Anarchitectwithover13yearsofexperienceinthefieldwithtamayouzexcellence awardMyexperienceincludesworkingonvariousprojectsintheMENAregion.I havedevelopedverygoodexperienceandparticipatedinthedesignand executionofmultipleschemesrangingfromsmalldevelopments,largemixed-use projects,andmasterplansintheIraq.TheProjectsIworkedonvariesfromsimple high-enddesignstohighlycomplexfuturisticbuildings.ThelatestroleIoccupied atalrudainidesignstudio wasasfounderandleaddesigner,whereIusedtolead ateamonconceptcompetitionsanddesigndevelopment.Coveringallstages startingfromdesigningtheinitialconceptsuntilthelateststagesoftheproject coordinationwithallinvolveddisciplinesandclientmeetings.

TheawardwillbeofficiallylaunchedinJanuary2017,celebratingthe90thBirthdayofthegreat architect. ThecityofCairohasfallenshortofmodernizingthearea’sinfrastructure andfindingasustainablesystemfortheproperupkeepofitsarchitecture. Thusthecityneedsanewsystematicapproachtotheinfrastructurethat exceedsthecurrentbasicresponsestotourism,commodification,and populationgrowth.

Thisconceptre-introducesthequestionofbridgingbeyondthephysical. Anintangiblesystemofconnectionsthatbridgesoldandnew,cityand nature,skyandwater,peopleandhabitatswhilebringingtheNilebackto itshomecity.

LifeontheNilebringsupthephilosophicaldiscoursebetweennatureand cultureintheemergenceofhumancivilization,withthecurrent imbalancebetweenurbanismandecology,theprojectadvocatesfor interventionratherthanadditionandbelievesthatthecityisnotinaneed ofanadditionalbridgebetweenthe6thofOctoberandQasrElNil bridges.

TheurbandesignofBasraGulfVillageemphasizesa human-centricapproach,withafocusoncreatingwalkable, greenspacesandpromotingasenseofcommunity.Theproject includesamixofresidential,commercial,andrecreationalspaces, allconnectedbyanetworkofpedestrian-friendlystreetsand publicspaces.

Theresidentialareasoftheprojectfeatureamixofsingle-family homesandmulti-familydwellings,eachdesignedwithafocuson energyefficiencyandsustainablebuildingpractices.Thehomes aresurroundedbylushgreenspaces,includingparksand communitygardens,providingresidentswithaconnectionto nature.

Theprojectaimstoprovideasuitableenvironmentforworkand production,inadditiontoprovidingcomfortableconditionsforthe employeesandworkersthere;becauseoftherequirementsofthe siteandthenatureofthesurroundingdesertenvironment,Ithas beenachievedtocreateagreennaturalenvironmenttoreduce theimpactofdustresultingfromthesurroundingenvironment andreducetemperatures,Inadditiontomakingwaterbodiesthat helpsoftenthewindsandreducethelevelsofhumidityintheair.

Theprojectincludessomeadministrativebuildingsinthenorthern partandsomeresidentialbuildingsforemployeesandworkers distributedaroundthelakeinthemiddle,inadditiontothe restaurantandsomeservicebuildings.Inthesouthernpart,a particularareaforVIPscontainsfourresidentialvillasand recreationalfacilities,aswellassomeprivatestadiumsforfootball basketballandtennis.

Theworkontheprojectwasdividedintotwophases,considering futureexpansion.

Toincreasetheefficiencyofmovementwithinthesite,asystemof pathsforpedestriansandbicycleswasreliedonthatpassthrough allpartsoftheprojectandareequippedwithconditionssuitable forwalkingandsomeparkinglotsforbikes.

Basra,IraqisabustlingcitylocatedinthesouthofIraqandisknown foritshotclimateandabundanceofresources.Whenitcomesto architecture,Basraisknownforitstraditionalstyleofhomesand buildings,butwiththeriseofmoderndesign,thereisnowan opportunitytoexploreamorecontemporaryapproachto architecture.Theminimal200squaremetervilladesigninBasra,Iraq isaperfectexampleofhowmoderndesigncanbeadaptedtothe localclimateandenvironment.

Thevillaisdesignedwithamodernyetminimalisticstyle,maximizing theuseofthelimitedspaceavailable.Thebuildingisdividedintotwo mainparts;thelivingareaandtheservicearea,withthelatterbeing usedforstorageandutilitypurposes.Thelivingareaisopenplan, allowingfornaturallighttopenetratetheentirespace.Tocreatea senseofcomfortandprivacy,thevillaissurroundedbyawalled garden,aswellasashadecanopy.
