President’s Message

2024 - 2025 Season

Welcome to all our members, current and new, to the 202425 bowling season. We again have a busy time ahead, being the main host club for the early October NZ Masters and the World CoC Men’s and Women’s Singles in late November. We are also likely to secure a number of days for the National Men’s and Women’s Singles and Pairs in early January. Add onto this a number of months of a very busy corporate season, the extended Business House Bowls competition, club champs and North Harbour events, and the season is looking pretty full already.

Our recently completed refurbishment of our club house is looking just wonderful and is to be enjoyed by all members, our local community and visiting players.

On behalf of the Browns Bay Bowling Club, wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable season. Take care and keep an eye on your bowling friends.

Business House Bowls

• Designed for the non-bowler (not club bowlers), this mid-week event has grown considerably in recent years. It represents an opportunity to “showcase” both the Club and the game of bowls while at the same time providing a social outlet for teams from the wider community.

• This year the event will run on Wednesday evenings:

– 4 weeks from 30 October or

6 November: 13, 20 November, 4 December (11 December Reserve Day) and in the new year – 8 weeks from 22 January to 5 March (12 March Reserve Day).

• Early expression of interest from teams is particularly welcome.

• Contact Richard Talbot on 09 476 6077.

Visually Impaired Bowlers

The Browns Bay Bowling Club is proud to support the Auckland Blind Lawn Bowler’s Association. The benefits of visually impaired bowlers being involved with Browns Bay and participating in our activities are twofold: For the players,

directors and supporters, it fosters friendship, camaraderie and the opportunity to achieve in both sporting and social events; and for the club as a whole, it provides a real source of inspiration and a rare diversity of membership that few other clubs can boast.

Members who are interested in being involved as a director for a vision impaired bowler or in any other capacity, please contact Ian Glogoski – 021 670 574

Bowlers with Disabilities

The club is very welcoming of any person who would like to play bowls. We have a few disabled bowlers who are members of the club. We are proud they have chosen our club. We also have a relationship with the NZDLBA New Zealand Disabled Lawn Bowls Association (also known as Para Bowls) and will assist these players wherever we can. Ian Glogoski is the responsible Board contact

Practicing on the Grass Green

Before practising on any of the club’s grass greens during the summer, please check which greens are open. There is a blackboard outside the locker room at the south end of the clubrooms. The board will show which greens are in play and what direction to play. Only greens listed are to be used. All the grass greens are closed over the winter for renovation.

• Organised Roll Up days are held on a Wednesday and Saturday afternoons.

• Usually, 2 games of approx 1 hour 10 min, with a 15-minute tea break after the first game (at the discretion of the controller on the day)

• Members may organise their own roll-ups or individual practice any day of the week providing there is a green available.
