned two nominations for an album inspired by his late daughter Ana Marquez-Greene.

NICKI MINAJ ACCOMPANIES MEEK MILL AT PROBATION HEARING

PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ Nicki Minaj was by Meek Mill's side at his probation hearing yesterday in Philadelphia. Minaj testified for about half an hour and promised to help him stay organized and fulfil his community service requirement.

Prosecutors say Mill violated parole in a 2009 drug and gun case by repeatedly changing his

court-approved travel schedule.

Kelly Rowland goes on quest to discover superstar girl group in upcoming BET series

ATLANTA _ If fans are anticipating a Destiny's Child reunion album, Kelly Rowland says don't expect one anytime soon.

These days, Rowland is focused on recording solo music and filming a documentary series called ”Chasing Destiny,'' which premieres on BET in April. She completed a three-city quest in New York, Atlanta and Los Angeles with veteran choreographer Frank Gatson _ who serves as Beyonce and Rowland's creative director _ auditioning talent in

hopes of finding the next superstar girl group.

“I don't care where they are, where they live, where they're from, their background _ I just want to make sure that I have girls in the group who are not afraid to work, who are excited about a great opportunity, who have goals and think, and breathe, and sleep music,'' Rowland said in an interview last week.

Theater review: Cynthia Erivo and Jennifer Hudson blow the roof off in 'The Color Purple'

NEW YORK _ To those who question why a revival of ``The Color Purple'' is back on Broadway after its predecessor closed there only in 2008, the answer is two words, and it may not be the two words you expect.

She is an absolute marvel in the lead role of Celie, playing her at first with defeated deference, then indignation and then righteous might. Her voice lifts the roof off the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

There are times you forget Jennifer Hudson also is onstage.

The musical adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning tale of female empowerment opened Thursday. It's the John Doyle-directed revival that premiered at London's Menier Chocolate Factory in 2013.
