ABOUT

PROJECT

After high school, I have finished my bachelor of art in mathematics in Thompson River university in Canada. The reason I chose to study in math is because it is pure and neat, even though for each symbols in the equation could probably write a book to define it, but in the end with just one simple equation could means something that is extremely complicated.

And I find that is really similar to architecture in some ways but more of visually and sharable with others, when in math sometimes only very few in the world could understand and appreciate your work. Therefore, I have started my journey in architecture and in love with it.

Creating the skylight represent Sun’s power which is the beginning of all life. People sit among the trees and peaceful, calm space to stare into the skylight to invoke the past they had with the deceased.

For those small units are family columbarium, that image demonstrated where they have green of they ancestors and where the cinerary urn placed.

In the Eastside of the building is Taichung Park, in which contains lots of green. One of the reason to bring the green vertically is to extend the park in a different direction to view the city in differ perspectives.

To vertically plan trees create variety of city’s view, and also bring the people from the park to higher levels of the urban. Experiencing the green also the city’s sight. In compare with the central Taichung there’s only lower building with no green.To do so would fresh up the current circumstance. Since the vertically green, the entire city could’ve enjoied the green.

Each unit is an family’s columbarium, where people put the generations of cinerary urn or under the tree. Each family would have a tree that all of your family will share to be part of tree. Romantically speaking, you all came from the same DNA and in the end of this life form you just go back to be the one together.

In the beginning of the practice, we were asked to observe a city, and find what is invisible facts hiding under people’s daily life. I started to take photo and found that the skyline of the city is quite fascinating, because those line segments transform. For the segments or lines, are straight and 90 degrees, are man-made object such as building, windows, cars and so on. Some lines or segments appear more dramatic, vivid or organic, and that usually are plants or natural-made.

From this point, I claimed grid system is man-made, and the organic lines are natural-made. After a few study-models, I started to insert programs in and tried to create folding space within grid system.

After the first year of studying in architecture, we were asked to build a booth.

There were six of us whiteout any carpentry skills, so we started on the ground and lear nt how to operate variety of machines, design and look into every details to actual build something.We drill holes on concrete, chop woods, cementing to balance the level or drawing details for factory to bend steel of trim. All these experiences have taught us that to design is not just concepts or ideas, mostly it’s how to actual build one.
