As of 1 March 2018, MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 22A came into effect, requiring every ship >5000 GT to comply with IMO Data Collection System (DCS) requirements for CO2 emissions.
Key deadlines:
- 31 December 2018 - Ship-specific SEEMP to be submitted to Flag / RO
- 1 January 2019 - Monitoring to commence
- 31 March 2020 - Annual Emissions Report to be verified by Flag / RO
- 31 May 2020 - Ships to be provided with a valid Statement of Compliance
- Approval requirements: the SEEMP is required to be approved by each vessel’s Flag Administration or a Recognized Organization (RO) acting on each behalf; Annual Emissions Reports will in turn be verified during annual office audits.
