Alpha Gamma Rho is the Fraternity sharing a common bond within a dynamic, global agriculture committed to fostering the highest values and providing each and every brother with superior lifelong personal development and professional success.
Our 2024 Growth Report theme, “MOMENTUM,” resonates deeply with The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho. It encapsulates the spirit of the Fraternity, the unwavering dedication of AGR brothers, and the collective forward motion we’ve achieved through the power of giving.
This past year, the Foundation saw remarkable new heights of generosity and engagement, building MOMENTUM. But MOMENTUM extends beyond financial contributions; it’s about giving your time, talent and passion to Make Better Men who will shape the future of Alpha Gamma Rho, further propelling us forward.
Highlights of accomplishments and praise of brotherhood, showcasing our advancement, are displayed throughout the 2024 Growth Report.
We are profoundly grateful for everything you give. You are a truly cherished donor. We could not accomplish all we do without your generosity and participation, which drives our MOMENTUM. We rely heavily on donor support, including collegiates, alumni and family members.
As an industry-leading Educational Foundation, we have the personnel, policies, partnerships and framework in place to support high levels of success today and in the future, maintaining our steady MOMENTUM. The Fraternity is more relevant than ever, as we continue to provide social and professional development, leading to lifelong success, and sustaining our progress.
Since 2019, my focus as Chief Development Officer has been to build MOMENTUM within The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho’s culture of philanthropy. Over the past five years, we’ve gained significant traction. With your continued support, I’m confident we can amplify this MOMENTUM and achieve even greater growth in 2025. I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to serve you and deeply appreciate your contributions in 2024.
Together, we’ve built unstoppable MOMENTUM. Your continued support will ensure this energy propels Alpha Gamma Rho to even greater heights.
Sincerely,
Carol Johnson, Ed.D. Chief Development Officer

The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho is a nonprofit corporation funded by voluntary contributions and investment income. The business purpose of the Educational Foundation is to receive and invest contributed property, and to distribute such property to qualifying organizations or persons for charitable, educational purposes. These charitable and educational purposes include the making of distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 (or the corresponding provisions of any future U.S. Internal Revenue Law). Organized in 1965, The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho operates as a tax-exempt, nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation and public charity under the laws of the State of Illinois. The employer identification number is 36-6158409.
Inputs to the Foundation include cash and online donations, planned gifts, capital campaign dollars and more.
Holdings include investments managed by skilled members of the Foundation.
The Foundation abides by the Board of Directors and the ByLaws.
Scholarships, awards, grants and more that support the Foundation’s Mission are awarded annually.
Regardless of the amount, the Educational Foundation always accepts donations in the forms of cash, check, credit card or money order. You can mail checks or money orders to the AGR Educational Foundation: 401 W Frontier Ln, Suite 200, Olathe, KS 66061. Credit card donations are accepted online at alphagammarho.org/donate or use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code below.

Many companies will match donations made by their employees to nonprofit, tax exempt foundations. Contact your employer to find out if they have a gift matching program!
The Educational Foundation is happy to work with any prospective donor interested in a gift of real estate. The Educational Foundation will review gifts of real estate before acceptance
Like readily marketable securities, stocks are accepted by the Educational Foundation. Making a gift of stock can have tax benefits — capital gain taxes can be avoided, and you may deduct the full fair market value of the gift. After consultation, nonpublicly traded securities may also be accepted.
These are a great way for brothers who are in production agriculture to support the Educational Foundation. Make a gift of grain, other crops or livestock as a more convenient way to give back. Although the process is simple, the impact is significant, and it may be a tax-advantage opportunity worth your consideration.

