Over the third weekend of April OFA Key Club participated in two events. On April 22nd, Earth Day, OFA's club, along with their school’s esteemed Earth Club, hosted a cleanup along the Maple City Trail, which stretches from the edge of the river throughout the city and ends along the Oswegatchie River. Officers from both clubs were present with many members attending. Though multi-club collaborations are usually far and few inbetween, our board would like to continue these collaborations in the future.

Meanwhile, on April 23rd a second group of Key Club volunteers participated in the St. Lawrence County’s 3rd annual Trash Dash. This yearly event was over the span of two days and had cleanups in five towns/cities: Gouvernor, Rensselaer Falls, Potsdam, Massena, and finally, the one we attended, Ogdensburg. Key Club members and other volunteers picked up trash along County Route 28A while wearing fluorescent yellow vests. This is the second year our club has participated and we are planning to continue doing so for as long as possible.

A big thank you to all of our club members who volunteered this Earth Day weekend to help save our planet, one cleanup at a time.

Pool Fundraiser!

“Pool fundraiser is an event where people enjoy an 8 ball pool with other key clubs from different schools. A pool fundraiser was held in march, with BHS and THHS. A pool fundraiser was a memorable event for a number of reasons. For me, it was a great chance to enjoy a fun day with friends, strengthen relationships with key club members and I got to know students from other schools. Additionally, participating in pool fundraisers. Additionally, I could form a team and compete with each other, learn about teamwork and leadership, and learn consideration and manners for each other. Therefore, I was able to communicate actively with people in my school, and other schools and it was a memorable experience, since I obtained a valuable lesson through the event.“

Schoolhouse Tutor-a-thon

From April 1 to May 31, each Key Club district will compete for the top spot on the tutoring leaderboard. District points will be tracked live on the Schoolhouse.world website, and the winning district will be recognized online in June and during the international convention in July. Also, tutors from the winning district will receive special rewards, so be sure to participate!

As a Key Club member, you can contribute points to your district’s score by either being a learner or tutor. Each hour of tutoring gains 10 points, while each hour of learning gains five points. For tutors, any subject area is valid for earning points.

If you are interested in Schoolhouse and would like to know more, I have listed a link that leads to an in-depth description of the program created by our International Trustee Ava Stamatakis.
