akulp@perfprint.ca

The fate of Gerry Huddleston’s case now rests with Justice Peter Wright. After four full days of testimony, the Crown and defence presented their final summations Oct. 22 at the Ontario

Court of Justice in Perth. Wright will present his ruling on the case on Tuesday, Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Smiths Falls court. Former Almonte General Hospital-Fairview Manor (AGH-FVM) Foundation executive director Huddleston is charged with theft of $4,000

from the hospital foundation as well as knowingly attempting to pass off a forged deposit record as though it were genuine to Theresa Keil of the Almonte branch of the Bank of Montreal (BMO). The funds were proceeds from the Almonte Shoppers Drug Mart’s Air Canada gift card raffle, which the retail outlet organized as part of a commitment as title sponsor

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour Sunday morning, at 2 a.m. as Daylight Savings Time comes to an end. Sunrise and sunset will be about one hour earlier on Nov. 1, 2015 than the day before. There will be more light in the morning. Local fire departments also recommend changing your batteries in smoke alarms and CO2 detectors.

Church withdraws OMB appeal Tara Gesner

tgesner@perfprint.ca

St. James Anglican Church has dropped its Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) appeal against the Town of Carleton Place, and is now considering knocking down the subject property at 224 Edmund St. and constructing an apartment building. Father David Andrew told the Canadian Gazette on Oct. 23, the church withdrew its OMB petition to

overturn the town’s denial of its Class 3 development permit for the redevelopment of Elliot Hall as an artisan chocolate shop and café. “Now instead of a little chocolate shop with two or three cars from time to time there could end up being an apartment building,” Andrew said. He added the church might also acquire other properties in the area. See OMB page A/CP12