Named Endowments are a great way to support the causes you care most about. And they last in perpetuity! Your Educational Foundation offers several ways for you to use endowment giving.
You can establish endowments that can only be used to support educational and leadership development activities in a specific chapter, or you can do the same opening up the grants to a national competition or to support Fraternity-wide initiatives. Gifts to such endowment funds are tax deductible to the donor to the extent allowable by the tax laws. As a donor you can be assured that the gift will be professionally received, managed, and spent.
Your Foundation has adopted the Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (UPMIFA) as the governing basis for endowment fund management. UPMIFA gives foundations the operational guidelines that help ensure the fund is used for its stated purpose and survives in perpetuity, even after the donor’s death.
The minimum required to establish such a fund at AGR is $25,000. However, a donor or donors may take up to five years to reach that total. Until the $25,000 is reached, the fund benefits from any investment earnings. Any disbursements, of course, lower the principal and, while not prohibited, are discouraged.
A “Gifting Fee” of 2% is deducted from such gifts in the calendar quarter they are received. These funds are used to support Foundation operations including staffing, annual audits, IRS reporting and recordkeeping.
To help minimize the impact of investment market fluctuations, the Foundation uses the 12-quarter moving average of the market value of its endowments to both charge a 1% annual “administrative fee,” .25% per quarter based on the current fiscal year-to-date fund balance and create an annual 4% “spendable” allocation.
A named endowment must be in existence for four-calendar quarters before “spendable” funds are allocated. From that point on and until the 12-quarter moving average is in place, the Foundation uses the available quarters for both the fee and “spendable.” calculations.
“Spendable” funds that are not used by the fund’s governing body such as a Chapter Alumni Committee or the National Foundation Board remain in the investment pool receiving any investment earnings and are subject to the 1% annual administrative fee.
The governing body of each endowed fund receives monthly contribution reports (if applicable) and quarterly fund reports on the 30th day of the month following the close of the quarter (January-March report will be distributed April 30th and so forth) from the Foundation staff. The reports will show the current market value, fees deducted, contribution income, distributions (uses of the funds), investment earnings allocated and funds available for “spending.” In addition, the staff responds to telephone or email communications as they are received.
Donor-Designated Endowment Funds can include achievement awards for chapters who reach success in academic, leadership, citizenship and educational activities. Grants can be used to cover expenses to attend Top Leaders Institute in addition to expenses involved with other events sponsored by Alpha Gamma Rho. Donor-Designated Endowment Funds can also be used to purchase technology upgrades for chapter facility educational space and scholarships for students.
Permanent or endowed funds are internally managed and locally directed. They serve a perpetual purpose such as providing scholarships for a chapter, funding a specific program customized to a chapter’s unique needs, or providing travel funds for leadership training.
Fund training tools and programs focus on personal growth, responsibility and leadership of members. Examples of these programs are AGRconnect or the Sayre Fund.
These fees cover activities and services including:
501(c)(3) IRS tax-exempt status charitable organization registration
Balancing income/risk portfolio which is professionally managed by the Foundation Investment Committee
Board governance and oversight
Charitable state solicitation registrations
Chapter membership database
Staffing to provide database support and gift stewardship (receipting, pledge reminders, etc)

Fundraising advice, insight and expertise

Brother William ‘Bill’ Sayre understood that the AGR brotherhood has an important lifelong impact on Alpha Gamma Rho brothers. The Sayre Fund was established when Brother Sayre provided gifts to the Educational Foundation, specifically to promote inter-chapter relations and cooperation. Simply put, the vision of Brother Sayre was to give chapters the opportunity to come together through social, educational and leadership activities, designed to further sow the seeds of fraternalism.
Chapters can submit a Sayre Fund proposal through the AGR website under the Foundation section. All proposals are due annually on Oct. 1. Events supported by the Sayre Fund have included the Annual AGR Fall Shootout, AGR National BBQ Competition, the Texas AGR Retreat, the Fraternity’s involvement with National FFA Convention and many other worthwhile events.
Cultivating a greater strength of brotherhood is of high importance as uncertainty still looms. Brothers, both alumni and collegiate, should look for ways to engage with others across the community and the country. With a greater understanding of the technology at our fingertips, now is the best time to take advantage of what the Sayre Fund has to offer! Apply today, connect with brothers tomorrow.
1. Complete the Sayre Fund Proposal on the AGR website under the Foundation tab: alphagammarho.org/sayre-project-proposal
2. Submit your application for the next school year before October 1.
We are very grateful to our brothers and friends who have pledged more than $21.5 million to the Local Chapter Excellence campaign. Their generosity demonstrates the importance of this campaign in ensuring our local Alpha Gamma Rho chapters continue to thrive and succeed. The development, launch and maintenance of the Top Leaders Institute were all supported by these donors through this campaign initiative.
If an error has been made in recording your gift, or your name has been mistakenly omitted or listed improperly, we sincerely apologize. Please advise Chief Development Officer Carol Johnson at carol@alphagammarho.org so that we may make a correction. Thank you for your support!

