What elements make the environment special to you? How is it different from other groups? At the Alohas, we believe flourishing communities don’t happen by accident. they require planning, tweaking, re-evaluating, innovating, and lots of conversation—sometimes light and fun, sometimes really hard. Strong communities help us feel safe, connected to others, able to be our true selves. There’s a sense of camaraderie and respect. Trust is high; missteps and failures are opportunities to learn. At our summer camps and in each of our programs, we aim to help everyone
feel a sense of belonging. More than acceptance and open-mindedness, for us this means everyone is treated as a full member of our community and feels valued and celebrated for who they are and what they bring. We also want to be accountable to one another to ensure everyone can thrive. Here are a few recent examples of ways we are building community at the Alohas: (Continued on page 3)
Campers enjoy time on Winships, a hill adjacent to the Aloha campus that offers a beautiful view of Lake Morey. It’s a favorite nearby spot for cookouts and overnights.
