get a sense of the school’s culture. Learn about what programs they offer their students and families. What are the school’s demographics and look into their scores to see where their goals and focus may be and how you can support those goals

2 It is ok to not have an answer for everything! The interview team wants to see that you are willing to learn and grow with them. They do not expect you to be an expert in their curricular resources. They do expect you to admit you may not have the experience, but you have the foundational skills and instructional techniques to supportstudentlearning

3 What can you offer the school community? Think about your strengths and talents. What makes you stand out as an applicant and what can you bring to the school to make their school better? Interviews are partly a sales pitch on why YOU arethebestcandidate.

4 Interview the school! Not every school is a good fit Make sure you are prepared to ask questions to learn about the school’s culture and climate By asking simple questions to the team, you’ll be able to tell what makes that school andthestaffspecial.

Remember you caught their eye on paper to be invited to meet them. That is a huge first step you have already conquered Be confident and know there is a classroomofstudentswhowillbeluckytohaveyouastheirteacher!

Ball State Alpha Delta Kappa Collegiate Club recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to the Indiana State Convention, where bonds were strengthened, knowledge was deepened, and inspiration was ignited. Seven club members made the three-hour journey to Indiana State University to spend the day with AΔK sisters from around the state. The club presented a breakout session about the importance of brain breaks and demonstrated several different kinds of brain breaks that could be used within and outside of the classroom.

Indiana CONNECTION CONTINUED from Page 2

Six of the students were attending their second state convention and were eager to return. One member was recognized as being a first timer. Ava Widolff and Bridget Alexander received recognition as having been recognized with the Future Educator Scholarships from International. This dynamic group had a lot to celebrate at this year-ending event!

Ava, reflecting on her experience, emphasized the tight-knit community within ADK, citing the invaluable connections made across the state. Emily Hicks echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of building relationships and gaining deeper insights into the organization.

For club president Bella Watts, the convention was a blend of professional growth and personal connection, with her most memorable moments being the club’s presentation and meeting sisters from chapters statewide. With only days to go before her graduation, Bella is looking forward to joining an Alpha Delta Kappa chapter of her own soon and has a goal of becoming a golden sister in the future.

Their shared sentiment? A resounding endorsement of the convention's benefits – from networking opportunities to personal and professional development. It's clear that the spirit of ADK is alive and thriving, leaving these future educators empowered and energized!

1923: Glassboro, NJ: The State of NJ opens the Normal School in a small, picturesque town in south Jersey for the purpose of training teachers in a two-year program.

In 1937 the name became New Jersey State Teachers College at Glassboro and became a four-year program. 1958 brought another name change: Glassboro State College, and many new programs, and in 1992, another change to Rowan University and even more programs. The centennial celebration of the institution has been celebrated all year!

In December 2023 the Rowan University ADK Collegiate Club was chartered. The club was one of several involved with the planning of Sips & Snacks: Honoring 100 Years of Educators, held on March 4, 2024, in the Chamberlain Student Center ballroom. Featuring a conversational panel of Glassboro State/Rowan University graduates that have served NJ communities as educators, faculty, students and guests enjoyed sips and light snacks as they celebrated educators and the field of education. Club Advisor, Dr. Cori Brown served as panel facilitator, and NJ Phi Chapter sister Debra Quinn served on the panel. The panel shared experiences in education and talked about the challenges facing a teacher today. Rowan University AΔKCC is sponsored by Deborah Ingersoll, NJ Chi chapter and Diane Mazzei, NJ Phi chapter, both graduates of Glassboro State College.

From its humble beginnings as Glassboro Normal School with 236 students to the current Rowan University, offering bachelor’s through doctoral programs to more than 22,000 students across four campuses, the school is now a Carnegie-classified national doctoral research institution dedicated to excellence in undergraduate education. And it all started with teachers.