Dear Brothers and Friends of the Educational Foundation, As Chair of the Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho, I’m honored to reflect on what has been one of the most successful and inspiring years in recent memory. With unprecedented MOMENTUM and shared purpose, we’ve seen firsthand the powerful impact your generosity makes in shaping the future of our brotherhood. This past year has been marked by recordsetting growth, impactful programming and a renewed energy that is fueling our mission like never before.
Your continued support has directly influenced the lives of thousands of young men across the country. Through your contributions, we’ve been able to invest in leadership development, academic excellence, and the lifelong values of brotherhood rooted in our agricultural heritage. These young men are not only bettering themselves — they are stepping up as leaders on campus, in their communities, and eventually in industries that feed and fuel the world. None of this would be possible without your belief in our mission.
One of the key focuses this year has been deepening our partnership with local chapters. The Foundation has committed significant resources to enhance local chapter programming and elevate the leadership training we offer. Through world-class experiences like the Top Leaders Institute and the broader programming initiatives, we are equipping young brothers with tools for success — professionally, personally and fraternally. These investments are ensuring that each AGR chapter is a thriving hub for growth and leadership.
We haven’t seen this kind of momentum in decades — and we are just getting started. With your help, the Educational Foundation is not only fulfilling but amplifying the Fraternal Purpose of Making Better Men. Together, we are creating leaders, building networks and leaving a legacy that will echo for generations to come. Thank you for your generosity, your faith in our mission, and your commitment to our shared future.
Fraternally,
Glenn Stith Chair, Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho
DE JONG Director, Chi
Who wants an edge in life? Who wants to learn the skills it takes to succeed in life? We all do! This is the purpose of Alpha Gamma Rho, Making Better Men.
Learning the cardinal virtues of, prudence, justice, fortitude and temperance while working with your brothers to achieve goals will give you that edge.
The dream of world-class leadership training is now a reality. Top Leaders Institute is setting the national standard in leadership development. The program will give all participants a leg up as they enter the workforce and become the next generation of leaders in their communities.
We need everyone’s continued financial support to continue this work. The Education Foundation is the gas tank that makes this happen! Know that your support to the Loyalty Fund is going straight to support this worldclass training. I thank all who annually support AGR, but we need more help to sustain the effort that is now in its fourth year. It’s time for you to give back to the organization that gave you the edge.
Donald De Jong, Board Member, Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho
The Foundation may provide grants to a House Corporation/Alumni Associations for expenses incurred by the House Corporation/Alumni Associations that support exclusively educational areas and furnishings/ equipment in the chapter house as long as certain conditions and IRS requirements are met. This is a stepby-step overview of the Foundation’s process for those Grants.
** If the House Corporation/Alumni Association does not have a fund established with the Foundation, then the House Corporation/Alumni Association will need to work with the Foundation to establish a housing fund. **
The Chapter Assistance Program is offered by The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho to assist alumni corporations in providing educational facilities in major construction or renovation projects for chapters with short-term funds.
The Heritage Club honors brothers who leave a planned gift of $10,000 or more through specific gifts or bequests. Fund advisory reports are provided quarterly to update brothers and friends of Alpha Gamma Rho on the existence, maintance and performance of endowments and other funds internally managed by The Educational Foundation of Alpha Gamma Rho.
Below is a list of current endowments, which are provided in an effort to maintain transparency. These funds are intended to continue in perpetuity, with the spendable balance allocated and dispersed from the specified annual amount stated in the fund agreement. Please note that fund names may vary and may be truncated for accommodation in accounting reports.
Below is a list of all other funds. These funds differ slightly from endowment funds due to how the spendable balance is allocated based upon the intent of the donor. These funds may or may not be intended to continue in perpetuity, which dictates whether there is a balance or the availability of the full balance for distribution.
Endowment refers to funds that continue in perpetuity, meaning the gifts are invested and only the allocated spendable amount can be spent.
Other Funds include Non-Endowment or “Temporarily Restricted” Funds, which refers to funds where there may or mat not be restrictions placed on the allocated amount of spendable funds.
* Contributions to this fund are still being solicited. The extent to which these contributions may eventually be endowed will be based on donor-specific intent and/or Board directive.
The Educational Foundation financials are provided in an effort to maintain transparency and are managed by an external accounting firm, Fortiviti, under regular review by the Educational Foundation Treasurer, Ron Brohammer. It is also audited on an annual basis. The Educational Foundation financials are for the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years.
AGR’s Investment Management Process includes the Investment Committee (which implements the policy approved by the Board and makes investment decisions). The Investment Committee meets at least four times a year. They retain professional investment management expertise which they use to review performance, evaluate investment managers and evaluate alternative investment approaches.
As a nonprofit organization the Educational Foundation’s balance sheet is known as the Statement of Financial Position, and the income statement is known as a Statement of Activities
Note - Prior year balances may differ slightly due to audit adjustments finalized after this report was published.

Investment Committee
As you have read, 2024 was a particularly eventful year for our undergraduate members and their local chapters. Generous donors are stepping up doing their part to make more and better leadership development and personal growth experiences available for AGR members and their chapter-level support teams. Some of those gifts are unrestricted, giving the Foundation Board the opportunity to channel resources to specific projects. Others are for restricted purposes like AGRConnect or Local Chapter Excellence. Still others, like scholarship funds, are often both restricted and endowed meaning the donor intends for them to exist in perpetuity supporting a specific purpose. With few exceptions, your gifts to the AGR Foundation are then invested in a diversified portfolio with a long-term goal of producing competitive and consistent payouts without taking undue market risk. That, in a nutshell, is the job of the Foundation Investment Committee.
Committee decisions are made more difficult by the fact that the investment environment is everchanging. Over the past several years, for example, we have experienced a global pandemic, increased geopolitical tensions, felt an uptick in global inflation and dealt with changes in government policy to combat rising prices. More recently, new questions about the U.S. economy are being raised by concerns about the availability of service and agricultural labor, changing world trade flows and even the anticipated changes to government “safety nets.” So far, such concerns have not triggered deep and sustained low-investment returns. Since the 2008 Financial Crisis, the compound annual return from investments in global equities has been nearly 10%. The five-year return from global equities since 2020 has been 15% per year. This rate of return may well be unsustainable as many now predict. But, as the past two years have proven, knowing just when, or if, such a correction will occur cannot be known by anyone. All we can do is make information-based, prudent judgments relying on the advice we receive from a professional Investment Advisor.
Staying disciplined and diversified has paid off. The Foundation investment pool which now consists mostly of restricted and endowed funds totaled $14.4 million on Dec. 31, 2024. After adjusting for deposits and withdrawals, the 2024 investment return was 14%. That’s slightly better than a simple portfolio with 70% Global Equities and 30% Fixed Income. The 10-year return for the investment portfolio was a healthy 7.5% allowing the Foundation Board to authorize a 4% payout for endowed funds for the past several years even as annual fluctuations in returns are experienced. In addition to the investment portfolio, the Foundation has another $1.75 million in an interest-bearing money market fund. Mostly, those funds are restricted for use in maintaining and/or improving educational spaces in Chapter Housing. When your Chapter needs those funds, they will be available even if the broader investment markets are depressed.
As this Growth Report makes clear, AGR is building Momentum that is taking us into an exciting future. Your contributions to the Educational Foundation are both needed and very much appreciated.

You have heard the old saying, “Win the battle, but lose the war.” The timeframe of one generation of AGR collegiate brothers ranges from two to four years in the chapter life cycle. It is very important that we help meet their needs during that time. This includes leadership education, scholarships, networking and a range of other benefits. That is the short game: wash, rinse, repeat. But what is the glue that holds it together from generation to generation – Local Alumni!!! They are the MOMENTUM that wins the day, months, and many years of a chapter.
College enrollment is declining. Male enrollment is also declining, and some colleges are not supporting agricultural majors, yet our membership numbers remain stable and are on the upswing. It is the programs that you sponsor, the dollars you give toward scholarships, and the time you spend with our men that make the difference. We are genuinely thankful and appreciative of your generosity, which helps us maintain this MOMENTUM.
Every donation counts. It can be the difference between whether a collegiate brother attends college or not. Donations to our annual Loyalty Fund count. It enables the Educational Foundation to host critical leadership programming that helps our brothers operate as a cohesive unit and achieve their full potential. Donations to our Local Chapter Excellence and the Nationwide Top Leaders Institute are appreciated. Bringing together a new set of chapter officers, key influencers such as Advisers, House Mothers/Directors, and alumni leadership to plan a path forward for both the individual brother and the chapter. It is building life skills that can help our brothers grow in their chapter, college, and careers.
As write this, the annual NCAA March Madness is upon us. I am sure you have your brackets filled out. Which Cinderella team will be the bracket-buster and send a blue-chip team home? I think of teams like Butler or Loyola of Chicago making the Final Four and everyone was rooting for the underdog. Then, the Championship team is crowned, and the music of “One Shining Moment” is played, accompanied by video clips of the tournament teams. This past year was the year for our AGR donors to shine. They lift up our chapter brothers to do more and challenge feats that they could only dream of. You are the biggest cheerleaders and brightest coaches, helping our brothers go Pro in the game of life. Thank you! Thank you! I can’t wait for what you will do next year to come.
Let’s keep the MOMENTUM going to reach the top!
